Thanks folks, was nice to finally get it put up on a web page. Another thing crossed off my list of things to do (an only 9,867,428 items left to go! ). Candy, to answer your question I could probably write another essay on it. But at the moment I don't have the time for that so I'll try to come up with a coherent shorter answer. The main difference I've observed in the first half of the essay (the six characteristics) would be in the degree to which they wish to be controlled. A submissive desired less control and finds total control less appealing. Their desire to belong may be more limited in scope... that is... belonging in the sense of being part of a relationship vs belonging as property. Beyond this, the other four characteristics seem to apply equally well to submissives as they do slaves. In the second half of the essay I dealt with personal identity, and this is where I see the biggest difference. Particularly in Self Beliefs. Essentially, a submissive has a different view of themselves than does a slave. Different expectations, different beliefs about their capabilities and needs, etc. These various factors combine to cause a submissive to find slavery unappealing... while a slave, having a different self image, finds slavery appealing. In short, a slave feels their needs will best be met, they will best find personal fulfillment, and their life will be best lived in slavery... this based on their beliefs about themself and their self image. A submissive simply doesn't share this belief, they feel they are best suited for more limited form of power exchange relationship, that this will best fulfill their needs. Who we believe we are, what we believe ourselves, exerts a tremendous amount of control over our lives, our choices, who we are, who we can become.
