HAPPY BLACK FRIDAY!!!!!

Boy we sure reaped in the sales, two 40 dollar shirts were 20 bucks a piece and I bought them for my dad, and he was so touched I'd spend money on him just cause I love him and wanted him to have the shirts, when I am so far in debt, he was teary eyed. I found a 120 dollar 1.1 cubic microwave for sale for 59.99 And a 40 dollar gorgeous shawl was on sale for 20, and I found a 600 thread count sateen cotton bed set for 34 dollars it was almost 200 normally, and then I got some other ones 200 thread count not soft an nice but great color pattern 69 dollars on sale for 24. And since I opened an account with Kohl's my 200 dollar purchase was only 179 and I got 30 dollar coupon to use in store even on sale items, so if the sheets fit my bed I'm going back to get more.

Hancock's was almost giving their stuff away fleece that was normally 8 bucks a yard was on sale for 2.22 and kids baby print flannel 5 or 6 bucks a yard was also 2 bucks. I didn't go though I was smart an stayed away or I would of come home with tons of material I didn't  need and no place to store it.  I did go to walmart though and got my mom a brothers sewing machine, it was on sale for 59 dollars and was a higher quality deal than the lil toy one for 50 bucks she was going to buy them.

It's to bad none in my family* me particularly are in the market for a 3 karat diamond ring, Macy's has a 3 karate diamond ring 399 dollars when normally it'd be costing you 1,365 dollars, and that's not even before sales tax.

I don't care how good you think you did, by mid January you are not going to be happy. That's one of the reasons my family does not do Christmas, when the sales come you find that if you had waited it would be cheaper.

And it will, the markup on such frivolous items is so high that they can have a half price sale and make more money because of it.

Retail jewlery and furniture are the worst.

Also think of this, the retailer collected a certain amount from you, if the recipients decide to return the gifts to the store they will not get as much as you paid, they will only get the current price. My family and I got so sick of getting screwed like this that we don't buy anything until after Christmas.

Things might be different this year in light of the financial situation, but I doubt it. Sometime in January I think we'll see what this garbage is really supposed to cost.

Don't take it too hard, you probably did better than most. Many go to expensive places and pay top buck for stuff,  they REALLY get screwed.

Do not, under any circumstances ever get me a Christmas present, nor a present for any other occasion. Consider that money still lurking in your pocket as my present to you, and I will reciprocate.

That's how come we got paid off cars and houses, well one of the reasons. Where I work there are no bonuses or turkeys given out, but one guy the other day, just like every year says "Hey, where's our turkey ?".  I say "I don't want turkey, all I want is money".

Anyway, just don't read the Sunday paper after Christmas and you should be fine. Really don't, because this year, or I mean next year that is, I think we will see the 42" plasma TV for $300. With all of the factors involved, then will be the time to have some money, they will be selling things at cost, posiibly even lower.

That ring at Macy's is a 3 stone diamond ring, not a 3 kt diamond ring. The total weight is only .5 kt and the quality is less than S2 -  In other words, not a very good set of diamonds. Most of Macy's stones have visible inclusions and are way over priced. If you're looking for diamonds, you're better off buying loose stones from a diamond broker. You won't have to pay up to a 500% mark-up and you will get much more bang for your buck.

Happy Black Friday to you too.  Since I am unemployed I didn't get to shop.  I am somewhat comforted in the fact that I am sick anyway and wouldn't have been able to endure the lines.  However often the deals can be found online as well.

Araven -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/28/2008 10:57:32 PM)

The deals this year, at least the ones I saw did not really impress me.

moonvine -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/28/2008 11:03:57 PM)

I didn't even look this year knowing I had no money.  Staples usually has several things free after rebate.

tsatske -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/28/2008 11:50:15 PM)

Staples - okay, here's a wierd staples thing!
There is a thing I am really wanting - a special glass tea pot that you use to brew those new 'blooming' or 'flowering' teas.
I picked up the Black Friday ad - Staples had them on sale! How strange is that?
I want a special teapot - oh, yea, the office supply store! Now, why didn't I think of that!

I happened to be in front of an electronics store at 6:30am this morning.  The line was 100's of people long.  and they had clearly been there for awhile.  It was set up like a snooty NYC club with a few people being let past they velvet rope at a time.  The people looked sad and pathetic to me.

moonvine -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 12:30:29 AM)

The last time I waited in a line outside an electronics store on Black Friday it was fun.  The employees passed out doughnuts and juice.  I wanted a 46 inch HDTV and got the last voucher.  I was in by 6 and out by 6:30.  It was pretty fun.

Now I get most things online, so no going to the store at all, but still getting the deals.  This computer I am using now was an *excellent* BF deal.

SummerWind -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 12:41:32 AM)

Standing in a line eating a doughnut....in any context......could never be fun for me.   I can't remeber the last time I stood in a line for anything.  Food, material things etc.....I would rather go without.....

moonvine -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 12:43:08 AM)

Gosh, you never go to the grocery store?

But seriously, just because other people enjoy things you don't doesn't make them "sad and pathetic" does it?

SummerWind -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 12:58:23 AM)

Actually....I rarely go to the grocery store.....and if I do....It's never at a time when there will be any substantial lines........

The "sad and pathetic" perception was based on my view of those people willing to sacrifice hours of their life for some material possession.  A possession, that based on the pace of technological advancements,  will likely be obsolete in a relatively short period of time.  These were not poor people standing in line to save money on items of basic need for themselves or their families that they otherwise could not afford........

moonvine -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 12:59:27 AM)

Perhaps you don't understand that it is actually fun for us?

And yes, whatever it is I am buying will likely be obsolete at some point in time.  That's an even better reason to not spend more on it than I have to.  That's time I have to spend at work draining my life away.  So as I want material possessions, I want to spend as little as possible on them.  Of course it is also a perfectly valid lifestyle choice to not want material possessions.

sirsholly -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 3:03:38 AM)

I would go out on Black Friday before the LoudOne was born. Now i choose not to. First, i buy mostly for teenagers. They want CASH. Secondly...and this is something i need to say to parents i see at the mall.....little ones do NOT need to be a part of an all-day shopping trip!!!!

Apologies if this is off topic...but sheeeesh!! I had to run the truck to the gas station for a fill up yesterday. There was a woman next to me. Her back seat was loaded with Macy's bags, et al, and there was a crying toddler in the car seat. Mom was SCREAMING at the child for her misbehavior. Did it ever occur to mother-of-the year that the kid was tired, hungry, scared of the crowds, and mom needed to give more attention to the kid then to the sale racks???

KMsAngel -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 3:35:02 AM)

girlfriends are the best passengers to take when shopping.

purepleasure -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 5:07:10 AM)

I love that I can get the Black Friday specials I want online, and don't have to fight the crowds and cold weather.

Now to go post this in the correct thread!

SilverMark -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 5:11:17 AM)

The best thing about this year's Black Friday....My stores did as much as last year and I was prepared for them to do much less!....Thank you shoppers!

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 6:03:21 AM)

I refuse to EVER do Black Friday without basic riot gear.  That being said, I didnt head to the city until atleast 2pm when everyone was tired, war-weary, and heading home.  By the time I got to the shoe store, it had the same amount of traffic as it would on a normal Friday.  Guess who was happy she could shop at her own pace and not have to worry about getting sucker punched because I chose the last pair of furry boots, or black and pink sneakers?

Lynnxz -> RE: Happy Black Friday I hope your black friday finds were as good as ours, (11/29/2008 6:16:29 AM)

Heh, way to pee in everyones cheerios Term and Summer.

I didn't go shopping this year, I was looking through the ads and didn't see anything I really wanted, and no one had Ipod nanos on sale. A frend and I went last year though, and had tons of fun- ended up getting a 275 dollar gps system for like fifty bucks.
