Status: offline 		I have taken it upon myself to conduct an unscientific, purely unorthodox survey about the holiday season, dealing not with the fun things, but those things that really chaps our ass and makes us wonder just WTF we are celebrating.

Status: offline 		It's the stores setting up holiday decorations too early in the season which pisses me off! Many stores in my area have started putting up Yule decorations a good 2 weeks before Halloween!

Status: offline 		I voted for those drunks & other bad drivers ruining the holidays for lots of innocent folk & their loved ones.  I don't care about the decorations going up early, because I tend to not notice them if they bother me.  I've stopped buying presents for my family & friends, since they all have everything that they need anyway.  I give a little here, a little there to brighten up Christmas for those who would otherwise be left wanting.  This will be my first Christmas at home in 7 years, so I'm considering deorating my home.  Quite frankly, I enjoy the holidays, no matter what & have only had 2 out of 60 that weren't happy.  One of those was because my Grandfather was dying after a stroke the day before Christmas Eve.  I love the spirit of the holidays, the giving from one's heart, not the obligatory giving because that's what is expected.  I give where I see a need, but I tend to do that all year round too.  Happy Holidays!!!!!

Status: offline 		The fact that it has become a time of excess makes it less of a holiday and more of a commercial enterprise.  The early decorations have a tendency to make me lose my Xmas spirit!

Status: offline 		I marked "The idea that you have to spend money to show you care" and that is only because there wasn't an "all of the above" choice. But, what really gets me the most, is everybody is going deep into debt buying gifts they can't afford to celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus and forget that it wasn't his BIRTH that is important; it was his RESURRECTION!!!

Now!! back to my usual Saturday pass time

Status: offline 		almost all of the above except my boss doesn't make me work on the holiday.  i would like to add one more: the relative who decides it's wonderful to engage in a "friendly" debate over politics/religion.  i have an aunt (a long-time repub supporter and dubya lover) loves to do this at every holiday gathering she attends.  i avoid her like the plague.

I always look upon this aspect as a tradition of over indulging on baked goodies and then after the holidays kicking mt own butt for eating far more then what I should! Plus the Christmas goodies are highly anticipated as many baked yummies are only indulged in at that time!

I am pertty much a hater of all holidays, I not a social person, I hate to shop, The most I will do is get the grandums something and thats it.
Period. IF there is a gathering I opt out and would rather spend a quite day alone and sleeping.

I am the ulitmate holiday buzzkill.

Status: offline 		Yes, at my part-time job we will use any excuse to eat.  And I know there will be days on end leading up to Christmas when people will bring in all sorts of yummy food.  Heck, we've already started talking about what cookies we'll be eating.

The birth of a great man, divine and human in one form.

However, to get technical, Jesus was most likely born in early to mid spring, since no shepherd in their right mind would be out in the fields at night during this time of the year.

The the 25th of December was actually a high feast for the Roman Sun God, whom the Emperor Constantine followed. 

Christians had the holiday shoved down their throats by Constantine and so, bingo....

As for the Christmas tree, that comes from a pagan celebration of the winter solstice, as does the yule log.  A feast was begun on december 21st and ended january 6th, a typical pagan party with drunken debauchery, lewd behavior, naked dancers, naked women falling into bed to be ravished.......

Seems to me the pagans had the right idea......
