came4U -> Stepford wife (12/12/2008 4:16:28 AM)

This guy built his own Stepford wife:

"British tabloids are calling it his 'robot girlfriend', but a 33-year-old Brampton man maintains that Aiko, which means 'Love Child' in Japanese, is merely a research project, albeit a costly, time-consuming one.

The fem-bot has been programmed by creator Trung Le to read, swat away an inappropriately placed hand, and speak about 13,000 sentences in English and Japanese.

It can also apparently have an orgasm, but its creator maintains he's more interested in teaching her to perform household tasks, like cleaning his ears and making him sushi.

"I'm hoping she'll become the perfect helper," he admits.  "If she can do some minimal housework, then yes, the perfect woman," he adds somewhat chauvinistically.

Aiko took two months to build and cost $25,000 to make. In order to do so, Le used up his entire life savings, maxed out his credit cards and was forced to move back in with his parents.

Smart guy  /sarcasm.  Yeah he needs a stepford wife so she can be his moral support when he proclaims bankruptcy due to his sheer stupidity. Personally I think something like this would be more appropriate:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L74LApmVgEw

The ultimate in  fake orgasm experience. I bet the ability to orgasm is the first glitch!!!!

Well, she is the type of girl you can bring home to mother....

if your mother is like Marie Barone of the 'Everybody Loves Raymond' fame.

kittinSol -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 5:28:10 AM)

Another inadequate bites the dust in the arena of HUMAN interpersonal relationships and has to build a robot to suck his cock. Sad [sm=biggrin.gif] .

Christinestill -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 5:31:17 AM)

clean his ears for him?  no wonder he had to "build a girl."  [:'(]

Sounds to me like the Stepford ex-wife.

~fr~

But will she want him now that he's broke and can't be a sugardaddy?

BlackPhx -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 8:07:05 AM)

OK I will admit I am weird...but I didn't think I was this far from being "normally warped". Easy to call it a Stepford wife, but this man has done something that roboticists have been trying to do for a LONG time. Make a humanoid robot that can emulate human behavior.

While he may have (without admitting it is why he did it) built a girlfriend, he has also built the prototype for a Service robot. One who can:
  1. Help a quadriplegic or paraplegic function without being a burden on family.
  2. Potentially enter dangerous areas to help injured persons (think collapsed building after an earthquake)
  3. Perform dangerous tasks that currently are high risk for humans but requires a humanoid form (thinking testing hostile environments on other planets and setting up for human exploration..aka the planets they found orbiting another star that may be inhabited or inhabitable. Potentially she could survive a trip of several light years, perform duties on board a ship and send back information regarding the hazards of such a trip on humans)
  4. Enter areas dangerous for our military and potentially keep our soldiers fro having to risk their lives daily.
We have always had a fascination for Androids, from I, Robot to Star Trek they have fueled our imaginations, and Scientists as well as Physicians who specialize in enabling people who have lost limbs to replace them have struggled to make humanoid limbs that are responsive to surfaces, fine motor control and look human. He has managed to package all of their technology into a form that is pleasing to the eye and responsive. She can even read without it having to be programmed or slipped into her processor as a disk. THAT is a major step forward. I would not be surprised if he is not employed very soon and given the funding to continue his efforts.

If he can solve her being able to walk (balance) and perform tasks independently, he has a winner. I hope he manages it. He spent less on her than they spent building half a robot for the BB Wonderbot exhibit in NY at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. Basically she is within commercial production and usage range.

poenkitten who considers this more a step forward than the robotic dogs that are all the rage as toys these days.

Lynnxz -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 8:19:44 AM)

You build a robot that can do all that in two months, and on 25k? I'm impressed.

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 8:57:04 AM)

I'm waiting for someone to build a "Stepford Husband" type robot - helps with housework without complaint, is good at DIY home projects without wrecking the place, actually takes out the garbage on time, makes plenty of money, doesn't want "a night out with the guys", is always ready for sex but never asks for it or looks elsewhere for it, and stays the hell outta my way when I'm not feeling sociable enough to tolerate another person's presence!

(Yeah, I know, I could get most of that with finding a compatible male sub - but they cost money to feed and cloth, and tend to get unhappy when they aren't treated as humans.  Besides, I don't want to control another Human's life and Robots Aren't Alive! )

Padriag -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 9:11:58 AM)

I'm going to laugh if the guy gets hired by RealDolls!

Meanwhile, so far as Stepfordwives... there are more than a few submissives who have that as a fantasy.... and I doubt they'll cost $25,000 either.

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 9:28:52 AM)

Pad - ya know I luvs ya dearly - but sub's cost money in Other ways ..... feeding them, clothing them, medical bills, they run up the utilities (those always cost more for 2 people than for 1, ya know)...... which are all things I earnestly desire to Avoid the cost of dealing with - I dislike having to deal with my Own bills enough that I'm absolutely not willing to take the bills on for maintaining a second person. (Gods know I wasn't cheap to maintain when I was still doing the power exchange thing - and I was on the submissive side of the coin at that time!)

popeye1250 -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 9:44:14 AM)

Wait till she wants a divorce!
THEN we'll see who the "fuck-doll" is!

That's the beauty of a robot, Pops - ya don't marry them, ya Own them - and since they aren't Alive, they can't whine about (very literally) not having any rights!  No pre-nup hassles, no divorce judge, no alimony - just take out the battery and toss 'em in the compactor!  Hell, women wouldn't even have to know how to fake it any more - robot = no feelings = no need to fake it to stroke a fragile male ego....

Christinestill -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 9:54:16 AM)

oh, just wait until robots get "rights."

Padriag -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 11:11:30 AM)

True... slaves cost money... but unless you actually buy them... they ain't gonna cost 25k up front!  Plus, a slave can always get a job and earn some money... a robot... I don't think so.  Plus I imagine a robot would need maintenance, spare parts, energy costs (they don't run for free), and who knows what a service call would cost.

Guess it all comes down to what you want most.

kdmfl -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 11:18:24 AM)

I think its amazing if he had the ability to make a robot that is so functional.   But the sex part is just strange and I don't believe for a second that it can cook, clean and take care of the household.  I think its got to be a bs story

FRSguy -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 11:46:35 AM)

Cant really say that I am that much into the idea of having robot sex however I think its amazing what he has acomplished and where it could go.  Somehow I feel that in about a month or so his financial problems will go away...lol.
Lots of companies would buy into something like that as a research program.

UncleNasty -> RE: Stepford wife (12/12/2008 12:00:22 PM)

I like people too much, male and female (and doesn't that cover it all?), to ever want a facsimile. Yeah, we all come with flaws and warts, but we also come with human emotions, interpersonal dynamics and relations, etc.

Human emotions aren't rocket science. They're more complicated than that, LOL.

Uncle Nasty, happily back to 1 1/2 hands.
