I loved my grandmother's fruitcake & have searched for a pre-made one that's comparable, money being no object.  Alas, I have yet to find one that will do.  She would make hers in late summer, put them in round tins in the basement & go down every so often to visit them & replenish the booze on them.  Little did anyone realize that us kidlets got a bit tipsy on the Grandma's fruitcake!!  I was heartbroken when she stopped making & sending them.  If anyone has a good recipe for one, please please send it to me on the other side.  I know that she used the candied fruit in hers, but I don't remember it being such a gaudy color.

My other Grandmother, the Norwegian one, made Yulekake which is a lot like Panettoni.  She would put only red & green candied fruits in it & no brandy.  It wasn't nearly as good.  LOL

Christmas cake without the icing

not sure if its similar to the cake Linnea described but here we  put fruit n stuff in a ginormous cake ... drown it in alcohol for 3 to 6 months ... then around December coat it in a two inch layer of pure sugar icing ...  In My house the icing tends to be piled on a plate beside the cake and dumped / nibbled on for a temporary sugar high ... but the cake part rocks

also seriously love leftover ham and turkey ... and stuffing .... yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

A local delicacy...white bread roll, filled with left-over turkey and stuffing...and each of the sides of the bread roll dipped quickly in and out of hot gravy.

If a sandwich like that could order me about and whip my ass, I wouldn't need a Dom!

I get out the ole burbon balls recipe...and at this time of year I like the peppermint ice cream with real pieces of peppermint. It screams holidays to me. Plus, I want lots of oranges. My mom always made sure we ate lots of oranges during these months.

this is sooo easy to do. You can buy the frozen bread dough or use tha canned (Pilsbury) dinner rolls. Roll it out flat with a rolling pin, cut to desired size, and add what you wish. I always use the leftover turkey, a tablespoon or so of stuffing, and a bit of gravy. Bake on a cookie sheet as per the temp for the rolls and remove when golden. Serve with more gravy.
Also...you can make extra rolls and freeze them unbaked.

I make a simple corn recipe with the Jiffy box cornmeal..Just a box of it, 2 cans creamed corn, 1 cup sour cream, and 1 egg. Mix together bake at 400 covered for 30 min. Uncover and place havarti cheese on top. Bake another 30 min at 350.
Its really good.
