ORIGINAL: Sunnyfey Sir bought me a straight razor. HE wants me to eventually learn how to give him a good old time barber shop shave. You know, the warm lather, hot towels, close shave, maybe a bit of a neck massage. How the hell do I even go about learning that? Its a STRAIGHT RAZOR. its a really big knife on the end of a foldy sticky handle thing. It scares the piss out of me. Like....seriously, scares the crap out of me. THAT'S HIS JUGULAR. I"d like it to stay where it is thank you...... Wow, very trusting, at one time a certain King's most trusted advisor was his barber, when asked why, the king replied his barber had a blade to his throat every day. I use a straight razor and it took me a while to get the hang of it, but the most important thing I learned was how to get the thing prepared for the shave, it and the skin, as there is a definite way of doing it, without which not only is the shave unsatisfactory, it is uncomfortable and and the blade not appearing to shave, more pressure is applied which can lead to cuts. I don't wish to scare you, but I grew my beard to allow some of the teething scars to heal. Wet shaving with a blade is an art, and a worthwhile art to learn, as the saying is true, nothing comes closer, not only that but it successfully exfoliates the skin, removing all dead skin in the process. But now my beard has gone, for xmas at least and I am back to the straight razor and though it takes time to shave, what a shave, I missed that in my fungus mode. The scars I had, well, they are gone, dabbing with ''BioOil'' as ever sorted them out. But how to do it, well youtube is a good source of videos on the subject, also is the ''straight razor forums'', but I will link ''Expert Village'' instruction videos here, which you can follow if you wish, after that, learn how to prepare the razor and the skin. This part, though there is online tuition available, I would if I were you, go and seek the services from an old fashioned barber, get them to teach you how to wet shave another. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_PGe1lbi5Zs Have fun Edited to add, a pretty good video on how to prepare the razor, skin and later if you follow the video, how to do it ; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JUK56EqF-B0
