No one will drink eggnog but me, but FRUITCAKE is in da house!

There's this Italian thing that we call Pignolata, but it's also known as Struffoli---tiny balls of fried dough, supercrispy, held together with honey syrup that has orange zest in it.  The wild one hadn't made it for a year or two before her death, but her sister in law still does, and hers is the BEST!  I might go over this year and help her...  it is a CHORE because the oil has to be cold when you put the dough in, so there have to be multiple frying pans so you can keep frying.  Man, I love that stuff.

We'll make pumpkin pie at other times of the year. Canned pumpkin puree stores well.

And although matzo balls are special at the Seder dinner, they show up here fairly frequently.

While I'm here..... what is a candied yam? And whats eggnog?

Egg nog is a yummy concoction of eggs, milk or cream, nutmeg and or cinnamon, rum flavoring and it's all blended together. It tastes heavenly and even better when adding real rum........yummmmmmm.

I'm not sure about the candied yams and hoping someone will enlighten me on them!

Mmmm, eggnog, I used to hate it, now it's a staple at my house over the holidays.

Another item that only makes an appearance during the holiday's is a nice bottle of Bailey's, for the after-dinner coffee.

I make candied yams (yeah they are freaking scary sounding, but sooo yummy) a few dimes during the year, the 15 year old loves the stuff.

I sure wish pomegranates were in season all year round, I put a bowl of them out on a mantle or table.  And they are so delicious, but a lot of work, like crab.  A foody labor of love.  [:)]

Pumpkin pie and eggnog get my vote.  Love them both, as well as pecan pie.  I like, but don't love, cranberries and gingerbread.  I will eat them if around but don't go out of my way to get them.  I loathe fruit cake and candied yams (as well as mincemeat pie), so if I never see them again, that would be fine with me.

i  so dislike candied yams. putting marshmallows and brown sugar on a tasty yam is almost criminal to my taste buds. i eat yams, stuffing and cranberry sauce all year round with chicken instead of turkey. fudge, i thought could  only be made and eaten at Christmas. years ago, i made eggnog from scratch.  i collected the  freshly laid eggs and bought the fresh cream in the morning, now that was some good eggnog!

i love eggnog (without the booze, that is). also love cranberries.

Mmmm...I love struffoli!  One of my aunts passed me my great-grandmother's recipe. I've been wanting to try it out, but it calls for five pounds of flour, and everyone swears you can't cut the recipe.  Just the thought of frying all that dough has made it too daunting for me.  One of these days...

Fresh, roasted, pumpkin seeds.  I hate the kind you buy in the store that taste like a salt lick, but fresh, roasted - yum......

Pumpkin pie and Christmas cookies.  I made some of the cookies I usually make at Christmas over the summer and the Things were completely confused.  I had to explain to them that they were good any time, but they still stared at me like I had sprouted a second head.  [8|]

being the altruistic person that i really am, i will take all the extra fruitcake as long as it isn't store bought.  i could dig spending every sunday morning with a slice and a cup of coffee. [:)]
