I guess I am having a hard time understanding why some think that being judgmental is a bad thing? I just don’t get it. (quote irishmist)

for me, getting judgemental about a person suggests that i am in a position to cast an opinion on their life/opinion etc., and unless i know a person inside out i just dont feel comfortable doing that.

no thought, action, opinion or outcome is an island - everything that we do and feel and think has baggage of some sort.  how one person arrives at a place is totally their business - i can maybe offer an opinion or advice if its asked for, other than that i try not to.

maybe i see it as a negative thing, i think i do.  if someone gets judgemental about my life and how i choose to lead it from time to time i get really hacked off.  noone knows me or my life better than me and noone has any right to judge how i go about my life because they have no idea what its like to live my life.  the opinions ive reached are my own, some are valid some are total crap, but theyre mine, ive earned them and i own them.

judge me by all means.  but to get judgemental about who i am and how i got here is flawed, because there is noone on this planet who knows deep down sure how my wierdly wired brain reacts and responds, not even i do half the time![:D]

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  Being judgemental (which is different from forming a judgement or coming to a conclusion about something) has gotten a bad rap because, for the most part, it connotes a faulty decisionmaking process.  Its pretty much the same as the phrase "jumping to conclusions" only the conclusions are infused with moral import.  The person accused of being judgemental is usually someone who has an opinion on something they don't know anything about and is convinced its absolutely wrong and the devils work.  Or something like that.  Its not the same as being decisive or firm as many who have posted here are implying.

I don't think going around bragging about how judgemental you are (a general you, not a specific one) is a good idea.  Its like going around bragging about making hasty conclusions:  "I'm soooo cool, I come to a conclusion long before I know anything about the topic!  I don't need to give anything due consideration.  My guesses are ace!  And, I drive better when I drink and can quit any time I want." lol

But, all that having been said, I tend to get more and more judgemental the closer to home something hits.

Its the closed minded judging and condemning that I am opposed to. Like I should live my life and make my decisions according to what you think is right. If you ask my opinion, I will give it but what I am opposed to is when someone thinks they are superior to me and therefore questions everything I do. But I am the one that will tell that person to bugger off.

LOL well shucks, I do that to you all the time. How come you don't tell me to bugger off ?

Fiddlefuck...what am I doing wrong?

[:o]

Well, if you werent so dang cute and amusing. [;)]
