YourhandMyAss -> Daddy accidently washed his ipod, is there any hope for saving it? (11/27/2008 12:54:24 PM)

He didn't realize it was in his pants pocket and when I got the laundry out this morning there it was under the spin wheel. It has gone through a whole complete cycle and then sat there for a few hours.

probably not, ipods are so delicate, you'll have to take it to an electical shop to check though

I've never done this with an ipod, but I have washed 3 cellphones in the past year and a half. There's not much you can do, fixing generally costs more than just getting a new one.

Let it dry for a few days, and charge it to see whats what.  Chances are, its gone to the great Apple Gates in the sky...

Get the battery out asap, that's the only way to save it.  Dry it a few days (no heat, just airflow), and then put the battery back in and try it.  Do not turn it on while it's wet, do not keep the battery in it while it's wet.  Very important!

I always use Tide when washing my Zune....sorry, can't speak to the requirements for iPods.

NO, unfortunately it sat for several hours before we noticed it and several more before I was able to check for an answer, you think it'd still work?

BoyWife4DomMan -> RE: Daddy accidently washed his ipod, is there any hope for saving it? (11/27/2008 4:55:53 PM)

I did that to my old ipod twice (yes, I can be somewhat absent-minded) and it survived with some occasional glitches.

I'd let it dry (not in the dryer, obviously) and then a day or two later plugged it into my computer to charge and restore! It worked.

The headset was dead though.

Hope this helps!

iPods are fairly resiliant little things.  Let it dry out and see what happens.  There are lots of shops online that can service a Pod and they're pretty reasonable in terms of price.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

This worked with my cell phone. Do not try to turn it on. Put it in a bowl of raw rice for three days. Cover it in rice. After the third day, try it and see if it works. Sometimes the rice will absorb any moisture in the gadget. My phone now works fine.

I have a small 1 GB Creative Zen that went through the washer and dryer (accidently left in jeans pocket) way  back last winter and I'm still using it.  I had to buy new ear buds, but the player works perfectly.  I was amazed.

I swear.  These knucklehead names of gadgets has me clueless.

I barely know what that is- or why I would need one.   So it is a walkman?

blue tooth, blue ray- high def radio, ..... I have 2 rooms full of worthless electonic broken junk.   I certainly dont need more, and fixing the stuff is not worth it either.

and of course they do with computers what they do with TVs,  I mean cars.   a new model comes out solely to make the old ome look out of date. those white CRT comuter monitors were a big deal- it reaked of modernism.   that went to bigger, to black, to flat, and now it is going tinted and lighted.

did you know the teck exisits to make clothes that do not need launderred?
proctor and gamble tho wouldnt sell soap.

speaking of which the new dish liquid formula sucks.   i started adding my own bleach.

If that doesn't fix your iPod...maybe the rice will start singing.

hunky, an iPod is a brand of mp3 player, like Ford is a brand of car.  Creative Zen is another brand....like Chrysler.  This is one piece of technology that is great to own.....once you have one, you'll never go back to Walkmans.  This thing is a little bigger than a credit card, but you can put 100's and 1000's of your favorite songs & albums into it's little computer memory bank, and then always have all of them with you and available to play.  It's really simple to load the songs that you presumably have in your computer, which is also very easy to do, into the player.  You can throw it in your pocket....ALL your music, ALL the time.  It's like having your big bulky Walkman and 900 CD's with you all the time!  That's the beauty of it.  They come with simple directions on how to do it, very simple.

Now, some people buy ones with a lot of capacity, or memory space, and they load movies and videos onto it, too.  That's way beyond my wants or needs, so I just bought a small one, with 1 gigabite (GB) of memory space, and I have about 450 songs on it, with space for maybe 50 or so more.

They also don't skip if you're walking with one like the CD-playing Walkmans (should I say Walkmen???) do.  That's another plus.  And you don't have to change CD's, the music just keeps on playing until you shut it off.

Maybe Santa Claus will bring you one [;)]

I know they were selling IPODs today at Hastings for the black friday sale at 25 a piece.
Never owned one yet myself.  Just no reason to.  I listen to music in the car...XM..so no need to ever have a CD with me.
I listen to music at the gym while working out..again XM on the machines.
Just don't see the reason to invest in an IPOD.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Daddy accidently washed his ipod, is there any hope for saving it? (11/28/2008 3:24:16 PM)

No, Ipods are not Walkmans, they're electronic devices that store music and mp3 files pictures and some will hold and play  movies, you can play games on some of them too I think.  Quite handy if you're always on the go and want your music with you. Or you could buy one and treat it like a mimiature computer, and store all your pictures on it.

Was that a joke? Get the battery out of an I-Pod some chance. This is why I-Pods are crap, the integrated battery you can't replace but instead have to get serviced for a service fee. People labour cost more than goods, I hate that. Like when the car people told me my wonky headlight would need precision alignment and I said fuck that I'll just turn it on facing a wall and align them myself.

Put it away and forget about it for a week or so. Put it in a cool dry place and if it hasn't short circuited there may be a chance it will work after it dries out completely.

A helpful hint on that part, such as when my Dear One gave his cell phone a bath... a couple times...  put it away such as luscious suggested, but, when you do, put it away in a bag with rice, or crackers. They'll help to absorb the moisture in the device, if there is any.
