This year the eggnog appeared early in my house. I blame it on my roommate's friend, because I, being an impulse buyer, usually don't buy eggnog until I am browsing the beverages available at my local gas station and notice they have it. Normally I don't see it until sometime within the week of, or after Thanksgiving. The thing is, once there is eggnog around, I can't get enough of it. I know for sure that if they stocked the shelves with this stuff year round, one of two things would happen... I'd either get sick of it, or I'd get really really fat, really really quick. The thing is, there are a few of those things that we get during the holidays that just don't seem to get made during other times of the year. I've got a few of them listed below, and although most (okay, all) of them CAN be made throughout the year, usually you don't see them.. and finding them made at the store and ready to go just isn't going to happen. The list below seems to be entirely desert dishes. Feel free to comment if there is something I missed... I know a lot of things like green bean casserole and stuffing don't tend to be all that common throughout the year.. and let's face it, cooking up a huge old turkey or ham doesn't seem to be a regular occurrence either. The reason I didn't include those things, though, is that while they might not get made often throughout the year, they definitely get made more than the once or twice for Thanksgiving and Christmahannukwanzaaka in a lot of families. So answer away.. I'm curious to see if I am the only one who is almost relieved that it is hard to find some of the less healthy foods we tend to love so much around the holidays.
