I reported it as a threat...but maybe I shouldn't have? Is it considered a threat? Will I get in trouble for making a false report? >.<

Hon with the world the way it is I see you have done nothing wrong if we think about the girl that killed herself because of the woman and her kid that drove her to it online. They need taken down and taken off the web as far as I am concerned don't want to read that you were a victim of that too. You were brave to do so and I applaude you, someone that is so submissive they will do anything when prevoked enough might have done that after awhile if told too over and over again, so don't worry. I wouldn't consider it a threat.  Unless they hand you a gun in the same breath.

It is really only a threat if they say they are coming to your house and <insert threat here>.  But thats my opinion.  The TOS is your friend.  I always go to it when I have a question along those lines.

Even then it technically isn't a threat, merely a suggestion.

My suggestion would be to ignore such a suggestion. And if they do hand you the gun, test it on them before you do anything else.

Exactly.  It's all in the context. On here, I would just laugh and move on, anything else is just creating drama where none is needed. Similarly if someone, like my sister-in-law that is mad at me, said it. I would laugh and reply with something like "keep dreaming!!"

Now, if they are trying to put the gun in your hand and pointing it at you......That would be a threat.

TOS = Terms of service.  Every social network has a TOS and it spells out what they will and will not tolerate.  Go to the cm side and look at the bottom for a link, as well as the bottom here.

Okay, i think i read this wrong lol i thought you meant like report it to the police. So if i read it right lol see below:

You can make any type of police report as long as what you report is true and you somehow felt it should be investigated by the police.  A report is not a complaint nor is it an indication that someone committed a crime.  Its simply what it is an incident report where someone felt the police needed to look into.  Sometimes they turn into complaints with an arrest, sometimes well many times they do not.

A false police report is when someone gives false information or attempts to use the police and the criminal system to harass someone when they had no intention of ever following through -- when i worked for the State's Attorney office a long time ago, many times DV victims would be threatened with being cited for filing a false police report if they didn't testify when there was an arrest.  It sounds cruel but many times DV cases were only able to be prosecuted BECUASE of the victims testimony.  i think its a lil different now.

I personally wouldn't see somone telling someone to go shoot themselves as a threat.  What did the PD say when you filed the report and what led up to someone saying something like that to you in such a way?  All in all, if you feel threatened then you did the right thing.  If you simply are tryng to get back at the person who said this to you as a vendetta concept -- no to me it isn't cool.

If you meant reporting it here:

It depends really.  But yeah the TOS should be your guide.  When in doubt, report it, worse come to worse they will say -- no we don't see this as a threat just block the person.  I wouldn't see that as a threat.  You are an adult if you are on this site, you should not in my opinion be that susceptible to people saying such a thing to you.  The block feature is great.

When i saw false report and then someone else speaking of cyber bullying of teens, i in my attorney-oriented mind lol thought you meant report it to the police.  I edited my post while you were posting you meant you reported it here.

It's not exactly a threat, but it could be considered a misuse of the service.  It's a reportable offense particularly if they repeatedly harrass you, but don't take it to heart hunni.

This sounds just like in the real world where people tell us to fuck off and we say ok without feeling threatened. For me a threat would be someone saying they was going to do something not telling me to do something to myself. Also they could have phrased it like a question i.e. "Why don’t you fuck off?" and I would say I'm not fucking off because I don't want to at this juncture.

To cut a long story short no and no.

Legally a threat?  No.......

Merely a suggestion?  Yeah, maybe, but what the hell...block 'em and move on.

Worth filing a police report over?  Puh-leeeze, the cops have enough to deal with!
