Those types tend to gravitate to colleges and unis because they don't function well in society otherwise. Also they think they'll have an "audience" in that type of setting. As for real "comedians" you couldn't beat Rodney Dangerfield. Or, Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Schimmel, Dennis Miller, Jay Lenop. Al Franken couldn't shine those guy's shoes.

Wow, this thread has really been rocking in the last day. Re Franken being funny. I do not remember him ever not being funny. My favorite bit was probably when his Stuart interviewed Michael Jordan and tried to teach him positive affirmations. I loved Rodney Dangerfield. My friends and I used to make pilgrimages to see Rodney in Las Vegas when he was only playing the Lounge at the Riviera. ( no cover charge even) Rodney and Franken have a huge amount in common in their comedy. BTW Rodney and Lenny Bruce and Mort and Steve...you know, all Franken comedy ancestors... were close friends, flat out Democrats & Liberals from the day they were born. No - if we are choosing up comedy teams - Rodney is on ours. And please take Dennis Miller, good choice.Cable Guy too.

He was a primarily a writer in the early days.Not all writers did skits,though he did do a few.He he also had a gig wit Tom Davis,another SNL writer. He had some flops too. He`s somewhere between the Un-known comic and Richard Prior. [:D]
