I was actually hoping it would be good, going in... (I love vampire films) Unfortunately, my review is composed of one word... a word you NEVER want applied to a vampire film...

Twilight = bloodless.

Not only bloodless, but sexless. How can you have 104-year-old vampire who is a virgin and plays baseball??? [&:] It's like Norman Rockwell wrote a vampire novel- it's just not right!

Say what you will about the lack of subtelty in Anita Blake Orgasm Hunter (btw, the most recent book got back on track with an actual, like, story, and was a huge improvement over the last few), but at least in the LKH world, every female vampire over a hundred years old is a twisted sexual sadist. You can guess where I'm spending *my* book money! [8D]

For vast amounts of snarkiness about Twilight (warning- spoilers), Cleolinda is a little obsessed with it- http://community.livejournal.com/m15m/19551.html

Thanks for the link, i love reading about Twilight and all of it's ridiculousness and telling people how horrible it is...Plus i also like telling people that Edward is just a character.

scarlettjinx -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/11/2008 6:47:44 PM)

If you have read and enjoyed the books, the movie was a bigger letdown than bad sex or sugarfree chocolate. I was so disappointed, and mad at myself for spending four dollars to see it (matinee). It was horrible.

As for the sexless comment, it explains why there is no sex in the books.

#1. Edward is an old fashioned gentleman that believe in waiting until marraige to have sex.

#2 he thinks that if he were to give Bella the big nasty, he will kill her or at least break her alot.

but the sexual tension in the books is enough to do it for me.  Reminds me of those days with your first love when you wanted to... but you couldn't...

Scarlettjinx you only spent four dollars to see it?? My friends have seen it four times and around here it hasn't been offered in a matinee yet...so they're spending 9 dollars each time they see it...it's ridiculous.

Well, I understand you don't like the movie.
But, evidently there are many of us that did like it.
Again, it was a um that asked me to take her, and I really enjoyed it.

But then again, I will always be one of the young at heart.

Well, until I went to see it I had not heard of the movie, or the books.
I was literally the woman off the street taking her niece to see it.
It is a great movie for the target audience, it was tasteful and there was no
sex, blood or nudity.
But guess what? The target audience does not need to see all that!
The movie did for me, what I want a movie to do.
It entertained me, and I enjoyed it.
I would not recommend this for the "adults" but for the young at heart.
[;)]   I look forward to the "Twilight" sequel movies!
I will skip reading the book.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/11/2008 7:50:22 PM)

I won't be going to the movies to see it , as I personally detest going to theaters. I'll be waiting for it to come out on DVD. However in the mean time I will be reading the books

Okay, I rarely go to the movies, but one of my favorite
um's asked me to go see Twilight with her.
We went to the Borders next door prior to the movie, and
I was surprised at all of the "Twilight" books, posters, pendants,
rings, and assorted paraphernalia.

I loved the movie!
I think I enjoyed it more than she did, or at least as much!

I enjoyed the plot, the characters, the special effects, and
the suspense factor.
I am giving "Twilight", 3 thumbs up and a bag of chips!

But then, I have always enjoyed films that are a bit dark.
I did see a vampire book at Borders I plan to go back and buy.[:D]
If you enjoy vampires and vampire movies, you might consider
seeing it.

The writer is Mormon, and I believe that there was no premarital sex, but I don't think the books actually touch on Mormonism.

LKH lost me with the sex.  Don't get me wrong, I love sex scenes but her plots disintegrated and I couldn't get through the books anymore.  After watching Showtime's TrueBlood, and loving it, I read the series it was based on by Charlaine Harris.  It's all about southern vampires, and fun for me as one side of my family is in N. Louisiana where the books are set.  I recommend those highly!

MzMia, there's more than one book, there's 4 of them if I am remembering correctly, and with how long it takes me to get around to some of the books sometimes, the movies will be out on DVD about the time I finish the books lol.

Plus I don't buy them I rent them from the library, and the twilight books are VERY popular right now. You're talking about a 200 to 300 person waiting list iwth you being on the bottom of the 200 to 300 who want it.

*whispers to everyone...*

There is another series that isn't half as mushy....and much more sexy...

It's called "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" and it's steamy!

I think there are 6 books out now...  They're hidden in the "Romantic" section of the book store...there is even one with some BDSM...

Happy reading!

soul2share -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/11/2008 9:17:32 PM)

I've only read the first one...at the urging of 2 or 3 co-workers......I already follow a couple of authors/series books....I really didn't need one more....{sigh}....but I'm off in search of the second, third and fourth ones.....movies are NEVER the same as the books if the author doesn't have any say in the screenplay...now, I haven't seen the credits, so I don't know if the author had any say, but I never expect the movie and book to be the same.  If I do, I usually end up disappointed in the movie.

I may wait for the dvd to come out...but if I have a couple of hours to kill, I may go see the movie....depends on my mood!

Ms Mia...give the books a whirl...at least the first one was good.....like the movie, it entertained me....it does start out a little slow, but ended up pretty good.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (12/11/2008 9:19:33 PM)

I LOVED the sex scenes in LKH. It really spurred on some great fantasies and makes me regret that certain sexual activities are not feasable due to our size and such, that and some stuff is just pure and plain fantasy and not humanly possible.

Mz Mia,
I'm glad you liked the movie, and someone who hadn't read the books and was entertained purely for the sake of being what it was it's refreshing to hear.

CharmedAnne -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (1/1/2009 10:35:58 PM)

There is sex in the serise but it comes in book four. Which the concequences of the sex is the major plot line for that book. I enjoyed the books, did I start reading them expecting some great work of literature, no. I expected alot of teen angst and I am an evil vampire but I really wish I were good. That is exactly what I got. The LKH and Anne Rice works are great but intended for a much older audience. The books/movies are being compared to Harry Potter and are run by the same age group. I really enjoyed twilight, the books more than the movie. I especially loved how dominating Edward was.

Just my thoughts-
Anne

You must not have read the book. I don't know anyone who read the book and then enjoyed the movie.

I agree. We have the whole series here and have read and re-read them numerous times. The books were excellent. Neither myself nor the teenager thought the movie was worth seeing [:(]

JustDarkness -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (1/2/2009 1:38:18 AM)

- the most epic romance since Titanic-
http://www.twilightthemovie.com/

Vampires....Titanic....the connection...says enough....lol
might peek at it anyway when I find it...in general I watch anything close to "horror"

Perhaps..just the book..as adviced above..

cravesdom -> RE: I went to see Twilight yesterday, loved it!! (1/2/2009 2:04:03 AM)

I read all the books and loved them. They were easy to read and entertaining. Plus they have two of my favorite things in them, vampires and true love. I have also seen the movie three times and loved it as well, although it was definitely a condensed and much simplified version of the first book. I took 2 of my munchkins to the movie, one who had read the book and one who hadn't. They both loved the movie as much as I did. We are already looking forward to the 2nd movie. I just hope they don't rush it too much trying to make the most of the first one's popularity.

Just to put it in perspective, I also loved all the Harry Potter books and movies so far, everything by LKH, and True Blood (the series, I have yet to read the book it was based on although it is on my list). Now I have to add the Black Dagger Brotherhood to my list too! Thanks KneelforAnne!
