Well , I didn't vote for him.

King of who ?

Ah but you didnt vote for Brown, or Mandelson either. The same can be said for many of the new Lords, whose only contribution to society is a hefty contribution to party funds. That system is no better than an inherited title in my opinion. [;)]

I think now they have cut down on which members of the Royal family can get taxpayers money it is okay. Although free flights ect should only be kept to official engagements. I admire Princess Anne for keeping her head down and getting on with lots of charitable and offical work. Frankly i dont think paying to keep a head of state ect would be any cheaper.

You presume upon my (alleged) politics , I wasn't talking politics , just ...... fraud , deception , theft , the aesthetics of horses arses , et al

Oh yes....kebabs too

Pirate

MadAxeman -> RE: Prince Charles (11/14/2008 9:16:02 PM)

There are times when voting 'kebab' is the only sensible choice.

FourQ -> RE: Prince Charles (11/15/2008 3:23:30 PM)

IMHO, the Royal family lost so much after Diana and the Queen Mother died.
I've not looked at them in the same way since.  It's just a shame I have to continue supporting them.  Having said that, I've seen the state of the States's idea of presidents.

As for Charlie, I see him as an extension of his father, he means well but some of the things he does aren't altogether 100%.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Prince Charles (11/15/2008 3:30:08 PM)

I was never bothered about the royal family and never will be. When Diana died I only spent some notice as my granny was sad about it. But it wasn't from my interest in germany, nor did it get my interest in the 4 years since I am living here now and I am sure it will not become my interest in my future country either...

All I ever get at the centre of a pizza is one of those plastic stands they use to stop the box collapsing in on itself.

Misst - I would believe it hard to pin down.  Apart from the revenue the royal buildings bring in, you would have to take into account hotels, merchandise, travel, other stores, public houses and buildings, shows and plays, employment etc  too much to even mention here.

We may contribute a certain amount, but they have their own and bring infar more than we give on an individual basis.

Most tourists only get to see the outside of Buckingham palace therefore I suggest we hide them in a cupboard and bring them out every time we need to prove we still have a realistic Royal Family. Tourism need not suffer we can always pretend they have real power every so often with a summary beheading or similar approved.

tweedydaddy -> RE: Prince Charles (11/15/2008 4:23:33 PM)

Apart from him dumping Diana and marrying his horse he is a perfectly admirable Prince, but there is no way he will live long enough to make a mark as King, look to Prince William for that. But as an aristo, I would like him wouldn't I?

piratecommander -> RE: Prince Charles (11/17/2008 2:12:11 PM)

If one was to have a hypothetical prince that one was to hypothetically approve of,he is admirable in comparison to many..........

He hasnt started any wars (that we know of)
He hasnt given any idiots the chance to (try to) run the country (because he has never had that authority)
He thinks we should all grow lots of plants and feel comfortable talking to them (I read my own words then and they looked made up to me too ! )
He was "radical" because he had a mistress then married her after the death of his former (young) wife. [errr needs to work on how "radical" that is : ed ]
He can read (phonetic styleee ! ) stuff that sounds like Cymraeg......which is useful when you're the ""Prince Of Wales" (on the occasion)
He has a "love of horses" (which is nice.........if you like that sort of thing,I'm sure)
He clearly loves his wife just as much (shhhhhh ! )
He has never been imprisoned (except for training purposes ?)
He has looked after his mom and done lots of errands for her (he has, actually ! )
He might grant us all free kebabs one day (extra hot chilli on mine please)
If he gets ""voted"" in he's the sort of "English King" that will get 'round to making St Georges Day a national holiday. (theres a few anglo's in shock that I said that ! )

So since we have some common (oops) ground........When do we get enjoy this discussion over "Pimms"

(or Cider and a Pig Roast)

What date IS St Georges Day ?

(answers on the previously advertised "England For The English And Definately No Free Kebab {hot or not}" Kebab Shop website)

The royal family are a waste of space. Other than the tourism revenue they create they are useless.

Not so sure about the space, bit of a waste of tax money though....

Prince Charles having a servant to squeeze toothpaste out for him, err yeah, I guess he does "create" jobs

Sheesh, I thought every knew that was my birthday Mr Piratecommander.

While I am at it, where have you hidden the oil tanker, as i could use some for the motor. [;)]

StrictnSaucy -> RE: Prince Charles (11/17/2008 4:14:42 PM)

The only good thing I have to say about Charles is that he fathered 2 very handsome young men (Harry and William - thank god he married Diane, cant imagine what an off spring of Camilla and Charles would look like!). Oh and he is an organic advocate. So three things in his favour - I am bigger fan than I realised!

MadAxeman -> RE: Prince Charles (11/18/2008 4:43:04 AM)

Debatable about the spare.
There was a notorious ginge lurking around Diana around the time of Hank's conception.

sirsholly -> RE: Prince Charles (11/18/2008 4:46:09 AM)

with all his $$$ you would think he would have had something done about his ears.

RCdc -> RE: Prince Charles (11/18/2008 4:52:35 AM)

Why?
I think it rocks that he hasn't been swayed by opinion on his ears.  Ya think people would have better things to do than worry about how someones ears might look.  With all the so called stars having plastic surgery down that make them look all so generic, it's kind of refreshing.

lighten up. i was kidding.

RCdc -> RE: Prince Charles (11/18/2008 5:58:20 AM)

I did realise that.  It's a lame old joke that has outworn it's function.  I just don't find it funny.  No biggie.

Nah.  Don't you know your royal gossip?  They use boob tape for that.
Very up-to-date these royals yanno.[;)]
