What do I think?  I think that issue will sell twice as much as normal.

As for the Playboy cover and the reaction by the Catholic church, I think a religious sect whose leaders have done so much to cover up and deny sexual child abuse for decades, even centuries, and to repeatedly allow it by relocating known pedophiles, has lost the right to be offended by a photo.

Yes,I don't honestly care what the Vatican thinks either. The come much too late in their pious opionions, you are correct.

Personally, it crosses a line. It is not only that they depict the Holy Mother as 'beautiful', it is the beauty of her in body, not spirit  ideology, but that it is blasphamy to associate her at all in the business of (soft) pornography in general. 

This was NO mistake, this is big business, a corporation of SMART people who would never miskake a visible comparason like this. No painted picture or statue in history has been seen more by anyone in any nation more than pictures depicting J or M.  No way in hell did anyone along the heirarchy of the magazine (from model selection, location, props, makeup, photographer, editing and printing) not notice the controversy through insult it would cause.  I thought the entertainer Madonna was bad. [8|]

This isn't a matter of religion vs taste.  It is merely a test to see (exactly what you said)..

What do I think?  I agree, the world has gone to pot when they have a religious fit about a nekked model on the cover of a magazine no matter what she is dressed like.  Come on, it’s not like they dug up the virgin Mary and shot a porn with her corpse and the petrified Jesus penis.  It’s just a nekked model and they should get over it. 

Speaking of going to pot, maybe they just need to smoke a few and loosen up.  Grab some alt-sex porn and free their minds.  Then go to church and pick up some fresh ass…. nuns and virgins are considered hot!  Prudes are not. 

Having lived in Mexico, I think the same people that are complaining in public will turn around and jerk off to the very same photos in private.  I lived in that country for years and many of the hypocrites that attend and/or function in the churches make the homosexual pedophile priests in the United States look like amateurs. 

I love the passionate Mexican culture when it is untainted.  Looking at the result of the influence of the Christian church in Mexico is painful.  A beautiful culture twisted and marred by a history of unnecessary restraint and European rituals and values, all fueled by the peer pressure of social criticism that was injected forcefully into their society by outsiders.

I think the Mayans might have celebrated the Lady of Guadalupe with nude statues, sacrifice and beautiful rituals instead of using her feast day as an excuse to bash a nude photo on a magazine that resembles Mary.  Too bad the church fucked all that up eh?

I think its fine, you see the thing is if the church stopped throwing their arms in the air and wailing everytime people make a referance to them then people would stop doing it. Sure the image is to shock but then thats what playboy is famous for. Yesterday I watched a piece on The Life of Brian where clergymen argued with palin and clease on television in a totally pompus way and probably didnt even take the time to actually watch the film. There are far more important issues that the church could and should be looking at (the condemnation of protection by the catholic church and the rise of HIV in catholic africa is the top of my list)

I suppose the religious fanatics do serve a purpose though, they act as an opposition to stop things going too far, perhaps it is they that because of their bleatings at anything vaguely offensive to 'them', they maintain a balance between freedom and control. A control that since the heyday of the catholic regime has gradually lessened with time. It might even come to be that in the future they will not oppose anything, by that time the free thinkers may have learned to moderate themselves.

The other thing of course is that every time the catholic control foot wants to stamp, it pushes people away from and towards the church, they lose sympathy and gain it.

If a person's faith is so easily shaken and offended by the "earthy" visual representation of a diety ( or mother of ) then I would question the true foundation of such a person's faith.
 
With war, poverty, sickness, starvation and a variety of other world woes, I think the Catholic Church has other things to occupy it's time then worrying about a rather cute young woman wearing a towel and standing in front of stained glass.
