This is a small town, except for fast food, we have no chain restaurants. And I'm not likely in the dead of winter to want to drive 45 minutes to get to one.

I've been to Red Lobster this year a lot, while out of town. That I really like but don't know of one anywhere near here.

About dessert, I don't eat dessert, I read dessert! I almost always ask for the dessert menu, and then leave without any. I just like to read about them.

DesFip, I like reading the liquor menu's at restaurants, It also gives Daddy and I something to small talk about cause if I don't understand the word, or know what it is, I ask and he'll tell me and we talk about it.

Absolutely. I hate chain restaurants. When I am dining in my town, this place is the best.

http://www.francinebistro.com/ The food is amazing, and the menu changes every day. Fresh, organic and local. Oh, and killer drinks. Yum.

We have 3,200 of them here!
I like the Texas Roadhouse (a chain) for good steaks, ribs and other stuff plus it's fun to watch the waitresses do the "Cotton Eye Joe."
But, I like other privately owned ones too.

Aynne, that's one thing I do miss about New England, the food!
The best seafood! Oh, and Italian down in Boston.
Wednesday is my birthday so I'll probably go to the Roadhouse.

Yes. I feel the same way about eating places as I do banks : Keep the money in the local community.

I'm versatile as far as the particular cuisine...But I love chef-owned, bohemian-themed places that specialize in local produce, meats, fish and poultry. And I no longer visit Pizza places that don't utilize wood-fired ovens.

Once you've acquainted yourself with good pizza cooked in a 900-degree wood-fired oven, you'll never be able to force down a slice from Pizza Hut again.

I don't really do chain restaurants, but these are a few of my favorite local places (Click for food porn! haha)

www.goldfishkitchen.com <--- Their roasted butternut squash soup is AMAZING. And their mustard greens salad is delicious. I'm going there Thursday :)

http://www.lumiere.ca/ <--- Only place in Vancouver I've found with a vegetarian tasting menu. Will be there on the 27th

http://www.malones.bc.ca <--- Less food porny, but awesome if you want cheap bar food. Their veggie burgers are good, and suprisingly so is their baked brie.

www.yaggers.com <-- lastly, more cheap bar food, but made with mostly organic ingredients. They don't have many veggie options, but the owners are really sweet, know my drinks off by heart, and will often make me random veggie items that I've never requested, aren't on the menu, and are generally delicious haha. If anyone is in Vancouver, I strongly suggest hitting this place up.

I am so happy to live in chicago. I have had mexican and middle eastern food in the last 2 days. I love everything from Thai to indian to gourmet. Now if I could only get Warden to be more adventurous.

My favorite is Akasaka. We started going there when my sister started working for Nissan. They have the best shrimp tempura. Oh and the sushi is good too. When Nissan moved out to Farmington Hills, they started going to the Cherry Blossom which is nice, but much farther for me to drive.

I abhore chain restaurants, hate hate HATE! Their food sucks, the atmosphere is usually cheesy and just bleck. I would rather cook.

If I am going to eat out, it will be a locally owned place.

Cafe Dodici in Washington is to DIE for! But pricey so I only go there on occasion.

El Ranchero has good American Mex food here in Iowa City.

Hamburg Inn has great sandwiches.

And the hundred or more other restaurants here in Iowa City. It really is hard to get a bad meal here. We are lucky with the University and the huge hospital, that draws such a great culteral mix of people.

There is a Mexican place here that we are both pretty fond of...but that's a year round thing. I tend to like local places better than chains...most of the food served in a chain restaurant tastes kind of like dog food to me. Olive Garden is one of the worst....omg I can't even believe they call that stuff food. We don't have any good Italian places here so if I want good Italian I cook it myself. To be honest, most of the time when we eat out it's because we've been out running around and don't want to wait for me to prepare something...or we are meeting other people at a munch or something.

With the moving and living out of hotels, I couldn't wait to get back into a kitchen again. I also hate chain restaurants. The food quality is sub-par, and the staff always seems miserable. Thankfully San Francisco is one of the foody capitals of the US. I've joined a networking site for SF foodies that gives great recommendations. Now we just have to get back into the habit of eating at home during the week, and having one eat out meal on the weekends.

To the OP...I don't have any favorite holiday restaurants. I would rather stay home and bake or decorate. Christmas is the one time of year I become a homebody.

There's a sushi place up here called Sakura, serves the best damn sushi I've ever eaten in my entire life. Nice comfy atmosphere, the waitstaff keeps their distance unless called over or glasses go empty (I hate hovering waiters) and the food is prepared right there where I can watch. And one of the chefs is devastatingly beautiful. mmmmm

Me alsom though I am a homebody all the time. Quite often, on the weekends, I cook several big batches of things to eat as leftovers during the week. This time of year I like making big pots of soup. Takes several hours and makes the house smell divine.

Last night when I got home I made a triple batch of pralines, tonight a huge mass of fudge. Over the weekend I will bake a few quickbreads, and my Christmas package supplies will be ready. No one complains about those gifts.

I love getting and giving homemade food gifts! Fudge sounds awesome. Sir is planning on making his special fudge this weekend. I've been baking some Christmas cookies (it's a good way to get warm again after spending days in the new house with no heat waiting for contractors). While Sir is making his fudge I am going to make up some jar mixes for gifts. Yes, the Holidays are the best time to stay home and cook.

Our favorite Holiday restaurant is Tavern on the Green in NYC. It's all decked out for Christmas, every tree has white lights and it is truly a wonderland.
The food has actually improved over recent years and not just a tourist trap. If anyone has an opportunity to go to NYC during the holiday season (the best city in the country for being decorated) you really should try the Tavern in Central Park on the west side.

For me it is the buffet at the Bellagio or Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens both in Las Vegas.
Of course I have desert.
