After reading some of the previous post's,the Cabinet position that would seem to be most critical IMO is Secretary of Education.
As to the OP ,is the official position of the U.S. government that womans issues are not a concern?
I am a little confused by your concern CL.

I certainly hope not or it could be embarrassing for the Obama administration.
Sec.'s of State aren't supposed to be criticising the ways that foreign countries do business "within" their countries.
They are there to represent the U.S.'s interests.
That is all.

Will Secretary Clinton Be an Advocate for Women Worldwide?

Assuming she becomes Secretary of State, isn't her job to be an advocate for the United States worldwide?

I fail to see how a woman being in this position is a 'step forward for women'. Also, I read nothing in this article about women's rights (a phrase that is somewhat vague to me). All I saw was a lot of stuff about Mrs. Clinton supporting things that women who didn't want to be pregnant liked.

Thank you popeye for saying what I was thinking.
Are you supposed to be an "advocate" for whatever your race, creed, religion,
sexuality, lifestyle is, etc?
I thought it was a position to represent the USA.

Where do these people come from?
If that is the case, what should our President-elect be an advocate for?

More people probably bought guns now for fear of restrictions making them harder to get later I seriously doubt many intend to make a stand against the state with them. From what I've seen the gun loving people in the US are all paranoid about their right to bear arms being taken away from them with no real evidence that any such thing is happening. It seems to be brought up frequently but no real change ever occurs on the issue, nothing will convince on the subject not even an eight year old kid being able to kill two adults...but I digress.

Fear not.

that's why I got a gun. and by got a gun, I mean recieved money to buy a gun as a christmas present. as far as making a stand against the state, that's not my intention. I remember waco and ruby ridge. I'd rather not see my loved ones blown to bits with a .308 or burnt alive. I just want it for personal protection against whatever I need to protect myself from. I'm not very strong so fisticuffs is out of the question. a .357 and a 12 gauge evens the odds for me quite a bit.

as far as the right to bear arms not being taken away...I would suggest you read the second amendment and then read some of our founding father's writings on the subject of an armed citizenry (thomas jefferson is a particularly good read on the subject). let's just say that any regulation of the sale of firearms is the second amendment being ignored.

You realize gunguys.com is an antigun site that is mostly anti-gun propaganda right? They also ran a story that said firearms were not being seized by the state and military during Katrina. They don't deal with facts, only manipulation.

the post-katrina business was more than a little dirty.

What politicians want and what they can get done are two separate things altogether.

well...I'm not a clairvoyant and I cant' divine what they will actually get done. so I'm just going to use what they have done in the past and what they want to do in the future to gauge my precautions about certain liberties being thrashed.

Mia, I think that President Obama should be an advocate for getting this country going again financially and he's already started that with his announcement sat about creating millions of jobs to start rebuilding our infrastructure.
That is *exactly* what this economy needs right now.
That will help all kinds of businesses and workers.
He should be an advocate for efficient management of the country and enforcement of all of our laws unlike the past eight years.
I think his announcement sat will help the stock market this week, I hope it goes way up and slaughters all the "shorts!" lol

I am not sure I see where being an advocate for women and being Secretary of State are related? She will not set policy and she will not control who or how the USA does business with the world? Is there relevance here I am missing? Will she not talk to Islamic countries that are oppressive to women? As Secretary does she have input into the Domestic affairs of other countries? If she could, through her position get those who are oppressive to women to listen, would it be a bad thing?

Do you have a ref proving either claim?

If you paid attention, you have proof to both. The house and senate both past bills in June of 2006 that made such actions specifically illegal. It was all over the news that the confiscations were happening. You would have had to be totally out of touch to not see it.

As far as the web site, take a look at it. Look at what it advocates. Do a web search for who owns it.
