I think there is NO appropriate answer for this. Marriage means different things to different people, as does the relationship between master and slave. For some, these can co-exist. For others, it's better if they do not.

Personally, for me and mine (whoever that may be, since I'm currently unattached), the only hurdle I see that might prevent me from marrying my slave is the possibility I may own more than one. Since polygamy is illegal in this country, marrying one slave would mean giving her a special status that the other slave(s) do not have. I'm not sure that's a good thing to do. I should add, I'm not sure it's NOT a good thing either.

At the moment, it's not something I have to worry about. And no matter what I should decide, my choice may be right for me, and wrong for others. If you're considering this yourself, weigh pros and cons and make the decision that's right for you. It matters not even a little bit whether its right for anyone but you and yours.

I have not found one valid reason to ever marry a slave. The insurance, the whole medical, the "security",. well, that is all well and fine if you never, EVER want a second (or more) slave. You can't marry the second slave, so why marry the first?

With contracts you can set up a marriage so the slave is never given anything, BUT...how well do you trust the courts of this or another country to all of a sudden twist something?

Marriages last 50% of the time (general term these days), and keeping a slave can last a great deal less, most slaves are in servatude for only a short time, 2-5 years, though there are a few that can make it a lifetime.

I personally will never marry a slave and will never have a reason to make her equal in the states eyes to me.
