I feel a need for a bitchfest thread. What set me off? Well, I was reading about freezing tortillas (which I have found leaves them dry and crumbly) so I start reading all this crap about >flour< tortillas. For fuck's sake, tortillas are CORN. The Aztecs, Olmecs, Zapotecs, Mayans didn't have wheat. Whatever the fuck those flour things are are closer to Pita bread or matzo than tortillas.

And those weird appetizer things made with melted cheese inside a pitatilla are cheese fucking sandwiches, not Quesadillas. Fucking Barbarians.

Imagine - freezing tortillas! Poor little guys; what could they possibly have done to deserve that? Do you find it good sport or something, catching them? Its hardly like they move very fast on those stubby little legs.

And then to complain that freezing makes them all dry and crumbly! What the hell did you expect? Theyre hardly going to emerge from -20 C with a smile on their faces are they?

You people make me sick! I hope a tortilla - one of those huge ones from the Galapagos - takes a shit in your bed real soon!

Well you will be happy to know that when it comes time for me to make such wraps, corn flour and water with a few pinches of salt, a nice iron frying pan with a flat bottom is flipped over, a little corn flour upon the hot bottom and girl does it all with her hands.
A little habeno(sp) hot sauce, a little meat, a little diced cactus apple (since it grows like a weed).

You are quite right, if you are wanting traditional cuisine. Some of what is found was never there to begin with. Maybe find out when all the extras were added.
Now girl knows that at the southern of chile, there is ground plant, with large leaves that has been described as a cross between spinach and lettuce, just wondering if that was perhaps used as lettuce way back when. See if girl can not find the name of it some where.
Wonder if they milked their lamas. Doubt they had anything like the cheeses we have today, but they might have a means to make curds.

never mind the food - what about the drink?!

I went to a 'stellar' chain of coffee shops the other day and ordered a tall, skinny decaff latte. Which if I'm being realistic, is a large milky coffee. Without milk. Or coffee.

AND I had to pay an extra 20p more for the privilege!

Sheesh...

Try this one on.

Cool Whip is non-dairy topping for desert (or any body part is food is part of your kink).

Perhaps 10 - 12 years ago they came out with Cool Whip made with real cream.

So the fake stuff is the real Cool Whip, and the Cool Whip made with the real stuff is the fake Cool Whip.

These are the things keep me up at night, LOL.

DAMMIT ! Just when I hit OK this got moved. I ain't typing all that out again.

Even wiki doesn't quite clear up what a quesadilla is.

Pizza bears no resemblance to it's original form except maybe the crust. Hanburgers didn't come from Hamburg, frenchfries are not French, spaghetti was invented in China and don't even get me started on beer.

How can things be what they seem when they are not even what they are called ?

Well now what a second, not all flour is wheat flour. You can certainly have maize flour and amaranth flour. You're objecting to WHEAT tortillas, not flour tortillas.

Right, when I worked at ChiChi's, the burritos, chimichangas, & quesadillas were made from flour tortillas. The enchiladas were made from corn tortillas. Would you like sour cream with that? :)

next time, just ask for an americano, room for cream, and add skim milk, you want mocha, dust your coffee with some chocolate powder.
why would you want the foam on top anyways? your paying extra for the steamed milk, the foam will just flatten out eventually, once you start drinking your coffee.

Prefers to make my own tortillas and taco shells.
As for anything that is made synthetically or where it comes from is not something you would normally eat or drink. Girl never touches it again. Case in point, artificial sweetener that is still used in the process of embalming. Coffee whitener that is actually a petroleum product and is flammable, why do you think it is placed in ration packs, its not to whiten your coffee, its to be used as an accelerate when you are attempting to start your campfire.
There are many other things, the worst is MSG. The reason you get headaches, stomach aches or suffer from nausea and even puking, is because the damn stuff is poisonous. They still use it because its a preservative and restorative.
Why would anyone go out of their way to poison themselves especially since everyone is running about trying to stay healthy, to become healthy and improve themselves.
Bay Leaves are poisonous.
Oregano is a narcotic.

It's true!! I don't enjoy Mesican food. I love the California burritos with tons of real Mesican hot sauce inside them, but real Mesican, nope!

On the other hand, I love real Chinese food, the kind they make in China. I hate the food they serve to Americans in the front part of the restaurant. The food in the back is a different story. If you were to go to China & ask for the foods that most people eat in Chinese restaurants in this country, they would just look at you & wonder what the heck you wanted!! I've found one restaurant in this country whose owner/chef is from China & after speaking with him for awhile, he went back & made me real Chinese food. YUMMMMMM

And while I'm on the subject, what's up with Norwegian-Americans using margarine in their cooking to make it low-cholesterol??? Real Norwegian cooking calls for real butter!!!
