Yes because quizes online totally give credit to characters.

I personally LOVED twilight, though the book to movie glitches werent to obvious but a bit annoying. But i can understand why they had to change it mostly because 90% of americans are fucking idiots, they wouldnt get several of more amusing parts of the book.

As for its plot. It is a romance Yes, theres no denying that. And its based on vegtiarian vampires, there are also shapeshifters as well.  But as for the plot, for a YOUNG ADULT FICTION meant for  THOSE AGES 9 TO 16 TO ENJOY AND UNDERSTAND It was an amazing book. Sure for 40 year olds it looses some of its appeal because it wasnt written for 40 year olds it wasnt written for 20 year olds it was written for the age group 9 to 16.

As for SMs writing try the host it was written for a bit older of an audience.

But i loved the book and the music involved. I really enjoyed how molestable they made the bad guys. -mmm mmm mmm.

That may very well be part of the draw. It could be the universal Mary Sue for every reader.

TribeTziyon -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 3:51:15 PM)

It's like  vampires with braces.

I bet LKH is hot to get her stuff up quicker now.

hopelessfool -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 3:54:12 PM)

LKH is just soft core porn pretending to be fantasy fiction....

and vampires that dont kill people is actually a topic of Many vampire books. takign willing hosts instead of unwilling.

Its just this from of vamprisim is based on it being an infection more then anything else. Meaning you cant really take willing hosts with out making that host a vampire. So with that logic not wanting to kill it makes logical sense to eat animals instead of people.

I didn't have to take a quiz online to figure out that Bella was a total twit. I took the quiz online because it was humorous, but I'm glad you enjoyed the movie...I was talking about the quality of the book...more so then the movie ( Though Catherine Hartwicke is a total idiot and I have no idea why they hired her...)

No the book wasn't amusing, it was dull and had a simple plot and no sub plot. Bella thinks Edward is gorgeous, wants to be with Edward...what's the dark mysteriousness there?

Yes but 9 - 16 year olds aren't just reading these books...and I feel horrible for the 9 - 16 year olds because surely they can't be that dumb...they should pick up the hobbit or Dickens...or hell even Tolstoy.

hopelessfool -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 4:01:37 PM)

Yeah...  the fact that you didnt pick up on half of the plot. is why you have such and issue with it, there were at least 5 sub plots with in the 4 books. and by the third book to main plots to follow. Several mysteries, such as at the beginign the murders, the mystery of the cullens. The second the truth of jacob the vulterli (sp?) the third the murders, the newborns who was making them and much much much much much more.

There is a reason why there was a 70 million gross its opening weekend and more then 9 million copys of the book sold. Because that many people enjoyed it, as well as understood it.

Try re reading it from a 9-16 year olds point of view, also think back to books you read as a younge kid, do any stand the test of time and knowledge? Ive only known one author for that and thats sherwood smith.

Laurell K. Hamilton has written some great stuff in my opinion...but i'm still a sucker for Anne Rice.

hopelessfool -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 4:17:38 PM)

Her plot lines all the same in both her series... meet female feminist who wants to break from blah.... run in to trouble. Now she must fuck pretty much every man or creature she meets to survive.  ...though her death of the darklord i think it is was pretty decent.

Once the arduer took center stage for AB it began the slow decline for me.

I am so tired of the squeeing over who the crotch of doom is gonna consume next.

Merry never caught my fancy.

nhite -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 4:43:29 PM)

i LOVE the first two books; #3 was ok;  had no use for #4

as for the movie, i woudl have preferred watching paint dry on the wall even at the same cost for the seat.   and i mean that even just as the movie without comparison to the books.  the characters weren't believeable to me;  the camera angles at times were annoying;  the 'emotions' on the faces too contrived;   the 'parents' weren't old enough;   i guess the whole entire thing was far too contrived and forced for me as a movie.   i wish i could get a refund just to burn the money into ashes and feel it was put to better use.

nhite -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 4:44:46 PM)

the book was NOT written with an intended audience of pre-adults.  the author wrote the book the way she watned it written and the published opted to market it as YA

mozartsfuneral -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/8/2008 5:00:06 PM)

You're right about LKH.

But isn't Stephenie Meyer going to write another whole series based on Edward and his POV...[:@]

hopelessfool -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/9/2008 3:16:37 AM)

I believe its only the first book. and its posted on her website, its actually a lot better then twilight beause the first several chapters unless you read on is a little ... okay now what?

As for nhite. She did write the series in intention for younge adults. Mostly beause of how popular harry potter was because it was a better area to write for. I mean really there are how many teenagers in the world? it makes more sense to write for that demographic with enough added to caputre some of the older demographic.

She also says she wrote it for the pre teen to teen genere in several of her interviews. The only thing her publishers did was make her write 2-4 ms and the host (her adult genere book) ((no not naughty adult based for adults ))

simpleplan2 -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/9/2008 3:22:34 AM)

I gotta agree with you about Hamilton.  I do like Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series tho, especially the werewolves.  The witches are ok, but her writing is starting to deteriorate also.

Lynnxz -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/9/2008 3:36:13 AM)

Heh... I just found a site who advised this:  "Here's a fun game: take a drink every time Meyer uses some elaborate adjective to describe him. You'll be in the hospital by chapter seven."

[:D]

You'll have your stomach pumped and your liver in dire need of a transplant.

quote:

ORIGINAL: LaTigresse

Isn't the movie a mushy teen romance wrapped in a vampire suit?

i saw it with my 12 year old and that was my take on it as well.  i enjoyed more seeing all the gushy little adolescents swoon when the main character made his entrance.... ahh to be that young again [:D]

MarsBonfire -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/9/2008 3:45:49 PM)

I was actually hoping it would be good, going in... (I love vampire films) Unfortunately, my review is composed of one word... a word you NEVER want applied to a vampire film...

Twilight = bloodless.

mozartsfuneral -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/9/2008 5:31:09 PM)

lol you're right i was too distracted by the glitter to realize there was no blood.

hopelessfool -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/10/2008 3:13:43 AM)

Actually there were several points in the books with blood as well as several scenes in the movie with blood. Like the end fight with james. its described pretty detailed in the book. they subdued it for the movie because little kids would be watching it. but there was blood.

Maybe Blood lite is a better term.

But again, its based on a sect of vampires that dont want to be monsters and are trying to keep themselves more human. so it makes sense that its blood lite. Also the 2-4 have blood and more violence in them. but again its for the young adult genere you want gore go to the adult section. You want a decent young adult series thats ment to not make your children stay up for days you want twilight.
