LaTigresse -> RE: What I predicted last month has started, no end in sight. (11/10/2008 9:06:19 AM)

I think, at least I would hope, that MzMia would know me well enough through my posting history to know that I wasn't chastising or swatting anyone's hand. Least of all her's.

IF you would bother to try and be less sensitive you might read into my post that, while I think it is wonderful a person of obvious mixed race has been elected to the highest office in the land, AND while I voted for him.........regardless of gender or race....... it will be the day that neither will matter that I will be happiest with.

No racisim at all. zero zip nada

What I find most interesting is that, you immediately come in to hand swat and chastise, instead of trying to have a real dialogue with her about it.

Exactly how does one have "dialogue" on a generalized, non-specific, and highly patronizing accusation?

Is every disagreement regarding the merits of the victor (or copious lack thereof) in this recent election automatically tinged with the specter of race?

If this is so, how does the electoral outcome herald a "new day" on race relations? (or anything else, for that matter)

I will give you an example:

On the thread I started about what Obama's victory means to me, I shared a personal moment and a memory then ended it on an optimistic note about the future. Poster #5 was the first person to interject race into the discussion in the negative.

Then it just carried on and skewed a post about moving forward from the past into a battle on what it means to be biracial, skin color and all other forms of ridiculousness that had nothing to do with what I originally posted.

As for this post, there could've been a dialogue, it's not what you say but how you say it. I can also fall into the trap of being too passionate in expressing my views which could come across as shrill at times. However, when we break it all down, does how she present her concerns make them less valid?

Some of you may not like Obama because he is liberal in his views or ascribe to a different ideology than you, but this particular issue, I feel is very valid in moving the country forward. It's a black eye, but whenever it comes up, once side wants to deny, leaving the otherside ... yes bitter, defeated and frustrated. So we go nowhere, we just keep banging our head against the wall.

Like I said, I'd rather have a real honest discussion about it, where people share their views and we attempt to find some sort of understanding or commonground.

I feel that if we do that and people cannot find a commonground ... then something else is wrong and it rests with the individuals.

If you are referring to me, I do believe I said, some not all. I always try to use that word because to say all is a generalization. Not everyone on this thread was doing that. If that were the case, I'd be included in those I was commenting on in my post.

I did, however, put a concern troll disclaimer above my post. So that may immediately  tip one off to what's coming.

No sensitivity, just expressing a view and like I said, MzMia does not need me to defend her, I just wanted to say my peace.

No problemo. Your post just showed up as a reply to mine. I wanted to be certain my original post wasn't misunderstood.

Mia, it's a bunch of crap.
President- Elect Obama will be America's President for the next four years and people should get behind him!
We had our election, The People decided and that's that.
Now let's get on with it.
I'd much rather be reading what people want to see him do in the next four years then whether he's "half black", "half white" or whatever.
It's about *our country*!
As I said in another thread I hope President Obama is the best President this country has ever had! If McCain were elected I'd be hoping the same thing!
It's not about his "race" it's about what he's going to do for our country.

sayeth the one that wants Fifty Cent to be a cabinet member?[8|][8|][8|][8|][8|]

Yes, and I'd like to see "The Reverand" Al Sharpton in the Obama Administration too!
Secretary of Defense maybe?
You know he wouldn't be shy about pushing any buttons on al qeada's ass!

What I predicted last month has started on CollarMe.
I am not surprised at all the racist and thinly veiled racist attacks.

I am a bit surprised they have started with a vengance, 5 days
after the election.
I have never seen this level of vitriol and hatred for a President
that has not even been inaugurated. {and believe me I was pissed
when Bush won in 2000!}.

This will certainly continue, it will not stop and I fully expect it too last
for years.
I adore President elect-Obama, CollarMe and many here.
I do not plan on leaving, but ignoring posts, posters and using the block
feature is my new friend.
.....I have to really say, I am sadly not surprised at all.

Of course, because everyone who has a problem or concern with Obama's tax plan, his multiple contradictory promises, the vagueness regarding what policies will be implemented given that he promised everything to everyone, our lack of history or knowledge about the guy, his lack of experience, and his cold, cool, and overly coached behavior that's just a little too perfect is a stupid ignorant racist.

Just like the guys who hung the Barrack Obama dolls weren't making a political message in accordance with a political tradition, but being stupid ignornant racists!

I must be reading the wrong posts.

But if I am not, maybe there will be a lot less racial hatred on Collarme.com if everyone stops assuming that anyone who has something bad to say is being racist.

(Sorry, not seeing an advanced level of hatred and virolity for a black candidate. I am just see normal politics on a medium that allows people to freely express their opinions without consequences)

Edited to Add : Sorry, MzMia, but to be frankly honest, the biggest problem on these boards I have seen is...well....you. Your general inability to read posts without distorting what people are saying into some kind of racial attack when there is none and your regular thought policing of turning anyone who dares to say something derogatory about Obama into being racist combined with your own efforts to turn the election into "electing a black candidate" as opposed to "electing the best candidate" is what's turning this into a war between whites and blacks instead of just political discussion.

Viable political discussion and pointing out thing we are or others may be uncomfortable with (Such as appointing pro Israel, War Hawk Rohm Emmanuel as COS) is hardly vitriol. The biggest mistake we can make as a nation is mandating that any criticism of President Elect Obama is bigotry, racism. vitriol and hate.

Like Emmanuel...

I LOVE that Emmanuel is pro Israel and that it is important to him that The United States keeps a free and democratic Iraq. I like that he is Hawkish on the Middle East and wants peace there on Israel's and The United States' terms.

But his appointment can't make the anti-war and anti-Israel factions that voted in droves for The President Elect.

Ditto for the anti Wall Street'ers (who also voted for Obama in droves) because Emmanuel was known as The Congressman from Wall Street.

Look,,, I think Obama can stand the heat. His Speech and Press Conference clearly showed he was a leader, in charge and will be calling the shots.

His vast nation of Internet protectors would be better served if they stopped worrying about racists and veiled racists comments solely because they dare to criticize the man or even less... point out to his blathering sycophants that maybe he's not quite the politician they thought he was. Obama is going to really piss off a lot of his supporters (George W. Bush routinely pissed me off.). It's the price of having to be President to all the people.

Well that just sounded way too rational and boring.
How dare you not continue the drama.  [:D]

lol... thanks A

The following is a concern troll post (read at your own risk):

MzMia does not need defending, but I'm going to step in. This, post was started because this is the way she feels, just as everyone else has commented on various things around this forum and expressed their opinions and frustrations.

What I find most interesting is that, you immediately come in to hand swat and chastise, instead of trying to have a real dialogue with her about it. This is not just about CM, it's the prevalent attitude that some in our society have no right to voice their concerns, if others don't believe there's a concern to be addressed.

I'm not trying to be the race police on CM, I never came here for that. I never introduced myself as The Black Observer. However, give myself and MzMia the freedom, as you have, to take in and express the pride not only for our country but the evolution of our forefather's struggle in this country - with the ascension of President elect Obama. With the history and even current state of America, why would anyone deny that to their fellow citizens?

Racism still exists, yes, but instead of being veiled in white pointy hoods, it's locked away behind the doors of corporate America and used to divide and conquer the masses. Keep the masses ignorant in the living room, while they sneak all the valuables out the backdoor.

If you are not making the racist comments she was alluding to, then why do you care if she feels the way she feels? She never specifically called anyone out in her original post. I find there is a lot of insecurity in the fact that some of you keep coming back to this thread to swat MzMia on the hand. It's a very paternalistic attitude ... now what does that remind me of?

Hmm.

I said before the election that, now would be the perfect time to work congruently through our issues with race in an open fashion, along side our economic, educational, energy and safety plans for the future. When will that talk be had, this is CollarMe, but we got to start somewhere. All it takes is one person to get the ball rolling. However us sniping back and forth about this is going nowhere.

Thanks darling.
I have noticed that even if/when I try to attempt to explain,
it often does little good.
I have been posting on OffTopics for over a year, and many posts
are actually "comments" on how that particular poster is thinking or feeling.
A lot of my posts are just that, my thoughts.
I would even guess that about 90% of the posters are posting "their thoughts".
We all are allowed to post "our thoughts" and "our opinions" until the moderators
feel we have crossed "the line".

I may not agree or like many of the posters or a lot of what people may write online,
but if the moderators allow them to post, then they have the right to post.
Freedom of speech, means just that "freedom of speech".
We have the right to say what we want {within the guidelines}, we have the right
to agree or disagree {within the guidelines} and we have the right not to read what
we find offensive, etc.

We used to joke about blocking people a lot, but the feature is there and maybe some should use it.
I am sitting here laughing about how funny it would be, if I felt the need to comment on all
the posts and posters I did not agree with on a daily basis.
Life is just too short, people need to do what they need to do.
Then move on.

Thank you very much theobserver.
There is certainly a lot to observe online.

I could not agree with you more in that there are people out there who continue to want to be in the role of "victim" even after a victory.  I voted for McCain not because he is white, and certainly not because I agree with all of his political decisions.  I voted for him because I disagree totally with Obama and his radical leftist views.  When liberals can't answer the questions of experience, leftist philosophy, questions on his judgement, it is soo much easier to just call people who disagree racist.  The good news is that Obama IS going to be our President and I hope he succeeds because the country needs bi-partisan leadership more than at any time since WW2.  We are all more the loser if he fails and our concerns of the man are born out.

STOP IT!!!!

Chill the freak out!!!

Any black person that has the stupidity to say (any of the above) is wasting their breath.

Black people voted for Obama.

White people (in abundance) voted for Obama.

Jewish people voted for Obama.

Norwegians voted for Obama.

People that prefer full caffeine voted for Obama.

People that prefer decaffeinated voted for Obama.

People that believe that aliens have landed here voted for Obama.

People that don't....

VOTED FOR OBAMA!!!!!

Chill the ever living fuck out.

There's no "new awareness" out there....there's no "ability to see beyond our past" out there....

There was a guy....he ran for President....his name was Obama.

He won.

He did a better job than anyone else running....

He got a lot of folks votes....

He's the next Prez....

He happens to be a smidge darker than some....

Get the holy living fuck over the fact that he has a slightly different hue...

He's the next Prez....

Next?

Look at the size of your population before you worry about racism!
For every racist you must have a thousand people who don't care what colour anyone is. One asshole in a thousand ain't bad you know!

tweedydaddy -> RE: What I predicted last month has started, no end in sight. (11/11/2008 1:19:01 AM)

Funny thing racism. I am white, half irish, half british, I have been fighting the anglo irish conflict all my life, My irish family despised my English family and vice versa.
It was like living in the west bank. Nothing to do with colour, but the hate never ends. My Catholic dad hated his English protestant whore of a wife and never hesitated in saying so, he was like an Irish Taliban, banning the BBC and English newspapers, he took off to go full time drinking when I was fifteen.
Recalling many a kicking simply for being English means that an irish brogue makes me very twitchy, which is why I take myself out my way to say something pleasant.
I have Irish friends, which is an achievement.
The only people who ever really hurt me where all white. I was saved from drowning by a Chinaman, operated on several times by Muslim Egyptian surgeons, fed when I was really hungry by black people.
Racism is as much about ignorance and fear as it is about hate.
A man or woman who clings to racist beliefs might just as well cling to a cancer.
