Dear Persephonee,

I'm thinkng Padriag was dangling the promise of his post, just to watch us squirm and bounce with expectation.  The tease.

Oh, he's dangling something alright.  Not sure it's an essay though.

Would I do a thing like that?

Ummm... okay... I would, but I'm not this time.  I do have family arriving in an hour and a couple appointments to keep.  But I plan to work on the outline as I can and then see if I can get the writing done this weekend.  Won't really leave me any time for proofing and there are a lot of subjects I won't be able to cover.

I had wanted to introduce some on Gate Control Theory and how that explains some aspects of pain play, how it works and why... but I suppose I'll have to do something simpler.  I had also wanted to cover cultural values regarding pain and how that has influenced and produced some forms of pain fetishes, but I'm not sure I'll have the time.  Probably most of it will come down to the usual talk about the chemicals involved, the roles of endorphins, dopamines, seratonin and triptophans, with maybe some discussion of the amygdala and how this all ties in with the mental and emotional aspects.

Damn Gwyn, I wish I would have known you while you were going through nursing school. I bet you were hot and ready 24/7

CalifChick -> RE: The Psycholgy of Pain (11/26/2008 1:56:48 PM)

I had to do a cartoon rendering of serotonin and the amygdala once for a book on kleptomania... the serotonin ended up looking remarkably like the little bits of cartoon dna (sort of stacked bubbles) from the first jurassic park movie, where they're on the "ride" with the movie that explains how they piece together the dna from frogs and the blood stored in the mosquitoes preserved in amber.

Hey perse... you turned on yet?
