MHOO314 -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 7:22:35 AM)

My picture is posted and has been for over a year and I work for one of the most conservative companies still---last year I shared I was Wiccan and I am still there--I think at times we are too afraid-- after all, My question would be, well Mr Employer, you found Me on such and such a site under a screen name----what were YOU doing out there?

smiles---

I have to agree with you on this MHOO.... but i guess others fear what they have to lose is greater. It's not all about the Job. It's also about family. I know some still hide this from them. You know I do... lol.. but we that do have our reasons for this too.

Having my face posted here like i do.. doesn't worry me at all. Strange, i just realized that perhaps i'm daring someone to know me so maybe i won't have to hide no more from them.

Aileen68 -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 7:38:26 AM)

There are definitely ways that you can have a picture without showing your whole face, but still show who you are.
Play around with your camera and be creative.
Take a look at other profiles and see how others have done it.

fyreredsub -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 7:41:36 AM)

i put mine up yesterday now if i could figure out how to get it to come to the forum side ,lol,i'ld be a happy camper

IrishMist -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 8:14:48 AM)

I could post mine if I wanted to, I just like being difficult [&:]

OscarHargraves -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 8:21:40 AM)

I don't care one way or another. I would never post anything anywhere that I wouldn't want seen and printed in the local morning paper. Beyond that my pictures are private.

I don't want to sound harsh, but this is quite sad. How can you possibly expect anyone else to let you control them completely without having enough control of your own life to be honest to the world about who and what you are?

The truth is, it is most likely that nothing would happen if you posted your picture. If it did, being from Canada, you'd most likely have a wonderful lawsuit on your hands that would make you more money then your pension.

I suppose I am a bit more "out" then the average person. I have a public webiste that not only has pictures, but lists my full name, phone number and address. Elle and I were filmed doing a scene for HBO...I can't wait to see what happens when that goes public. *smile*

I have been this out for years, and if anyone at work knows (and I suspect a few that do), they don't say anything.

Take a chance, it might pay off...

Taggard

Shayna -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 8:41:39 AM)

Very cute pic, fyreredsub!

Taggard, was it for a Real Sex episode? Hopefully you'll let us know when it will air :)

As far as me, I've had it up, taken it down, but it up, etc. I'm a single woman living alone and yes, I am a tad paranoid. If someone knows my first name and where I work, they could easily find out quite a bit about me. I wouldn't lose my job, but I would be exceptionally embarrassed. I've put my family through a lot with radical antics from the past, but this would be something that they would feel very confused about, and some colleagues would view my agenda at work sceptically.

But I like the idea of playing around with semi-discreet images.

I am not totally sure what it was for...I probably should have asked more questions. *smile* They simply asked if we wanted to be filmed for HBO, and we, being the incredibly shy types, jumped at the chance!

Believe me, when I know, everyone on here will know. *laughing*

DungeonSpain -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 2:32:39 PM)

If only we could discover HOW to put our picture in a profile, it would be an advantage.

A little advice about 'photo' and 'profile' would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Focus50 -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 3:58:13 PM)

I can understand your reservations but I think you're also giving people too much credit.

Me, I'm certainly not ashamed of my Dominant sexuality and I post my pic freely on sites. But that's not to say any vanilla friends or workmates know of my leaning - I don't tell them and there's only one way they'd ever find me here.

If someone confronts you for finding your pic on a BDSM site, just ask them what they were doing there. I've never found pics of anyone I know on gay sites that I thought were straight for a simple reason; I'm not gay and I don't visit gay sites - not even if I'm bored. And rather than actually coming on site, have you ever just entered your nic into a search engine such as Google? If not, you're in for a shock! But the same principle still applies - people still hafta know what they're looking for and generally, only BDSMers are gonna find you on a BDSM site so only another BDSMer can blackmail or "out" you.

But ok - maybe that's too big a step from where you're currently at. So compromise and do what Aileen said, get creative with a camera. Other than skin and hair colour, probably the main defining feature of anyone's face is their eyes. And a b&w pic defeats much of that info anyway. Now take a look at this page, right here. Do you think you'd recognise Taggard if you passed him in the street and he wasn't wearing shades and a bandana? Aileen's pic is b&w, grainy and has much of her face obscured with her arm, anyway - and it's still a great pic.

Even if it's not by design, Taggard's pic gives him plausible deniability if someone were to attempt to out him. Just a pair of sunnies makes a huge difference. Think about it....

The actual instructions for uploading your pic in your profile are straight forward but you need to be particular what your main pic is as that's the one that'll appear with your posts.

Once you've done that, you'll need patience as it seems to take a well over a week before your pic "magically" appears with your posts one day. Same if you just change main pics....

You might want to think about not capping the "m" of "me" as well. It is a rather silly thing to do and has about the same effect as the whore who walks around in the midriff tee shirt with the word "Sexy" on it. If you have to shout about being something, you probably aren't...

BalletBob -> RE: Pictures (1/1/2006 5:10:50 PM)

Does your Boss belong to Collarme, to see your pictures? Now if he did belong to Collarme and did see your picture, wouldn't it give him away if he mentioned seeing your picture here?

I do post my pictures and have done for some time. I do have my Session and Posed pictures in a Private Yahoo Photo Album, so people have to request to see them, and then I can decide who does.

There are some of us who work in professions in which we would be immediately fired if we were discovered. I run a social service agency that works with children and families. Now, while I'm clearly not a pedophile, and would have a great lawsuit option open to me should I be fired for being "found out", this would take years, and in the meantime I would not be able to support myself.

I would assume that most elementary and high school teachers fall into this category as well. Even though gay and lesbian people have won lawsuit after lawsuit in the US, there is still rampant discrimination that allows their employers to find some other reason to fire them or lay them off (budget cuts, of course). Then, it is almost impossible for them to get another job once they are "outed".

No thanks. My photo is available upon request to people that I have chatted with enough to learn to trust.

There are many jobs (like mine) that this is the case..so it not just the matter of being brave or true to yourself but more a matter of self preservation.
