Hello ladies,
I need some design advice. This summer (hopefully) I plan to start building my dream cabin out in the country using the short log and timber frame method. Currently I do have a river rock basement planned. I also have designed two things - 1) an oversized 4 poster bed that will support all activities (pull out massage table, cage disguesd as dog kennel (don't want too many questions from little ones or freinds),  pull down St. Andrews cross, etc), and 2) an oversized tack room in the stable that will be set up for play.

I could add a river rock dungeon but it would take an extra month or so to build. So my questions are: 1) How much of a turn on would it be to actually have a dungeon? 2) What is a reasonable size? and 3) What would you want in there?

Thanks

That sounds absolutely wonderful! I'm a person who gets cold easily, so a warm floor (carpet?) and a way to heat the area would be what's on my mind.

I assume you are a dominant so I am going to ask you whether or not it would be a turn on for YOU to have said dungeon? The activities you wish to do will determine what size it needs to be and what you want in it.

At least that's how it works with me and my world.

Got to have extenders bars, Sir.  Oh, and a collection of floggers.

Sorry,  the sub in me just fell in love of the idea of a river rock dungeon.  If possible, have a locking closet where you can have the cross roll out (casters should be locking), as well as the kennel on wheels.

Mistress uses a clothesline T for punishment, so one made of 4x4s and rolling is a good  idea as well.

excuse me, I think I need Master to dole out some punishment online...

underfloor heating.  you can put that under hardwood floors or tile.  a hard floor with mats to put on it cleans easier than carpeting.

you dont EXPECT to get a carpet dirty, but you never know when you're gonna knock over a bottle of lube.  or spill candlewax.  or have someone drool a lot.   or if you're dealing with women, have a menses begin unexpectedly.

kitten who knows to scrape up candlewax immediately, then use the "warm iron over paper bags" method...which still didnt remove it entirely.

It sounds absolutely amazing. I'm damp with envy. I do question, however, how often it'd get used. Would it suffer from neglect like the 'game room' or the 'room filled with plastic balls like a McDonald's playground' does? Would you actually go down and play there, or would you simply have it set up? I suppose it also depends on who you're trying to impress. If you had a permanant partner, she'd be impressed, but after the first few hundred trips down there, it'd dull. If you had play partners, or hosted parties, then that'd be perfect, because you'd have a relatively more renewable stream of partners to Wow!

All that being said, if I had the money, I absolutely would build one. Even if it was cold and damp and icky down there, and even if I had to leave the warm bedroom to go play naked and chilly, I would build it.

So my questions are: 1) How much of a turn on would it be to actually have a dungeon?

A dungeon would be a huge turn-on (actually, a basement would be a huge turn-on for me, too.)

quote:

2) What is a reasonable size?

Ummmm, big enough to put me in.  Small spaces don't bother me, which is a good thing since i spent a year sleeping on the floor of my Master's bedroom closet and would do so again if He told me to.

and

3) What would you want in there?

This one i can't answer, since i really am not used to having wants of my own.  Even when my Master asks me what i want to eat, He has to give me choices because i can't simply say, "i want ______".  Mainly, i just want whatever my Master wants me to have.  Sorry i couldn't be more helpful.  Maybe others will be able to give you some good ideas.  Still, it does sound like it will be a wonderful place.  And, actually, unless you are planning on renting the space, shouldn't you just equip it any way that suits your own tastes and interests?

Tashee – Thanks that was a great reminder. River rock at 50 degrees would be cold on the skin and feet. The bedroom that the dungeon is attached to has a fireplace and a garden room so I really had not thought about heat. (Or water. Or ice to cool the skin.) You got me thinking! Congradulations.

LaTigresse – I actually switch on the SM side of the BDSM equation because I also like pain sometimes. I’ve also been active since before I was a teen so it’s no so much what I enjoy because that has very few limits. I play at my partners limits because if I played at mine I would go to far. (not to mention that the dungeon would have to be bigger than the house.)

For instance when Tashee brought up heat and my mind jumped to a charcoal brazier with a branding iron. (Easy to do but I have to plan the venting so the sound of play won’t carry. Plus I have to vent all those candles Pixidustpet reminded me of.) I would never brand someone without a lot more practice and only if it was forever between us – even if she wanted it; but, it would be dramatic. And I personally think that branding a piece of leather with an orange hot brand right in front of a bound switch/sub/slave so that they could see the flaming smoke and smell the scent of burnt hide would be a major mind fuck! Especially, if you touched them with a piece of ice right after from a vantage point where they could not see you.

Elegantalexis – Extender bars and wall rings are planned but I’m still trying to decide if I want to hand make them out of black iron to stay in theme. I also have four floggers and several leather paddles that I hand made.

I like the locking closet idea. It might allow me to open up the space for other uses. I was planning on a St Andrews on a hinge so it can be pulled up flush with the roof, like they have at one of the local play clubs.

Pixidustpet – No carpet is right and I might be off grid so the electricity and hot water needed for the underfloor heating is out of the question. Mats sound like a good option – out of character but workable. Thanks. (I’ll look at the stable mats and see if they will work.)

ExKat (Katie) – I think it would be used for several reasons: 1) it would be off of the bedroom; 2) I switch on SM side but not the BD side (which is why it can be hard to find partners); 3) in order to live the lifestyle I want I will have to partner with another couple or group because travel and having animals don’t mix and neither do extended play and having little ones; and 4) Your winning argument was hosting parties or doing a bed a breakfast deal. Extra income, extra help, and extra fun are always needed out in the country. So now I’m sold on adding it. Even if I have to add more square footage.

i know some stores have mats that are cut like puzzle pieces, a basic square with interlocking sides.  this would give you the option of having a padded floor that absorbs sound, is easily replacable, and if nothing else, you can take it out in the yard and hose the pieces down.

cork is a wonderful accoustic deadener, and will also insulate floors if you go with cork floor tiles.  if you've never been in an accoustically sound room, its a bit of a mindfuck to NOT have the slight echoes that most rooms with hard walls have.  it gives you the sensation that you constantly need to "pop" your ears too.

Slavegirljoy – Thanks. I think big enough to sleep in is a little small but that is what the cage under the bed is for.

A friend was spying on me earlier and emailed me directly with a suggestion as to size. That I liked – she said to make it big enough to put a wrestling mat in. (She switches and likes to watch live nude wrestling. I like to wrestle ;-) She even tried to bribe me by saying I could have the one who lost – promises, promises!) So right now I’m thinking somewhere around 14’x16’ as I found some nice mats that are 12’x12’ and role up.

Plus – she sent this link http://saroftreve.com/workshop/projects.shtml Lots of fun just waiting for a craftsman. And begged - Please, Please, Please! I'm a sucker for a woman who - begs, welts, and wields.

Pixidustpet – Now you’ve got me thinking of sensory deprivation tank ;-)

I think it is an excellent idea if you want to host every party you will ever attend for the rest of your life.  people are going to like it.  That is why they pay monthly to attend dungeons.  Most people don't have privacy to play the way they would like to play.

So, are you an entertainer?

As for a sub or slave well I would assume it would be great in the beginning but depending on the type of play it may become a place to be avoided and dreaded.  It's all in what you make it.

Figure about 20 people size...that way you can also do demo's in said dungeon.

A bedroom dungeon, with roll out, underbed, bed attached and hidden as furniture peices sounds like a great convience when you and a partern play - maybe even you and a 2 partners or you and one partner and one playmate.
However, I don't know what your likes and dislikes are - but we like parties. We play alot, just the two of us - or the two of us and a guest, but - we really like parties, too.
a dozen couples, gathered around your bedroom while someone tries to flog their s-type on the pop up, attached to the bed cross - now, that does NOT sound like fun.
If you like to have parties, I think a river rock dungeon would get PLENTY of use. And, if you are in the process of searching, it is going to sound AWESOME on a profile - you should make yourself a webpage with pics!

sub4hire - Not sure if there will be space for 20 people. I was planning an auxiliary bedroom off of the master for guests or a nanny but now that will be the dungeon and the guest’s bedroom will be upstairs. It was planned at 13' x 14' so I'll have to either add a few feet to the homes length of reduce my office space to get the 16'x14'. However, I think there will be plenty of room in the master bedroom as current plans call for a 20' by 30' space with room for: the special bed I'm building, a small dance floor and pole, and a fireplace with sheepskin rugs. (That space does not include the closet and bathroom.)

tsatske - I planned a Murphy bed in the master. Not for guests but because I hate having a really great session were you get to the end and the sheets are soaked with sweat and other fluids and you're so tired you really don't want to change bedding but you don't want to sleep in a puddle either. LOL

I like parties but I don't think I'll have time to plan and set them up; maybe, who I end up with will. I do like to travel though and I've seem those you borrow our house and we'll borrow yours. I wonder if they have anything like that for lifestylers?

You referring to a house swap situation?  There can be a 'market' for that, I bet.

Love the idea of the heating! naked slaves get cold fast! I assume You have a slave already? The important questions are what are Your biggest kinks and what are your slaves biggest kinks? Don't forget a convenient place to wash up nearby....you might not want people tracking messes through your house to get to the shower.

i'm not really into the whole dungeon thing myself; it's too cold,  dreary looking and/or feeling that puts me into a blah sort of mood.  i prefer a warmer feeling room that's set up for play;  it's like comfort food to me and makes me feel at home instead, thus more able to enjoy the outcome of play...

then again, an occassional cold/heartless feeling room is just what the doctor ordered for some serious, objectification scening or some serious s/m torture sessions

Keep in mind people will want to be playing in your master bedroom to.  So, you're either going to have to make it off limits...or allow people in and somehow secure everything you want to keep.

People steal.

You could always use a network of pipes under the floor of said dungeon room, that come off of the hot water tank.  I saw this on the DIY network or some such place.  Another option to keep toes warm, would be to use Pergo for the floor.  I have this all up in my kitchen, through the dining area, into the hall and in one bedroom.  It tends to keep the heat in better than tile, is super easy to clean, and now comes in better colors than the blonde mess on my floor.  Other than the color, my only bitch with the Pergo is that Beavis & Butthead laid down this floor, after smoking a big fat joint I'm sure, and it needs some help.

Mmmm, dungeon, I totally have dungeon-envy now, we can't have one here "the water table is too high" according to the realtor.  Dammit!

3) What would you want in there?
First off, central heating, with vents up high on each wall and also at the floor boards, this would enable heat to move about. Can easily be installed, just do it before you start to install the floor. The reason girl suggests the central heating is because while building it has an auxiliary use, you could use it as a forge and if you have pig iron anvil, you could learn to make anything out of iron.
River rock basement, would mean you have free moving water on your land? If so, have you thought of building a mill house, that way you could have the mill wheel to slowly pump water into your cabin, and since central heating is already there, have metal pipes around the furnace, that way the heat is still used to give you hot water.

Two elements often used in the making infernal machines: blacksmithing and moving water to give motion to certain infernal devices.

2) What is a reasonable size?
The size of your dungeon would be determined by the perimeter of your cabin's footprint. Just remember that for every 12 feet, you need added support beam and central post. Which of course could have other uses.

1) How much of a turn on would it be to actually have a dungeon?
Very much a turn on to some, but probably not for everyone.
