Hey, when previously living in the hood I have had gangsta's drive by pumpin the volume so high that the windows rattled.  I would have them stuck in a chair, listening to failed auditions from American Idol.

Ven, that would break the Geneva Convention codes on Torture - and definately qualify as Cruel and Inhuman Punishment!

I smell a business opportunity; my kids keep saying I sound awful - maybe I should get in the studio and record a few albums?

"No Right To Remain Silent" sounds like a good name for the first one

I guess I was way ahead of my time.....I punished my loud-partying neighbors with 6 a.m. Barry Manilow concerts 25 years ago.  It was actually very satisfying to see them sitting on their porch all bleary-eyed with mugs of coffee in their grimey little fists while pulling in the driveway after a long, leisurely breakfast out.  Bwa ha.

...seriously, if all that is hurt is a little dignity and forcing someone to put themselves in the shoes of their victim and actually consider what they did? i'm for it. ...

It seems like a good first measure in that it isn't excessively punitive ~ I rather do that than pay money or lose audio equipment.
I think it could help illustrate the point that loud music can intrude on other's privacy.
Although, I don't know about Barry Manilow; I'm not a fan, but I think I could rock it "Copa Cabana" style for an hour.

Well, I'm wondering if using those recorded works in the way the judge is violates the terms of use or copyright associated with the music... If it were my music, I'd demand royalties be paid.

Yes, but then you would be admitting that your music was so bad, it was used as punishment...the more money you made, the worse you would feel about yourself and you would end up spending even more money for therapy. Better to ignore the whole thing and assume they are using someone elses stuff.

This is a very good point.  It would definitely have to be "early" Barry....Mandy, Trying To Get The Feeling Again, Weekend In New England, I Write The Songs.....an hour of that and they'll be begging for mercy.

I have an even better suggestion than Barry Manilow - and it was bought to my attention by a cop who did it to his hiphop loving clients - bagpipe music, played at loud levels. And for those who love bagpipe music - rap!!!    actually, i thought the bagpipe music could have been considered "cruel and unusual punishment".

LOL, I did that once to some pesky neighbors!

I live in a very small town and we got a neighbor who plays the gangsta rap at 10:30 at night when driving by.  Next time, I am calling the police because my MIL goes to bed by 8:30 and complains about the subwoofers that fool has installed in his classic car.  The fool even dresses like a gangsta and this is a family neighbothood!

Barry Manilow is not harsh enough.  May I suggest totally tasteless music from the 80s?

To remain (?) humane maybe Barney should be reserved for repeat offenders. But Manilow might not be bad enough. How about Leonard Nimoy's album.

Hello starshine

Those of you who remember that, I bet you wish you didn't about now.

Another one that might be good is Frank Zappa "The Best Band You Never Heard". It is actually a very professionally done work, but they purposely chose the wrong note at the wrong time. Totally dischordant. That one might be better for the middle of the night band practicers, rather than the rappers or whatever. Manilow should work for the rappers.

Of course they could always tie a guy down with probes all over and find out from physiological responses what he hates the most. Seems like shades of Clockwork Orange, but then again,,,,,,,,,, it is.

I had a short bagpipe phase.
My girlfriend of the time made a rule: No bagpipes before noon.
Fair enough.

even though it doesn't sound like it - i really enjoy bagpipes - especially the war pipes. But for the sake of sanity, they need to be played out of doors!

Things like this do a lot more harm than good to the dignity of the law.

Frankly, being forced to listen to music I didn't like for an hour would be barely an annoyance, and certainly not as effective in preventing a repeat offense as a fine or jail time. It just turns the criminal justice system into a farce. Maybe he should try teaching Kindergarten for a while instead of sitting on the bench.

I knew someone would say that. =P

It should have it as a goal at least.

(Or maybe I just have a higher tolerance than most for annoying music!)
