I complained to the insurance company, it's part of the bill they will not cover.

So for now it's in the just trying to figure out what the hell to do phase.  I talked with the hospital and they will drop their portion if the Dr will drop his.  Just have to wait for his ego to calm down.

Just wait, you're young, one day when you get turned down for health insurance because it is a for profit business and they will lose money on you, see of your opinoin changes then.

no it won't. I don't hold opinions because they are the most profitable for me. I'm more principled than that.

I have followed up every call with paperwork, even sending the letters so they have to sign for them.

We will see,

Hey, I read the Newspaper this morning by "mistake", who do I bill for my time?
Hey, I know what you could do!
Send the Dr's office a bill for $1,100 for "your" time for reading his explanation!

housesub4you -> RE: Hospital and Dr's fees are getting insane! (11/12/2008 11:04:07 AM)

Whatever

Lucylastic -> RE: Hospital and Dr's fees are getting insane! (11/12/2008 11:14:07 AM)

Housesub, that is bloody ridiculous. Im very sorry for your issues, dont worry about the compassion challenged. Its mind over matter, you dont mind and they dont matter:) Im spoiled having lived in the UK and Canada, I will never understand the US healthcare system. Nothing anyone says will change my mind about it either..$500+ for looking at a chart, accidentally? what an ass.
I hope you get it worked out.
Lucy

We got a bill from a Doctor we did not know. So I looked into it, and it seems (this is the Dr's reason for the bill) he looked at her chart by mistake but since he looked at it he billed us $578.00 for his time

Why not just sue the doctor and the hospital for the invasion of privacy and corresponding HIPAA violation?

(Or just mention the HIPAA violation and see if the charge magically disappears after that)

In Canada it is paid for thru tax dollars , and does not cover medications or dental ..  but  a poor person is not forced to have lesser care than someone that is rich  and thank goodness ... I may have complained about the wait times, that lack of doctors but right now when I really need  I am really glad I am in Canada and thank fully they have done something to improve the wait times in the last few years

in the last month and a half  I have been dx with auto immune rheumatoid arthritis , I ended  up with a heart condition and just the recently got  hit lwith the news of lung cancer.. over the last several weeks I have been getting  2 to 3 types of diagnostic tests  a week ..as well as a multitude of bloodtests ,   I ended up in ER 3 times in one week for my heart  ..  My cancer care will be in London  which has some of the most advance onocology care in the country..   my treatment for the Rheumatoid Arthritis is going to at a research center in Toronto  which is working on some of the latest genetics and auto immune research in the world  .. and I am just a lowly factory worker and am getting access to the same healthcare  as the   multi millionaire business man that has the same condition.

And the bonus is  I don't have to hold off to see a doctor till I can afford it,  or move on the street in order to pay for the care.

first off, who forces the poor to have lesser health care. your choice of wording is very confusing. and why do you think everyone should have equal healthcare? if a specialist is particularly good at his job, why should he not be allowed to charge more for his services?

and I have a lot of canadian friends complain about the wait times. I can go see a specialist in the US within a few days notice. and the question is quality. I've never had any problems with quality. you hear about some doctors being bad - you don't go to them. simple as that.

what I don't understand is how it is ethical to take money from people so that other people can benefit.

yes yes, I'm very sorry to hear about your health, but what makes you think you're entitled to other people's money so you can have these services?

my family has never had to do this. they're smart with their money.

Golly gee you and your family are perfect...  Weeee...

Rather enthnocentric don't you think

I'm sorry, did I say they were perfect? They are simply wise with their property.

and I don't think you know what ethnocentricity is...

housesub4you -> RE: Hospital and Dr's fees are getting insane! (11/12/2008 12:14:22 PM)

Enthocentric : characterized by or based on the attitude that one's own group is superior

Your statement implies that your family is better than everyone who can't afford health care

So yes I do understand what it means, the same can't be said about you

my statement didn't say that at all. it simply said they didn't have to sell their house to get health care or wait to see doctors. why? they manage their money well and don't live beyond their means. I'm not superimposing value judgements upon other people.

don't be so defensive.

housesub4you -> RE: Hospital and Dr's fees are getting insane! (11/12/2008 12:31:29 PM)

I'm not just pointing out the way I see it.  I wrote your statement implies it and of course refuting your statement I don't know what enthnocetric means.

speaking of which- I am not getting a flu shot this year.

or the mist.

I dont trust them.  I might get sick- but it isnt  the bad that the shots could cause.  I read the the bird flu is in the shots and can be activated.  Look how vitamin C studies have been suppressed.  Look at how vit C will become a RX in 2010, due to CAFTA, CODEX.  in fact all vits beyomnd the daily rec allowance will become dr rxs.  same goes with dandelions.   We agreed to WTO, we agreed to sureender our soverignty.   So the days of vit, minerals and health foods are numbered.

Bird flu is not in the vaccines, and therefore can't be activated.  Flu may not kill you; the secondary infections might (pneumonia in particular).

The vitamin thing you're talking about only bans the extreme doses:
"The European Food Supplements Directive goes live August 1, and it will instantly criminalize retailers who dare to sell products like vitamin C in "illegal" doses."

So if you want extra large doses, just take more of the smaller doses.

I'd really like to see vitamin/mineral/supplements regulated for the simple reason that you have no idea whether the stated amounts are really in the pills or that the pills will even dissolve properly.  It's a big problem for people doing vitamin studies; they first test for content and they've found it all over the map.

Now, I've seen Vitamin C studies mentioned in the NYTimes, so that's hardly suppression.

we don't need socialized medicine.

sorry, no one has a right to healthcare. if you are sick, you buy the cure and the treatment or find charitous individuals who will help you. it should not be forced upon anyone else.

That works really well, considering half the bankruptcies nowadays are due to medical bills.

and your point is...?

so people thought it was a good idea to spend all their money on medical bills. what are you trying to say?

Arpig -> RE: Hospital and Dr's fees are getting insane! (11/12/2008 2:10:55 PM)

You really are a hard-ass aren't you variation30. I personally am glad I live in Canada where my health care is paid for out of our taxes, otherwise I wouldn't have had the money to see my doctors as often as I have in dealing with my various health issues.
