Lately I find that setting the mood for a session adds more layers of sensuality. The look, the smell, the feel, all tactile aspects seem to enhance the moment, so I like candles & incense as part of the setting. Smell is especially stimulating, I love the scent of burning sage, it seems to compliment the natural aroma of sex. Anyone have a similar perspective?

I was just talking with someone yesterday about this.  I think I'm oversensitive to scents.  Incense and many scented candles make me nauseous, as do some of those scented plugins.  I'd rather have the light scent of vanilla or apple pie (even if it's a light spray from an air freshener in that scent), than having it hanging cloyingly in the air.

I have a hard time with heavy scents.  One Dom I used to see used a very heavily scented oil and candles and it go to the point where I just wanted to go running from the room.  And the problem is, it's a little awkward to tell someone that what they're burning and obviously enjoying is making me queasy.  Maybe start with very light scents, and ask your partner if they sit well with her.

I have allergic reactions to many scents, sometimes these reactions are severe.  If it were me attempting to set a mood for a scene, I'd be sure to find out if that might be a problem for my partner. It could have the opposite effect that you are looking for.

We have five senses, and I enjoy using them all during "large production" scenes (they're not all big production scenese).

Touch, sight, sound and smell are common senses we play with.  Don't forget taste... for instance, I like to let some chocolate melt in my mouth and then give a long, deep kiss.  Use different tastes to make each kiss a surprise.

Oh, great... it's bad enough that people say I look like Larry Hagman (we actually have the same birthday... different year!) who is 77 years old and has had a liver transplant.  Now I look like a guy that's 68 years old.  I don't know whether to take that as a compliment or not.  Perhaps I'm aging younger?

What's next, someone going to drag in that old wives tail about foreplay being important when we all know real men don't bother with that crap and leave it for the little sissys who aren't real men?  Bah!

Foreplay?  What does golf have to do with it?

We set the basic scene by the decor we chose for our play room, the colour, furnishing, lighting etc. From there we set in a store of candles and holders of varying types, together with a comprehensive supply of the more sensual incense.

Before most of our sessions Andy will disappear for a while to male sure the room is warmed, light candles and incense and set in place the large pieces he wants to use so that by the time i am ordered into the room the ambience is set, and i know that by him taking such steps really helps my mood, starts my mind floating around the room drinking in the setting, feeling comfortable despite the goosebumps!

marie2 -> RE: the mood (11/24/2008 7:47:39 AM)

Sense of smell can be extremely stimulating to me in an aphrodesiac kind of way.  I always get turned-on immensely in church; the combination of frankincense, myrrh, and cedar drives me absolutely wild.  Not a good thing during weddings and funeral services, however.  I always come out horny as hell and wanting to get beaten and fucked on the altar.

Rover -> RE: the mood (11/24/2008 7:50:23 AM)

Hey, marie... I never did learn what denomination you are.  Maybe we could worship together sometime?

LMAO. That's gotta be one of the best flirt's I've seen in awhile. I'm also religious so I find that disturbing as well.

I'll probably go to hell for saying this but I have a fantasy about having sex with a nun.(I'm not Catholic..go figure)

*wonders if marie has a nun's uniform*

I'm seeing someone now who has a blindfold filled with lavender. Very sensual.

Why not simplify this whole thing, John?

How about you be God, and just leave the worshipping part to me?

Would that include a tax free religous status?

HalloweenWhite -> RE: the mood (11/24/2008 8:34:35 AM)

I think setting the mood is really important; sound, scent, lighting, all add to the atmosphere by "absorbing" the people experiencing them. It also shows you've made an effort and scores you brownie points. Not that I'm saying you need them, but hey, extra credit is extra credit ;).

Only if you actually perform miracles.
