Status: offline 		well we all have them, or at least our family had them--so what are they?

We always:

Have black eyed peas to ward off evil
Have cabbage to bring abundance
Burn the Bayberry candle
A bayberry candle burned to the socket
Brings health to the home and money to the pocket


and do not do household or mundane chores because what you do on New Years, you do all year long.

What are your traditions/superstitions?

Status: offline 		just about the same ones, but i seem to remember ham hocks in there someplace too (with the black eyed peas..lol)

i'm from the deep south originally, so guess that's why our traditions are so similar...

Or at least none that I have ever thought were superstitions

/scratches head in confusion

darn, now I have to go through what I did today to see if its a superstition or not

Thanks for the warning. It diffinetly brings an abundance of gas and spending time in the bathroom for sure.
When you eat enough black eye peas, you will be warding off anything and everything.

Status: offline 		My grandma always threw a handful of change into the house as she was coming in the front door for the first time in each new year. She said that way money would be coming into the house all year long.

It never did, but we didn't want to burst her bubble.

I think everyone has some sort of superstitions though.
Ever pick up a penny and think about luck?

Mine are common and limited. Nothing for the New Year though.
