Just out of curiosity I've been reading about what Scientology is all about. (No, I have no desire to become a Scientologist) There sure seems to be a lot of conflicting information. Does anyone know what it's really all about?

Its like a group of courses, each one you pay for to get higher up the ranks.

I went to the church long ago... thinking it something different than it is.  Back then it was presented as anything they thought you would be interested in to get you into things, then the money for classes, then the games... the robots.  I noticed that everyone said the same things when you met up with them.  They were all into things longer and you could not get them to go any deeper in conversation and many lived there.  I caught on real quick at that point.  This isn't what it seems and is very, very wrong.

I decided to leave and someone told me I had to talk to someone before I could.  Excuse me???  My husband at the time wasn't there and I was alone.  I was very young and there were no cell phones.  I was trying to get to a phone to call for a ride home since I wasn't going to stick around for my ride who was there.  I was in an area of a town I didn't know.

When told I could not leave without talking to this person I decided that I would indeed talk to this person and boy would he not like it!  He tried to convince me to stay... that I needed to stay.  I finally told him that I had someone waiting for me and if I didn't show up within half an hour they would call the police.  The man looked shocked and then said... if you leave you will be kicked out of the church worldwide, forever.  He agreed then to let me go out of the building.

The Hollywood set is different.  They have a church for the star's and they see a far different thing than what can be seen in other churches like the one I was in.  They do some sort of internship or missionary work and they live in the church and give their all to the church at this time.  They are totally dependant upon the church and must find money... relatives... ect. to donate and such.  At least that is what I saw in the church I was at many years ago.

The first classes or course... whatever... is to teach you to become 'clear'.  You read things and then they ask you what you read.  You tell them... they say... wrong... read it again.  You learn to give them the answer they want as they are redefining words... even... it.. the and, and.  They have their own dictionary and must teach you to think differently so that you can move on to the next step which is learning to be 'clear' which basically means you can be in a room, someone talking to you and you hear the words but do not respond to them.  You are to have no reaction whatsoever so that you are in control so to speak of what you take in or think... whatever.  You think the way they want you to... you do well... you think independently and you are wrong and cannot get to the next step/class/course that cost even more than the first one.  After you can get to 'clear' you then get to go to the next class that they promote as amazing and where the real experience comes in.

I consider it a cult of the worse kind...

I then would go to their tables at swap meet and listen if they had a crowd and interested people and ask them questions.  They didn't know I had any knowledge of them.  By the time I asked the tell all questions, the crowd would be gone and the people from the church there, very angery. I would prove they were lying and such... they didn't like me much.  I just smiled and walked away.

A few tweaks in the curriculum and it sounds like Scientology would be the perfect place for churning out compliant slaves  .

LOL... they were... they worked for the church... repairing it... promoting it and bringing in family and friends...  I know a few who lost a lot of money and one who sued for his money back as he fell for it all and lost all he had.

Read Dianetics by L Ron Hubbard, it's there bible.  It started off as a Sci-Fi book, then when he realized he could make more money with religion the book was no longer fiction.

So it's basically like every other religion, money, power, money money money.

When I was there, they were being investigated for breaking into a govenment office and getting into documents and such... with a polictical purpose.  That was after the founder died and his wife had taken over.  I don't remember it all... but don't need to, to know they were not on the up and up.

On their website, at first glance it would seem that it is based on a set of principles that most people would do well to incorporate into their lives. But then as I read on in other places I found talk of extra-terrestrials and I just started to go WOW. I know that some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are very devoted and I just have to wonder how such seemingly intelligent people could get so caught up in it.

They used to start out with a personality test... on the streets of Hollywood. That is where I ran into them.  They presented it as fun and my husband wanted to play along and see what it was about.  Once they have this personal information about you, they work on YOU and the things you say in the test and draw you in from that.  Like I said, the Hollywood set see a far different thing that the average person.
