I would help stuff that benifited needy and abused children, and I would help out people who really loved their pet but fall on hard times and can't pay their animals bills since I have been there many times and it's heartbreaking to look at the vet and tell her I can not afford the 200 dollar costs of his needs

. I would also give to the rescue organizations who pay the medical bills to get injured dogs up to snuff to adopt. I'd also pick one or two deserving families a month and pay their adoption fee's and the first year of pet care.

You've heard the saying "charity begins at home"?  That's where I tend to keep my charitable donations when it comes to Cash - helping out my friends who have problems, rather than any of the big organizations.  When it comes to Goods, I've been known to do things like donate several dozen bars of natural soap at a time to one of the local womens' shelters.  They're chronically short on funding to buy basic essentials, and that relieves them of both the need for that essential and the need to spend the time allocating and spending the money - none wasted on "administration" that way either.

It's hard to say what might change if I had a literally endless supply of money.  I've so seldom been in a position where I had any funds that weren't already allocated to things in my own life, or the lives of my close friends who were in need, that it's not something I've given much thought to.

Yes. I have heard that saying, and I already do pretty much help out friends and family even sometimes to the point where I can't afford anything for myself, which I stopped doing cause if I help you so much I am in the pit, it doesn't do any one any good.

Homeless shelters, the Red Cross and The Minutemen.
Also, I'd help a lot of individuals too.

I'd pay off my friends and family's debts, and give them some; than I would look into One campaign, and several funds that care for uhms in the world.   M

There is a charity that helps with vet bills called imom.org - the lady who started it started it because her dog could have been saved if she had the money.  Unfortunately they, like most charities these days, have way more people asking for help than they can possibly ever help.

If I had an endless supply of money I would buy a big piece of land somewhere land is cheap (below the Mason Dixon line, natch) and build a huge no-kill shelter.  Since I don't have an endless supply of money I will still do the same thing, but much more slowly:)

If I had a truly endless supply of money, I'd first help those close to me (family & friends), then I would concentrate on the working poor (those who work their asses off at two and sometimes three jobs and still barely afford to keep a roof over their heads & enough food in their stomachs).  I've always had a soft spot for the Goodfellows  and anything that really helps UMs.  After these, with an endless supply of money, why not help every single worthy charity all over the world?

I would start my own charity--the CelticLord Shelter for Unowned Slaves.

I'd help troubled financial institutions and lenders first. They are so deserving and do so much for so many. Oh, wait, that is already being done, and by someone with an endless suplly of money.

Seriously, do you really mean an endless supply of money? If so then I'd give it out to just about one at this point.

I would avoid big organizations like the Red Cross like the plague. After seeing how horribly mismanaged and wasteful they are, no way will I ever give them another penny.

My charities are almost always geared towards children. If I had an unlimited supply of money, creating organizations that actually benefit disadvantaged children here in the US would be at the top of my list. Creating a farm camp, for troubled city kids that have nothing to do but get into trouble. Teach them about the world away from the computer, video games and the television set. What physical labour is. How to grow and prepare food that doesn't come from a can, bag, box, freezer case...or a fast food joint. How to treat animals, therefor other people. That for every action, there really is a consequence. Whether it is good or bad.

In addition, better farming. Better food for human consumption through a wider diversification of food crops grown, rather than just our current corn and soybeans. Healthier meat products, etc. We have a world famous ag school here in Iowa, I would love to provide some of those students with a working farm to try and make some of the above practices financially feasible for a real farmer.

And an old or unwanted, slaves home!

Seriously, I know that sounds cheesy but I have a friend that is terrified of getting older and being useless as a slave. Being a slave has been her life. She should have a place to go, if she ever needs it, that feels safe and understands her life. Someplace she can still feel valued and useful, even if she cannot do the things she did at age 25.

Oh, and while it seems cold and heartless, there is very good reasoning for me to say........most of my family wouldn't see much of it at all. Think "Lottery Syndrome". Big money would be the worst possible thing to happen to most people.

I would start my own that concentrated on better education, job training, and such for the lower income areas. Education can fight so many things, and it is the number 1 weapon to use against poverty and crime. The charity would be a local one, as I believe that the citizens of a community have a responsibility to their local community first, moving slowly outward.

I think I would help the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and the shelters for Women and Children here locally.
I had to go to a mall the other evening(my first trip to one in at least a year) and at the entrance was member of the Salvation Army with his kettle, his bell and playing a trombone. Made me feel good to know that those people are still there and the trombone reminded me of when I was a kid and we'd go "downtown" and they would be in front of each dept. store playing music and collecting money. I really hate malls!...I miss the downtown department stores of my childhood and the windows all decorated for the season, the bell ringers, the decorations and the stores that always seemed so HUGE....

But I like the way I think, I would start many businesses, among them self funded charities, I mean no donations needed. With truly unlimited funds, we could do more than the suits that run the organized charities of today.

Unlimited funds ? A truly superior school, one where the only entrance requirements are aptitude and good behavior. Business that will operate breaking even for a time, that will turn a profit in the future after the mess is cleaned up from these so-called economists.

On other words, I would have a direct hand in it.

Hmmmm, this kinda hints at another slant on this bailout situation doesn't it ?

Until five years ago, I gave 20 to 25k away every year, from Thanksgiving dinners,, toys, trees, shoes and clothing, paid rent, light bills, little did I know that the world for me would change so much, lose my job, home by the ocean and end up in a trailer park in Arizona, But I would noy change a thing, It was worth every penny spent.

Welllllllll, quite honestly, my first choice is one that is 'unable' to accept 'charitable donations' ( the local school system here  ), outside of that though I would start with the local FOP, then move on to state law enforcement agencies, the fire dept's, the hospitals, hospice, animal shelter/rescue ( of all kinds, small/large/domestic/wild ). One of my favorite charities that I would include is the Make a Wish Foundation. We also have a local agency here for the prevention of teenage pregnancy which utilizes teenage volunteers who offer to 'be a parent for a day' for families who can't afford child care. It's a fantastic organization and it really helps teenagers understand what being a parent really means.

After all that, I guess I would look around at the bigger charities like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Term, good points

Definitely a school, but I would create companies that would be mass producing various ecofriendly energy sources, as well as the high tech items that are not yet in the public market, because of the cost of production.

This would include solar power systems, wind power systems, aerospace research, including non polluting aircraft engines, as well as nonpolluting automobiles with maximum speeds over 200 (sorry, I am an old school hotrodder)

Some little known charity that needs money.  Nothing large like the Red Cross or Salvation Army.
I was on the board of a YWCA in California at one time.  The executive director whined we had no money for
programs..etc.  All the while she was banking 78 an hour.  It took me two years but I got her out of her position.

Large charities have too much money to begin with.  It's mismanaged.  So it would go to those who really need it.
