Ok, any browser recommendations, for I have had enough of Mozilla Firefox. Version two had problems, now version three is worse, I have had enough.

I just want something that is resonably fast, lightweight and doesn't keep crashing, anything out there worthy of a mention?

I know no one likes Microsoft but I tend to just stick with IE. I've found no faults with it compared to the many faults with other browsers when they try to do things that I take for granted with IE.

I am using IE now, and it is so slow in comparison to Firefox, plus the fact that I don't know it is not helping

There's wisdom in surfing with browsers that aren't the most commonly used.  The reason is that you'll be safer from all those popups and such that people target the most common browser with.  If you don't use Firefox for whatever perceived problems, IE is not the answer.  That's the wrong direction in terms of your own safety and protection from annoyance.  That said, Firefox has yet to do me wrong.

Yeah this is why I drive a tree to work, them criminals can't steal it because they don't know how it works yet.

The primary difference, of course, being that alternate browsers actually work for their intended purpose.  To use your analogy, you'd be less likely to have your car stolen if you drove something that car thieves had no interest in.  Doesn't mean it won't happen.

I wouldn't claim that not using IE makes you safe.  Like when using a Mac, you can still get viruses, but they're pretty rare.  Why spend time making malicious code that will barely get to do its thing?  It's been my experience that pop-ups and other annoyances are less common the more obscure your browser is.

I'm pretty happy with Safari. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't seem to recognize Flash Media Player, so any sites I go to which require that, I open up with IE.

Me neither.  I still mainly use IE because I have more plug-ins for it, and some of them are pretty useful, but I've had lotsa problems with IE, and I'm expecting that Firefox will one day become my main browser.

Looking in the Firefox forums, many it seems are reporting slow running, freezing and crashes, but unless you are au fait with programming, the solutions are pretty useless.

I have just run my security software and the online scanner Trend Housecall, no problems reported, yet I still have problems with Firefox. I just hope it is not another vista problem.

Freezing and the report, ''Mozilla Firefox not responding'' is a daily occurance. The only way out is to close the browser and restart. The most annoying problem is where one happens upon a website that won't load, the error page, I dread those, as it is as if the browser falls down a deep hole and can't get out, no amount of clicking, double clicking and repetitive double clicking will get the browser to go backwards.

Oh, I have already tried reinstalling, same crap.

Firefox is probably the single most reliable software application I have ever used. I used Opera before Firefox and Navigator before Opera. They were both good but I liked neither of them as much as Firefox. Opera's ability to automatically update a web page at a set interval was handy. MSIE was absolutely horrid in its earliest incarnations and got worse with each new version. I have to use it to access the company intranet for work matters and its uselessness is utterly amazing.

Opera works pretty nicely, minimal crashes...although you will run into some sites where videos aren't supported by Opera.

I am thinking to go back to Opera, I rarely had problems with that one although it did demand a fair old bit of CPU from time to time. I don't know why I changed really.

That's really weird you'd say that about firefox, I've used IE explorer, google chrome, and firefox, well in recent times anyway, and by far firefox is the most stable. Chrome is beta so it isn't really ready for prime time, I had it crash on me more than once. IE just always loads slower for me.

I'm not sure why your experience would be different, unless you have a lot of toolbar type stuff loaded, that'll sometimes do it. I only have one toolbar thingy going, maybe that is your problem.

Firefox has only frozen on me once, but that's from my entire system deciding it was a good time to freeze up and crash. I don't have all the sidebar nonsense or buttons,  just the basics like my email and news and spell check.

Need,

I used to love firefox and since updating several things on my pc I have a lot of trouble with it dropping out when it cannot load the page.
My toolbars are slightly confusing. I am not sure how to clean that and my fave bookmark files cleaned up while trying to keep it simple. I looked up bookmarks online and followed what they said, although my pc didn't seem to be responding exactly step for step as they showed it as showed online in the 'help' sections. Easiest ways to clean up toolbars is.. what?

Thanks,
Me
I recently got  a Dell and have had a lot more pc problems since then.
