ORIGINAL: slvemike4u Well I am not so sure it is a matter of perception.Goddess Dusty Gold there are right now at least 3 other threads that if read from start to current you can find numerous post's where the prospect of assassination is discussed rather lightly....one poster suggested recalling the newly elected President 70 some odd days before he takes the oath of office. I sincerely want to thank you for being honest enough to bring this up. I have not addressed this issue at all. But I think I will now. It did not occur to Me that this might be the topic which is causing such concern. First of all, the Impeach Him comment... I took that as a joke. So I am thinking that there is some over-sensitivity happening. I thought so all along as I am reading (and I am reading!) but this nails it. So you think that is is okay, though, to be referring to John MCain as McCapitalist in another thread I read? I happens on both sides ya know! I challenge you to go back and look at how often Obama was never mentioned in a late night comedy monlogue and how often John McCain was. It amazed Me. Although why I was amazed I have no idea. As to the assassination possibility...well, it is always a possibilty, regardless of who is is in that chair, and perhaps more so with this PE. However, I prefer to think that although there is a possibility that this could happen due to race, I think it is a stronger possibility that this could happen due to the political stances of the man. Whether foreign or domestic, the danger is there. There is no point in hiding heads in the sand and pretending that there is no evil in this world. That is much of the problem in the UsofA. We refuse to look evil in the face and deal with it from a position of strength. I do not think it has been dealt with lightly either. I think it has been stated as a matter of sad fact. Poor taste or not, it is a concern. I have family who are big Obama supporters. They voted for him and they are concerned. They brought it up to Me even before the election. The difference is that they believe it could only happen due to race. That is only because they believe in his mantra of hope and change and the path he hopes to take to achieve that. I take a larger and much different view of potential consequences and what we need to do to fix this country. I did not vote for the PE. I did not vote for McCain. For Me, those candidates both represented maintaining the status quo and continuing down a path that I consider destructive to the very principles upon which this country was founded. I wrote in the name of Ron Paul. And it wasn't even counted in My state. That is how strongly I felt about what I needed to do to follow My conscience. So there ya go! Edited to add: I was around (dating Myself, I know) although very young, when Kennedy was assassinated. I do not ever remember hearing that he was assassinated because he was Catholic. I do not recall anyone being afraid that he might be assassinated because he was Catholic. Mayhap I do not have all the memories I should. I was raised Catholic and it was a big deal at that time. During the election itself, it was a major deal since there were people all over who were sure that the country would be ruined by Rome. I am willing to bet it would still be a big deal, and Mitt Romney had his religion called in question also. Race is not the only area of prejudice in this country.
