All the dogs make me miss my old mutt...he whined when we'd go for a car ride and the car went in reverse.

About 20 years ago we bought an appaloosa mare that was pregnant.  A few months later we had a great looking appaloosa colt.  He was born on a very stormy night, and so was named Stormy, which definitely matched his personality.  He had a lot of quirks and even more personality, and very few fears of anything.  He did a lot of things that weren't exactly "horse-like".  One was that he enjoyed bumping and chasing beach balls.  Unfortunately they didn't last long.  Another of his favorite "games" involved one of those orange construction cones.  He loved picking that up in his mouth, tossing it in the air, then turning and trying to kick it with his back feet as it came down.

Just this morning I had waffles for breakfast.  Afterwards, I set the plate beside me on the couch.  Not a few moments later my cat comes bounding into the room and leaps up onto the couch.... and lands right on the plate covered in sticky syrup.  The "What the Hell" look on her face as she tried simultaneously to figure out a) what was this stuff, b) was she in trouble, and c) how to react was hilarious.  Fortunately I have hardwood floors so the sticky paw prints weren't hard to clean up as she hid in the corner to give herself a bath.

That reminds me of an old wives trick when you have to move a cat into a new home.  Smear butter all over their fur.  Seriously.  They will be so busy cleaning themselves for a week or so that they will forget about feeling out of sorts in the new place.

A couple months ago my cat, as usual, was tearing around the house just being a psycho. He usually runs somewhere, freezes, and as soon as I look at him he'll make a weird chirping noise and bolt away. This particular time he froze while standing on top of a plastic bag and decided to do some sort of roll before he took off again. While rolling he managed to stick his tail through one handle of the bag and his front leg through the other... when he got up he must not have realized what had happened and when he started running again he was scared so badly by the bag that he screamed and I had to chase him down for about 5 minutes before he'd stop running in terror. It was hard trying to catch him, too, cause I was nearly peeing myself laughing at his dumb ass.

He's also managed to roll himself up in our rug and started yelling for help to get out.

Ginger climbed onto my dad's bed and was sound asleep while every one else in the family was outside.

Watching her pl ay with my dad really makes me laugh.

The monster puppy loves   LOVES   to play frisbee, self taught, and jumps up to get them and bring them back (I always have 2 so that she stays busy).
The first 2 I bought weren't exactly the same size and she quickly (by accident) found out that one fit inside the other when I tossed the 2nd one out before picking up the first one.
She placed the smaller one inside the larger one and picked up both frisbees and off she ran away.
Funniest dog I have ever had, she is a mutt.

Ginger gets VERY aggressive when she plays and if you;ve worked her up, well one time she bit my hand and it hurt really bad so I hollerd OW GINGER THAT HURT, and She immediatly lost all interest in playing and wanted to kiss mommy and make up.

If you show any signs of pain, she wants to come to you strait away and kiss it all better, one night my mom cried out cause a bad bad charley horse, and Ginger was in there in minutes flying over the edge of the very tall bed, and pawing at my mom and whineing at her.

She's a very sweet dog, and if she's hurt you on accident she knows that was bad and will make up right away.

She knows better than to nip or bite and one night james was annoying her so she nipped at him, then she got this look like oh shit I know better and was begging forgiveness* all though personally I think if you're agrivating them you deserve a lil nip*

Now you all have me thinking of all the dogs in my life and all they did.  The chasing animals on the tv and not understanding where they went.. the lion jumping toward the camera and the dog looking above our heads for it going overhead.  The phones and such hidden in the sofa and not finding them until someone called.  The guilt of getting into something they knew they shouldn't and that shame! lol  The times we had only girl dogs that would do that dominant hump and the ex saying... oh great... a psycho dog and now they are all gay! (he wanted puppied one day)

But my sable collie... she did more than the fun stuff... she was a communicator like lassie and that dog understood about my illness and pain.  I didn't notice it until I saw her play with others.  With me, we tugged on the rope and such and had fun when I could, but one day I saw her play with my son...omg!  She drug him across the room!  She was being gentle with me because somehow she knew... god I miss that dog!

I have had a few Dogs that were notably funny..
Bren the wonder collie who could not figure out how to go down stairs or down hills without tumbling ass over tea kettle
Morticia the rottweiler to whom anything that fell in her bowl was food and came up one day with the head of a 6 week old kitten sticking out of her mouth with a look on her face going..Ummm am I supposed to eat this?
Apache Wind the Wolf Hybrid puppy who went swimming in the bay and came back with a dead chicken with all it's feathers on it (don't ask me where he found it or why a chicken was in the bay) but the Best were the cats..

In'thig for example..the product of someones prize Persian and a back alley panther who discovered one day that he had male organs. He was leaning back cleaning his belly when he noticed a little pink "worm" sitting up and wiggling at him (first time)..he watched it with the intensity of the born hunter..slowly, carefully raising his paw, while pretending to continue washing his belly and then struck! Only cat I have ever seen emulate the cartoon cats as he screamed, ricocheted off the ceiling and raced for cover.

Morgana a rescue. I caught some kids bashing her against a wall one day and grabbed her away from them. well with vet care she survived but tha cat was never right. She could fall asleep in mid step, fell off of everything she slept on except the couch and had the survival instincts of a brick. I was heating a cast iron skillet on the stove top one day to make supper and she fell asleep in the skillet, fell asleep once walking across the stove, face first into the gas flame. The worst was the day I pre-heated the oven, opened it, turned around to pick up the roasting pan and turned back to find her climbing in for a nap. She barely made it to old age

Of the dogs Standouts included:
Milo a Rat Terrier who was determined to eat people food no matter what it was. We had tried the campbells southwestern soup and found it not to our taste. He however liked it, even though he ran between food bowl and water dish..3 laps soup, 6 laps water until it was finished.

Cody (skipperkee) and Carrie (akita) who double teamed buzzards. Cody would pretend to be dead until the buzzard would start to come down (unlike vultures they will hunt small animals) and Carrie would stay in hiding until they were low enough and jump out chasing them. You could see them laughing about it. When Carrie passed (heart attack), Cody pined until he followed her 6 months later. Don't ever let anyone tell you that animals feel nothing

Komodo who makes grown men and women wince when he emulates a bearskin rug by laying with all four limbs 90 degrees to his body and his chin, belly and groin flat on the floor. Ko has an interesting sense of humor..he knows just how big he is and is well aware that he can be intimidating without even trying. We have some kids around here who are not the sharpest tools in the shed since they seem to think that if it ain't a pit bull it is ok to throw things at a dog and tease them. Ko will put up with it for a while then walks over to the fence and instead of jumping it, which he can do without trying begins to climb it like a ladder, the entire time smiling to show off his pretty teeth and barking. He has no intention on actually doing anything to them and you can hear him laugh (a chuffing sound) as he drops back into the yard when they run off. He has a small collection of thrown objects that he plays with. Akitas are not known for playing fetch, so if you throw somethng for Komodo he will chase it but not bring it back..he will instead stand next to it, examine it closely then look at you as if to say..well..come get it if you want it are you sure you meant to throw it away?

I leave the toilet seat up because one of my kittehs won't drink out of the water fountain.....apparently, one day, Boo got a really, really good running start, and sort of forgot that the lid was up.....I hear a SPLASH, and out comes Boo, doing that funny little walk, and he's dripping wet all the way up to his neck.......laughed my ass off!!!!

With the kittehs, there's always an opportunity for at least one belly laugh a day.....they jump up on somthing and miss, or change their mind in mid-air....they run from different rooms and meet at the junction of the walls and scare the crap out of each other.....fall off the computer monitor cuz they are so intent on what I'm doing on the screen......oh yeah....life is definitely interesting!

wolfy the bordercollie/husky mix.  he knew he wasnt supposed to be in the bedroom cause it was a no-pet zone.  so he would sit right at the doorway and stick his nose JUST in the door and whine.  he also begged for popcorn if i had some, although he didnt LIKE popcorn.  he just wanted what mama was eating.

he thought he was the cat's kitten (she thought that too).  she would make him lie down on the floor and she would groom him...of course he used to get her back, we'd get his attention and say "fetch the kitty!" as we tossed her very gently from the couch to the floor.  she'd puff up and run, he'd  chase and tackle her, growling ferociously. then he'd put on paw on her, holding her down, and give us the "well? did i do a good job?" face.

chloe was afraid of thunderstorms.  she would crawl in my lap.  chloe was a german shepherd mix.  kiara didnt get in my lap, but she did try to go under the bed.  LARGE german shepherd.  she couldnt fit her head and shoulders under, we'd just see her hindquarters quivering.  kiara also liked cats, since she was raised with them.

she'd clear the 4-foot fence like it was a flowerbed boarder.  the kitties next door would FREAK out, all they could see was a solid black blurr with large teeth....she licked them if she caught them.  never hurt them at all.  she broke 2 airline cable tieouts and a pinch collar that way.  got all excited by the cats.

sometime in feb i think we're going to be getting a kitty (or two) from the local animal shelter.  i miss having pets.

my brother's favorite thing used to be canned raviolis, so he'd put half the can into a bowl, and leave the can on the counter...

our kitty would go on a tour of the countertops soon after that, and locate the open can.

he'd then stick his head inside and when one of us would appear in the kitchen, he'd pull his head out of the can like "i'm not doing anything..." with a big red ring around his face from the sauce.

My parents have a cat that likes to play hide and seek.  She'll run up, get your attention and then run off to hide.  Only her idea of hiding is sticking her head under the couch with the rest of her sticking out in plain view.  Apparently she thinks if she can't see you, you can't see her... its like something out of Monty Python!  When you grab her tail, she seems genuinely amazed you found her.

Years ago I had an akita... large japanese dog... named Sheba.  Sheba was a gentle giant, weighed 160 lbs at one point.  The neighborhood kids loved to play with her and one day I look out the back window to see the oldest boy charging the younger kids for pony rides on my dog!  But one of the funnier things she did was with the baby of the couple splitting rent with me at the time.  We had put a quilt outside and put the baby on it.  Sheba had watched and figured out the baby wasn't supposed to crawl off the quilt.  Much to our surprise she began laying down on the edge whenever the baby crawled towards it, blocking the baby from crawling off the quilt.  She'd patiently lay there regardless of what the baby did, pulling hair or ears.  Eventually the baby would crawl off in a new direction and once again Sheba would move to block.  This went on for over an hour, during which Sheba tirelessly "babysat".

I love these stories!!

I have a big fat fluffy cat named Bug. He was never the brightest, but he was hit by a car several years ago and suffered some nerve damage so now his head is a little tilted to one side. He just has a pretty daft blank stare. When he eats, he likes the food to be poured right out of the bag or whatever container we have it in. He doesn't like to eat food that's been sitting in the bowl. So one day he was begging for some food even though he had a full bowl. I kept a can of dried food under the counter and the rest of it in the pantry. The can was empty and I didn't feel like refilling it, so I emptied the bowl into the can, shook it around a little, dumped it back in the bowl, and he started munching happily.

I also used to have a little Yorkie with the spirit of a pitbull. She really didn't know she was a little dog. She was completely fearless. She loved to squeeze through and open door and run down the sidewalk with the kids chasing her and yelling. It was her favorite game. We had to go hunt her down many many times. I didn't know the extent of her wanderings for some time though. We lived in a typical suburban home with a fenced back yard, and each day we'd put her outside before we left for work. When we got home, we'd let her back in, feed her etc.... All was normal, right?  Well one day I was out walking her and a woman walking toward me stopped and said "Oh, is she your dog?"  "Yes", I replied, wondering who this woman was, and how she knew my dog.  "She comes to visit us every day".  "huh?"  Well it turns out my little yorkie was slipping through a hole in the fence and going a visiting in the neighborhood. She would go down to this neighbors house and run up and down her fence playing with her dog every day, then come back home, slip back in the fence and be there when we got home.

This same dog didn't always make it back home. We had to pick her up from neighbors houses several times when she disappeared and we had to hunt her down. One of the funniest times was in a neighborhood in Arizona. We thought she was past the age of running off, but managed to slip away from us one afternoon. We called the local radio station that helped the locals keep up with missing pets and found that she had been located. We walked down the street to retrieve her and found out that she had been picked up by two elderly ladies at the end of the block. They fell in love with her right away but couldn't decide which of them should keep her. They decided that if her owner didn't show up that they would share her! She always came back all shampood and brushed-everyone who retrieved her always loved her to pieces-she was adorable.

We now have a young cat in our household that is really athletic and active and does some pretty strange things. He has a fascination with beans and grains in bags. One day I came home from a local heathfood store with bags of flax seed, quinoa, oats etc... I had about a half pound each in these bags. I put the sack on the table while I was putting away other stuff. I heard him digging around in the bags and I looked and he had one of the bags of flaxseed and was dragging it across the floor. Then another time I was cooking some soup or something and I got all the ingredients out of the pantry, including a bag of dried lentils. I got all the other ingredients cut up and had them cooking and did some other housework for a while. When it came time to add the lentils they were nowhere to be found. I was certain I'd put them out, but I checked the pantry again, just to be sure. No lentils. I looked around in the kitchen everywhere, no lentils.  sigh. Finally as a last resort, I checked my daughters room where the cat (Peter) has his little house and bed and sure enough, there were my lentils scattered all over her floor.

Oh one of the funniest things I ever saw a cat do was a kitten named Siren. She was bit of a nervous cat, kind of high strung. One of those that's somewhat close to being feral. I don't quite remember how it happened, but somehow she was playing with a gumdrop. At some point, she bit it and sunk her fang right into the middle of it. Well the thing stuck to her fang and wouldn't come off. She started flipping out! She was jumping all over the place, whirling around, flopping on the ground and batting at it until finally it came off. I laughed til I cried.

My parents have a cat named Shadow that has a real mischevious streak. We lived with my parents for a while and when we did, my cat Bug was with us. He was sleeping on a low box against the wall one afternoon. I was at the kitchen table chatting with my Mom and saw Shadow kind of slowly saunter over to where Bug was sleeping. She kind of looked around nonchalantly and really looked like she was just strolling by. As she got closer, out of the blue, she reared up and BAM BAM BAM, she boxed his ears and then just sauntered off like nothing had happened. Bug didn't know what hit him, poor guy.

Shadow has some other odd habits. Whenever anyone in the house sneezes, she starts to meow.  She also meows when the dogs are at the backdoor and want to come inside. There they are with cold noses pressed to the glass and she's inside meowing to let us know they want in. It's very cute.

Also, every morning and evening, my parents have a ritual of giving snacks to all the animals. When my Mom announces snack time. Shadow starts to meow and rounds up all the other animals in the house and then leads them all down the hall to where the snacks are.

Oh and back to the Yorkie. I guess this isn't so much a funny pet story, but a funny people story. One time we'd taken the whole family for a picnic at the river when we lived in Sedona. There is an area there where the rocks are covered with a slippery moss and it's a great place to swim and let the kids slide around on the rocks. Well we'd picked our way across and found a nice place on the other side in the shade to picnic while the kids played. Now these rocks were so slippery that once you slid through the water it was tough to even turn yourself over, there was absolutely NO traction. Well after a couple of hours we decided to head back. I gathered up the blanket and towels and we all had armfuls of stuff to take back to the car. I grabbed the dogs leash and we started back across the rocks. We were almost across and DeeDee, slipped off the rock into deeper water. I pulled on the leash to pull her back up on the rock and when I did I lost my balance. I slipped sideways, fell into my daughter, who fell into my husband, who grabbed hold of my son and drug him down too.  There we were, the whole family, floundering around in the water, slipping and sliding, grabbing our gear and finally slogging out of the water.  A fine family moment.

My sister's lab would stay with me when they went out of town. One day when my son was young, he carefully crept up under the seat my son was sitting in. Waited for the kid to pick up his sandwich at which point a loud WOOF came from under the chair. Kid screamed, sandwich went flying, dog grabbed it out of the air. I couldn't stop laughing.

My dog isn't the brightest member of her species, but she is entertaining. My favorite consistent behavior is her prancing in the snow. She used to prance all the time, but now she only does it in the snow :( She also loves playing with other dogs, and loved to jump over my older brother's english bulldog, standing or laying down.

My primary slave has an enormous, energetic dog who loves to greet visitors with sloppy puppy kisses and lots of butt-wiggling and tail wagging.  Entering the house is always tricky especially if I have a full bladder and am trying to make it to the bathroom.  That dog's tail is a full-on whip and I have to hold his tail to his backside to avoid getting bruised on the thighs.  And if you put your head down low you might get a head-butt to the forehead which can knock you unconscious for a few minutes.  When we want privacy we have to keep him occupied with his toys in another room or he comes to the door and whines to be let in, sticking his nose under the door.

My sister has 4 cats and 2 dogs, and the dogs are the parents of my dog.  When we pay a visit, one of my rituals is to go to the kitchen pantry and to give all the dogs a treat, and they have to earn the treat by sitting.  One of the cats started sniffing around when it was treat time, and also sits to have a treat, which is really weird for a cat to do.  The other cats hover in the background as if to say, "I can't believe she's doing that..."
