Hey, I had a lot of fun with some anti-gun people here in town, arguing for county ordinance to make it illegal to have guns in the back windows of a pickup....

A representatives from various state and local law enforcement agencies were present as well as a state attorney and the district attorney.

A reporter asked what the legal definition of a gun, and got the following answer, the federal definition.... "a weapon which can be or is designed to or can be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive"

So, being a smart ass, I asked, "so if it uses anything besides a chemical propellant, it is not a gun?"

I was informed that air powered bb guns and nail guns could fall into the category of deadly weapon, along with bats, pipes, bladed weapons, clubs, lengths of pipe, and even a syringe filled with poison....

Now the funny thing is, because at the present time, Gaussian and rail type weapons are considered experimental AND therefore not codified in our present legal system, possession of such 'nonweapon weapons' is not illegal regardless of the fact that some of these weapons can accelerate rounds up to 7 times the speed of sound or more. (I asked)[:D]

So, until these items fall into the legal classification of weapons, GUESS WHAT?????

You all can come and take my guns as soon as you pass the laws..... I will just make some that do not qualify as guns under the law, and in fact cannot even be used to charge a person for illegal possession of weapons.......

I mean for the cost of various diameters of pvc pipe, some various lil things at radio shack and a few dozen battery packs, I could conceivably build an anti tank weapon, sniper rifle, pistol, etc....

and when fired are perfectly soundless......

THANK GOD FOR PHYSICISTS....

Tweedydaddy,

Notice how no one really addressed your argument? It's because they can't.

The "statistics" at the start of this thread are irrelevant, and in some cases, dead wrong.

Eg- the claim that the Japanese did not invade the US because the citizens were armed is just ridiculous. They didn't invade Hawaii because they were already overstretched to make that attack, let alone go even further to the west coast of the USA. The Pearl Harbor attack was intended to shut us down for long enough for them to consolidate their empire in the Pacific.

Also- if gun control started in Germany in 1938, AND assuming that it was as awash with guns as we are now, then the Jews could have bought guns from the black market. We'd have to assume they did that, really, if we assume this example has any relevance for us. And see how they did...

The typical guns owned by citizens are nowhere near enough to stop armies. Look at Afganistan- the mujahadeen were getting clobbered with their bolt-action Enfields until the US started suppling them with modern weapons, and even then could not stand against the Soviets' MiL-24s until the US started providing Stingers. We supported them to the tune of something like $300 million a year. Even that would not have done it without  lots of help from the Pakistanis, who sheltered and trained them,  and some help from foreign jihadis. (If you don't want to read about it, go watch "Charlie Wilson's War"- it gives the salient points.I got my info from reading about it at the time, in the news and sources like Readers Digest.)

Debate gun ownership vs control with real data, not some BS.

By the way, one of those foreign jihadis is someone you might recognize- Osama Bin Laden. That's where he got his start and his training. Interesting, isn't it?? I think it shows that the world is vastly more complex than most people give it credit for.

Personally sat over here on the other side of the Atlantic it always amuses me the lengths some people go to in justifying the ownership of an item specifically designed to kill people.

And this is posted on a forum where a vast majority of people own items specifically designed for torture.

Yes, it is amusing.

Bottom line. Responsible actions are responsible actions.

Shrug.

I wonder it those who use that argument, feel it should also apply to bows and crossbows. After all they were also designed to kill.

MMMM...guns....I have lots of guns; guns that I carry on me at all times, guns that I keep in a place that the teenager can easily and quickly get to,  guns that I keep in my car [:)]
I also have lots of knives; knives that I carry on me at all times, knives that my teenager knows how to use to defend herself, and knives that I keep within easy and quick reach in my car.
I also have a lead pipe in my car,  one in my room at home, and the teenager has one that she keeps under her pillow [:)]
Add all this up with the self defense that I have taken over the last 20 years, and the self defense that the youngins have had in that same space of time....and well fuck...we are just one big MoFucking bad ass family to fuck with [8D]

Life sure is great. [:D]
