EGADS! Do you have to worry about polar bears going through your trash?

*g*  Nah, we are not that far north.  Though this summer we did have several black bears and their cubs in the hills around our town.  Then we had one wander through downtown in the middle of the afternoon.

Fast reply:

It's cold here, but it IS Pennsylvania.  I'm used to that.  But by now, we usually have 3 or 4 inches of snow.  It's just been RAINING!  Blach!!  Sweets has to work outside in it too.  I would rather have snow.  It would make it feel more like Christmas.  I was talking to a friend of mine last night that said it was 30 below at his house.  So I stopped bitching about the weather here.  Until I got up this morning! lol

It is sunny and quite bright here...but windy...wind chills in the minus 10's.

I have been without a working furnace for close to a month.

I have a space heater in my bedroom.

I come next door during the day... and then when I get home I get bundled up in bed.

All they need to run is a little more than a drip and they should stay clear

Was like 60 yesterday, and now it is 20... brr brr brr.

Don't all you freezy people know that to stay warm, you have to pack cats around you? We woke up this morning and all three cats were on the bed together... one on his feet, one on my feet, and one in the middle.

this is just plain silly

Are your pipes directly exposed to a horrific wind chill? Can you insulate them, and perhaps run heat tape inside the insulation?

yes they are. And the wind chill factor is about -20 right now. Hubby has the electrical heat tape on the basement portion of the pipes, but not the upper portion under the kitchen sink.
They seem to be ok now..it has warmed up to about 10 degrees. As soon as the munchkin wakes up from his nap we are going to the hardware store for more tape. Tonight is another cold one!

Thanks, Sanity!

Its as cold as a well diggers pick here today but no snow, was around 30 below last night with the wind chill..I make sure all the out side critters have straw and are out of the wind..Our pipes are insulate well however last night the cold water started to slow, so I went to the basement and turn on a space heater and we have the dryer vent placed into the tight craw space and will run a cycle on a real cold night..Try venting your dry on your pipes it seems to work well for us....I used to get a lot of calls to bring my welder to thaw pipes but so many folks are using PVC and that won't work too well smile..grin and bear with It spring isn't too far away...bounty

http://www.davidolney.com/lyrics/web/R/w_revolution.htm

Revolution
by David Olney
from:
The Wheel

Autumn raised her dying head
And to her frightened troops she said
"Don't mourn for me but save your strength for Winter
And if by chance you should survive
And if by Spring you're still alive
Remember me, remember how we struggled"
Her tattered army broke and ran
A darkness fell upon the land
Silently we bowed beneath the snowfall

Winter came to claim her throne
She turned the heart of Earth to stone
Not one of us dared raise his voice against her
Winter's reign was long and cruel
But we grew hard each day she ruled
Each frozen night seemed to last forever
She grew barren in her ancient age
And bitter in her twisted rage
Too blind to see the seeds of revolution

Underground the rebels schemed
In secret all our children dreamed
Patiently we waited for our moment
When at last the time was right
We rose up from the dead of night
And with the light of day we defied her
Her screaming voice howled and cracked
But nothing now could turn us back
And with the Spring Winter was defeated
Free at last the Earth rejoiced
Everywhere we heard the voice
Of Freedom ringing out across the land

How we toiled with Spring's first rush
But with the Summer we grew lush
And lazy in the warmth of the season
It's all too easy to forget
Winter's touch as cold as Death
We all believe the Summer lasts forever
It's all too easy to forget
Winter's touch as cold as Death
We all believe the Summer lasts forever

You are going to hate this suggestion Holly..fill a couple of manure bags with contributions from the cows and pack them around the pipes headed into the house and around the pipes coming from the well. They should generate just enough heat to keep them running free...inside the house not much can be done save turning up the heat and wrapping them with heat tape or blankets.

"the housemate just tweaked the furnace and got it working.   It is already a balmy 54 degrees …  that is up from 38."

I asked and she says yes, if gets warm enough she’ll sleep nekked tonight.
