What a well trained slut you are, dear.

kiyari -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/23/2008 5:14:54 PM)

Aighty.

Workin' my way thru the 'new' posts in here,
and this is the SECOND no-parsing-into-paras post that this particular OP has made,
and then never returned to it's thread.

Ya think it's mebbe a New Troll?

Aswad -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 4:04:39 AM)

Well, the opening post was certainly sadistic.

I am painfully indecisive as to whether to dissect and refute it or not. [:D]

Health,
al-Aswad.

IronBear -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 5:13:31 AM)

I immagine that would depend if you are either the Coroner of working for the Coroner and doing the autopsy on this corps doesn't it?

Aswad -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 6:25:15 AM)

Yeah, I guess.

The post was rather long and poorly formatted, so it would take a lot of time to dissect it. Refuting it, at a glance, seems a rather trivial task, except that it is sort of contingent on the former. At the same time, it was yet another of these confused messes that cause some newbies to back off, thinking all this stuff is complicated and weird. Thus, there are definite rewards to doing it. Procrastinating until the thread drops off the front page seems the most viable course of action, really.

Health,
al-Aswad.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 6:32:01 AM)

I found the concept of particular interest, and wish that the topic was better presented so that it could have generated more debate.  I won't lose sleep over it though.

Padriag -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 6:57:10 AM)

Since I have the flu and don't feel like doing much else, I might give a go at posting a more readable and coherent essay on the subject.  I've certainly commented on it plenty over the years.

persephonee -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 8:00:49 AM)

ooo, please do...i found that winnies answers were way more interesting than the original...question(?) that was presented.

Padriag -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 3:20:15 PM)

May take awhile... got to outlining it and its turning out a bit longer than I thought...

DavanKael -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 3:27:00 PM)

OP----
Dude, you've posted several of these missives.
I have seen other threads where long-term posters with credibility are saying that you are using their works and passing them off as your own.
How about, before you post any more essays, you speak to those accusations.

Aswad -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 6:17:32 PM)

Padriag,

If I may suggest, I have found that it is far easier to write self-contained essays on subtopics, rather than covering the full subject, which quickly starts looking like a small book worth of work.

When covering a full subject, the factoring process alone can take up so much space that a lot of readers get lost before they reach the end, regardless of how concise and well-formatted it is, simply because the number of factors involved is determined by the confusion of terminology and preconceptions around the subject, all of which must be addressed and untangled before a meaningful essay can be written on the subject. That is a significant part of the reason why I start so few threads: it takes far less work, and benefits far more people, to expend the effort on a small piece here and a small piece there. Of course, with subtopic essays, you can just define your terms, outline your starting point, and write from that perspective, hence the suggestion.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Padriag -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 6:35:05 PM)

That's the direction its going in.  I currently have five chapters outlined, with a possible sixth.  But I suspect its probably only the fifth that would be of real interest to most.  The rest either, as you pointed out, lay ground work explaining concepts and terminology or introduce theory (such as Gate Control Theory).  Useful information to someone who takes the time to understand and apply it.  Perhaps I'll just focus on that fifth chapter as an individual essay and see if I can get it done this weekend.

BLGirl -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/25/2008 8:03:40 PM)

I could not agree with you more IronBear, while it looks like the OP is taken from a text of some sort, but left all the references out.  I was tempted to reply with some Freudian Ideology, or Rogerian theory of why people feel the need to lecture, but my mind is fried from writing about the character in Grizzly Man.

Dear Persephonee,

I'm thinkng Padriag was dangling the promise of his post, just to watch us squirm and bounce with expectation.  The tease.
