Putting up the outside decorations generally seems to have Jim and I ready to hang each other in the Christmas lights. And why is it that no matter how carefully you take the darn things down and pack them away, they are always a tangled mess the next year?

christmas elves ..

Santa`s elves have downtime between say January first and about march ...

with the thousands of elf workers needed to prepare toys for the millions of kids around the world thats alot of idle hands

50 years ago they instigated what became known as * Elvish Vacation raids * wherein gangs of rampant elves invaded homes and tangled xmas lights, raided fridges , confiscated the socks collected by the dryer pixies and basically wrecked havok on the land ...

the Elvish Raid advice authority suggests throwing your old lights in the garbage and buying new ones in spetember when the elves are busy working ... thus avoiding the tangled lights issue

I love the look of a Christmas tree....I hate putting them and taking them down!!!! Once my son is gone from the house I am getting one of those 3 ft, pre lit trees that folds up like an umbrella and I am done with it!!!!

aw, c'mon, isn't part of the tradition of christmas fiddling with the lights, rearranging all the decorations and vacuuming up tinsel for months after? there are just some traditions you shouldn't do without

I voted drunk drivers, because all the rest were pretty negative imo. My answer would have been:

"What I hate most about the holidays is the people who complain so much about the holidays, which are an amazing time when many people get together and spread cheer and all that good stuff. Those who want to spend this 1/6th of the year whining about how bad it is deserve their unhappy plight"

i have one you overlooked.

locally, we have a radio station (Sunny 100.1 FM) that starts 24/7 Christmas tunes the day after Haloween. and doesn't stop until after New Years. THAT annoys me since it's the only station that plays the songs and genre i like.

michael, I was passing through Macon on Friday night, decided to search for a radio station and found 3 already playing Christmas music!....it was only Nov. 14th!!!!

Needless to say I put a different cd in and continued on down 16 with some great oldies R&B!....

Ok, so I am not crazy about having to put up a Christmas tree, and I tire of Christmas music( should be regulated to Christmas Eve and Christmas morning) an umbrella would just be too Grinch like even for me!....

Although maybe a Golf Umbrella, you know one of those really large ones that is green and red?...a few lights, couple of ornaments and voila!....Almost a Christmas tree!

we have a fiberoptic tree. Just unfold the branches, plug it in and you are done. Sadly..i don't think it will make an appearance this year...we are doing the full size tree and all the BS that goes with it.

I love my fiberoptic tree. It's two pieces. The tree and the stand. It's wonderful not to have to wrestle with lights.

The Biltmore estate is awesome, make sure you take plenty of film. Oh and wear comfortable shoes...it's awesome and it's huge.

The traditions may have been copied from other groups, but they were not taken. The other groups are still free to celebrate anyway they choose. I hear this a lot, especially with the date. People whining and crying because they made Christmas the same day as another holiday. So what, you can't have 2 holidays on the same date? It reminds me of my neighbor who used to cry every year on his birthday. His baby brother had been born on the same day and he couldn't handle the fact that he had to share. Waaa Waaa

The one in Detroit is 100.3 WNIC, I don't have to worry about missing my usual music though, because I usually listen to 94.7 which is classic rock. But from Nov 1 to Jan 1, it's christmas music all the way.

this was addressed in another thread in more detail round about halloween so im not getting completly into it

Fact is Halloween Christmas ... these holidays .. the timing and some of the traditions .. were used by the roman catholic church to help " pagan" converts be more comfortable with the religion being forced down their throats ... they were also used as ways of quelling uprisings from barbaric hordes ...

the pentegram .. a symbol of wicca and other " pagan" religions was instead associated with the devil ... leading to some rowdyness by locals in places like salem ...

I had always heard that they made it on that date to hide the fact that they were celebrating, but I don't really see what difference it makes. That is the day it is celebrated, If you want to participate then have fun, if not that's your choice too. Just quit telling me how terrible it is that they picked that day to celebrate on.
