Well, a more likely scenario in this case is the Republicans, as the minority, choose to be obstructionist. As it stands, many/most of the moderates have been purged from their ranks, and Sen. McCain is not popular with them, especially his tendency to reach across the aisle and seek common ground. They can then run in 2010 claiming the Dem Congress did nothing, and the right-wing of the party already feels the answer is not leaning toward middle America but to harden their strict agenda. If he's going to start to change that atmosphere, Obama's got his work cut out for him. And yes, he'll have to manage his own party too, as the more liberal wing (which, despite people's rhetoric, doesn't include Obama) will naturally want to run with their agenda given a Democratic majority. However, Pelosi and Reid are both stressing the need to govern from the center, so that's encouraging at least. No matter what, the state of the economy is going to dictate what happens for the next 2-3 years, and no one's going to like it. Just reality now. Live well, Tim
