Until you feel ready to deal with another tattoo. There are no fast and set rules here. You want it gone now? Call up your ink artist and make an appointment.

And next time keep this in mind, because most relationships don't last and eventually you will be left with a mark you regret.

Just read your blogs. By what I read, whatever ya had going must've been exciting at first, but quickly became a nightmare. From what ya described, He didn't seem to care for ya much, just more used and abused you, til He got bored of it. I think the sooner ya can find away to get rid of His mark the sooner the healing can begin for sure.

I'd probably ignore it.  Considering the upheaval you've been through, it'd be the least of my problems for a goodly while.

OR, if it makes you feel better....you can hot-foot it down to the tattooist and get it covered up/transformed.

You don't have to link your 'independance' with the tattoo at all.

I wear my former owner's insignia tattooed on my hip. He released me 4 months ago. Like you, I immediately wanted to scrape that thing off of me. I was hurt, angry, resentful and confused. On the plus side, our tattoos are in places where we can't readily see them on a daily basis!

A friend told me to give it some time before I remove it. I didn't want to! But, like agirl has said, removing a tattoo is the least of one's worries when trying to heal and get on with life. Since I'm no longer filled with anger, I see the mark now as a symbol of what was - an amazing experience from which I grew immensely, thanks to his leadership and my effort. I don't think about the mark very much right now. He and I talked just last night about it - he is convinced (more like he wants) that I'll keep it because of what it represents. My answer was "Time will tell."

Don't let a physical object (or mark) prevent you from being who you are about to become. You can do other things to claim your life back - if he owned your orgasms, give yourself one regularly. Make your own decisions. Hold your head up and embrace life. Pamper yourself and be gentle with yourself. Remember to breathe (I forgot about that little necessity a lot). Learn to let go of anger, as it is a roadblock in your own growth and has no effect on him. But I advise you not to take any knee jerk action. It will all fall into place as it should...patience, while difficult, will have the answers you need coming to you when the time is right to receive them.

I do wish you the best.

Reminds me of a friend.  He felt confident enough after 30 years of marriage to get his wife's name tattooed on himself.  They were divorced at 31 years.

I view tattoos as symbols of the most important event that happened to me in the past year.  He was an important part of your life for a time and so should not be forgotten.  Lessons from the relationship should be remembered and applied to any future relationships.

Forget you have the tattoo....or have it covered up...your choice.  You do what you need to do so that you can proceed with your own life.

I won't allow anyone to mark me with a tatoo or brand until we've been together over 7 years. Even then i would not be keen on it being thier name.

When Master and I reach the 7 - 10 year area i could see looking into getting something that means something to the two of us.

Ah, a dilemma indeed. This is a classic example why I don't suggest people get marked so specifically, as psychologically delicious as it may seem at the moment.

I have always enjoyed the idea of a small esoteric symbol instead. It's less overt and usually takes up less real estate on the skin. It's also easier to "cover up with foliage". A simple symbol placed thoughtfully converts well to a strike or cautery brand, too.

Personally, I wouldn't do anything yet. "Masterbob" may be in your life again. Better to be sure the release is final.

First you need to do seven years' penance for failing to live up to his expectations.

Then you need to undergo another seven years' spiritual purification to regain your twue slave nature.

Only then can you allow your next Master to use coarse sand to grind off your previous Master's mark.

I would never get someone's mark put on me, so this is going to be hypothetical.  If I were in your situation, I would go out immediately and talk to a tattoo artist or three and see what they could do to artistically cover it up and make it into something else....something representative of my tastes...something that I would enjoy seeing there.  Getting his name off my body would represent the first step towards my independence.  But I can appreciate that it wouldn't be everyone's priority in the same circumstances.

At any rate, I wouldn't concern myself with some imagined sense of protocol in such a case, I'd do whatever felt right to me.

You've been released, this means that you are now independent.

Only names I'd ever get inked into my body would be my children (if I ever have them) or maybe one of those MOM tattoos. No partner is getting their name forever printed on me, I don't care if it's been ten or twenty years.

Though I don't see what this has to to with your title on protocol. You get it removed whenever you want. You do whatever you want. If you're single and free then just be you.

greetings to all,

When I got my Master's mark tattooed on me, I knew that it would be permanent, and would never be able to be erased.  This is an incredibly beautiful thing.  Forever, his mark will remind me that I belong (or belonged, should we get divorced) to an incredible individual, one who teaches (or taught) me things, and mindsets, that I would not have learned otherwise.  I see my skin as a canvas for all the journeys that I have taken, and the ones that I continue to take, in my life (along with the tattoos, I am covered in small scars, from my retired piercings, stretch marks from my battles with my weight, and deep "tiger stripes" from having my daughter (which I doubt, even laser treatments would fix).  Each and every imperfection is perfect to me).  I would see your tattoo as a memoir of the lessons you have learned, get start-end dates tattooed beneath it, and love it for being a part of your soul's journey.

Anyway, this is just my 2 cents!

well wishes,

"I have been released"...why not explain it as a spiritual release? A release from the bonds and burdens of the world, a release from your spiritual confusion and doubts and a release from your old concepts and mindsets....just a thought.

Next time take a little thought and time before taking such a huge step in a relationship. There's no rush.

When do you think you may wish to be rid of it?  Do you have the financial ability to achieve your timeframe or a plan to get the finances in as close a timeframe to that which you desire?
