Status: offline 		Speakin as one whos flown and has medical problems I.E. CF(Cystic Fibrosis). I'm on oxygen 24/7 now due to my failing lungs because of the CF I was born with. I cannot begin to describe how embarassing it is to be flying and having to use oxygen on a plane. 1st. I have to get on 1st before everyone else. I get gawks and stared at. I know these people have to be thinking

"Wtf does he get the special treatment and get to get on 1st."

Then I'm on the plane the oxygen all hooked up, the cannula on my face then they start letting people on and again I get these gawks and stares..bugs the hell out of me to no end. Then to top it off I get tons of questions from those walking by,loading their luggage then I get that one smart ass. "See thats what you get for smoking." or.. "You smoked huh..you youngins will never learn."

I so wanna punch them in the mouth. I havent ever smoked in my life and I HATE smokers..period..People who smoke have no right to air at all..If Your stupid enough to put that thing in your mouth & inhale then just shoot yourself in the head cuz your killing yourself anyway. You stink..your breath stinks..your clothes stink and you'll have cancer the mouth, the lungs and heart attack. Smoking killed my mom, she died of a heart attack due to smoking. thats what she gets for flat out refusing to quit..Want that to be You? No?..didnt think So..keep on smoking see what happens. Dont even say I didnt warn you..

I think we may be getting to one of the problems here. do you think they 'need' two seats? I would say that they 'want' two seats. now needs and wants are very different. what this boils down to is whether or not individuals should get a free seat because they want one.



If they can't fit in one seat and some people cant then yes they NEED two seats.
If they cannot fit in one seat without being in pain then yes i think they NEED two seats. And that goes for anyone not just obese people.

Status: offline 		What about the people that feel they are entitled to a seat because they feel claustrophobic... or they want more room just because... or their leg is screwy and they can't sit still? Are you discriminating against them as well?

They just need to make the fricking seats a little bigger.

perhaps. but is discrimination a bad thing? the knee-jerk reaction is 'well obviously discrimination is a bad thing it's mean.' well. what we all have to keep in mind is that airlines are not communal property. they are private property. and the people who own the airlines should be able to say who can and who cannot use their property under certain conditions. does this sound cruel? not really. it sounds no more cruel than me suggesting that I should be able to say who can and who cannot stay in my apartment or eat my food or ride in my car.

that was a point I made earlier. Given my druthers, I'd rather be the only person on my airplane. why? because I want it to be like that. my ratiocinations are the same as large people who wants two seats. Are airlines discriminating against me because they won't let me ride by myself in a 747 for 500 dollars? By the mentality of a lot of posters in this thread (assuming they cared about thinking objectively, which I doubt is the case), then yes, they are discriminating against me.

Status: offline 		not a 747 but you can get a small charter plain to fly by yourself for less then an airplane tickets price. So besides the pilot you can fly by yourself. The fat people arent asking to take a huge plain up they are asking or trying to force reasonablly sized seats. which is the issue.

If you're a car salesperson...would you sell someone a Hummer for the same price as a Honda Fit?

Would you, as a truck driver....deliver 15 yards of rock for the same price as 6?

As an architect, design a 4,500 sf home for the same price as a 1,200 sf one?

How about designing 6 brochures....for the same price as 2?

Or even printing 100,000 postcards for the same price as 25,000?

(And yet you expect an airline to provide 2 seats for the same price as 1).

why should  I not be able to fly on a 747 by myself for the price of one ticket? it's the only way I can really be comfortable flying and I need my comfort. what makes my request unreasonable and large people getting two seats reasonable?

for starters, I'm not being facetious as I'm seroius. as far as being pedantic...I don't think that's the case either. I'm just trying to get to the basis of the argument with you. should one individual beable to usurp another individual's property because of their subjective whims? Like it or not, an airline might be "private property" (which, in point of fact, most aren't. They are corporations whose stock is traded on the open market), but when one opens a business that involves providing a service to the public, one agrees to follow certain guidelines and laws. Using your overblown "plane to myself" example, it would be OK with you if airlines, being "private property" decided to forgo required maintenance and inspections of their equipment? Should be permitted to decide that someone who is black or gay isn't allowed to buy a ticket? After all, no one should be able to tell them what to do with their property, right?
