Here we go....Fox is GOP tv....well, Fox only looks right leaning because all the others lean so far left.  The truth is, Fox offers both sides a voice, and if you look at any program over a week's time, they will have equal numbers of left and right leaners.  You just won't do that with MSNBC, CNN, or any of the networks.  You are welcome to spew the "right wing tv" montra all you want, but you are just kidding yourself.

so then, which sources do you trust?

since of course, I have nothing else better to do than prove to you what I've said, even though you could just as easily go look yourself.... just wondering what it might take, who it might take to say it, for you to maybe take the debate seriously?

but then I would suspect that I'm dealing here with a case of not wanting to know and a notion that I'm knocking the US by knocking Bush; I distinguish very much between the two and so ought everyone to. he hasnt yet uttered the words "l'etat c'est moi" so there is no reason for such confusion.

Primary sources are always best. So far, you haven't provided any--just some commentary from the BBC, then the Times, then Newsweek, all stating as fact that the U.S supported/instigated/assisted the Ethiopian invasion. Did I miss something or do your sources have zero reference to specific people within either the Ethiopian government or the Bush administration in a position to comment knowledgeably on the issue?

Here is a quote from the same link, talking to the Ethiopian president. Its on page 2 or 3.

< How much direct financial support has Ethiopia received from the United States to help pay for this intervention?
Zero. >

The section of the link you quoted claims the US were backing a coalition of warlords before the Islamist intervention, which is true. Thats not the same as financing an Ethiopian invasion.

Its quite ironic that in the early seventies the Soviets supported Somalia and the US Ethiopia. Then in the late 70s they swithced, with Ethiopia being supported by Russia and obtaining most of the weaponry from North Korea. I am guessing this is where the tanks captured by the priates were headed.

If a million of those assholes starve to death in Somalia that'll be a good Christmas present compliments of "Allah."
Shit, I'll go down to the Texas Roadhouse to celebrate with a big prime rib!
"God is great! Now pass the fuckin' rattlesnake jalipeno poppers!"
"Hey waitress! When you guys doing the Cotton Eye Joe?"

Thats true, but it also applies when knocking Obama. My problem with either tactic it partisan press articles being used to prove a point, while avoiding facts. The quote from the Ethiopian president in the Newsweek article must count as a primary source though.

Did you enjoy your sleep during the Clinton administration? Gimme a break...Somalia was a major embarrasment for Billy and left on the table for George Bush.

You are expecting people to think beyond the end of their nose instead of letting themselves be lead around by it. Most of the people who dislike Bush are simply listening to the liberal media.

Note that these same people worship Obama despite the fact that he is starting to follow the same policies as Bush has done; no withdrawal from Iraq, similar policy on Guantanamo Bay detainees, and similar tax policy. Yet this is being labeled as changed instead of business as usual.

Who would have thought?

I'm sorry you didnt read the links CL Ethiopia's prime minister discusses how the U.S. helped his country oust the Islamists from Mogadishu. This the headline for the Newsweek article. If you read the other articles you will see that US forces and resources assisted the invasion, including a warship and satellite surveillance.

Im not American, but i assume the new regime cant actually change anything until they take office. The point about being led around by the nose may apply to both sides equally, I would have thought.

Don't you think Ethiopia could have instigated the invasion to remove Islamic rule on their borders considering their problems with an Islamic minority in their country..Then asked Bush for help..I think that is the case...I don't believe Bush told the Ethiopians to invade.

Reading your links...thanks for finding them for me... supports my theory as much as yours.

Lady E...these were not just "islamists"...but "Taliban radical Islamists" who were seeking to bring an Afganistan like rule to Somalia.  I don't think one has to go through the record of Taliban excesses in curbing civil rights, particularly for women.  Somalia is a mess today...but even as you pointed out...it's been this way forever it seems, and my point here is that it's not just a "Bush thing"....dont't you agree?

LadyEllen -> RE: Somalia - another Bush legacy (12/5/2008 1:41:35 AM)

It is possible Butch, but it more than fits the MO for the Bush regime.

When one considers the overstretch for the US forces and the prior experience in Somalia (interesting to read one of the criminal warlords is a former US marine?), it is very unlikely the US should have taken action to deny the country to Islamics on its own account.
