You don't know the firing sequence of a semiautomatic weapon, do you?  All eight cycles of functioning occur every time a round is fired, regardless of whether the trigger is pulled or not.

No trigger pulls are necessary for "bump firing".  It's one reason marksmanship instructors are pretty fanatic about gun safety.

Actually there is a legal way for you to do exactly that (and I would bet that the plan for semi auto rifles with the anti gun crowd is going to be based similarly along the lines that fully automatic military weapons are regulated now)

FBI background check
Signed paperwork by your local law enforcement chief (police chief or sheriff of your home jurisdiction)
$200 Tax

If the background check is failed for whatever reason if there is a mistake on the paperwork, if the local police chief doesn't sign off, etc you can't get it. But if everything goes exactly right and the paperwork is right and the sheriff signs on the paperwork then yes you can legally own a "machinegun".

You really should take a moment and look it up. It's quite amazing and it only took me just a minute or two myself. Careful though....you really might end up being in favor of a ban on hospitals after you research it. They seem to cause far more deaths than guns.

Well, stop and think about it.  Hospitals are full of sick people--that's reason enough for me to steer clear of them.

What are you "just saying"?  That shootings are horrible?  That killings are awful? 

Would it be more palatable to your sensibilities if the student were stabbed? Or smacked with an aluminum bat snatched from Phys Ed?  Or just thrown down a flight of stairs?

What in this story demonstrates that the problem is the gun and not the person holding the gun?

As for gun laws, if they just fucking punished those who use the ill-legally, then most of this anti gun shit would go away.

Of the 2,400,000-plus Americans who die each year, over 45,000 are killed in transport accidents. The number of homicides, poisonings, and drunk driving fatalities are roughly the same, at around 17,000 each. Perhaps more surprisingly, a stunning 178,000 Americans die from medical or hospital error every year.

So the earlier cited figures that were asked to be proven have now had proof offered up for you slvmike.

Maybe we should try and find out why they are so angry that they feel the need to shoot, stab or bludgeon someone else to death......instead of focusing so much attention on the means they chose. It doesn't really matter what tool was used, the cause of death was anger.
