I am getting ready to purchase my first cane. I have used them before but am wondering what everyone's opinion is on the subject. Do you enjoy it, what about it do you enjoy?

Status: offline 		A rattan or kooboo cane is advised, the sensation is totally different then synthetic canes, I do not like plastic canes at all.

Dragons are wonderful, whippety thuddy, the thinner the cane the more likely buttock slicing will commence.

Obviously it depends on the force and technique, and delivering a good warm up is essential and can actually enhance receiving more cane strokes also.

I adore caning, and my slave TV joanne is upto her 300th cane strokes now, with no warm up, such a good girl!

I  enjoy the feeling as it connects with the buttocks, the sound it produces as I aim to produce perfect cane stroke alignment, Viewing my cane art transend into crimson stripes, and cuts, and providing a challenge of declaring a set amount of strokes that my subs must endure, and following through to the very last stroke.

Caning really triggers my sadism at times, but only for the hardened CP enthusiast.

I can also cane a novice, without leaving marks, a skill that I have acquired over years of practice

Status: offline 		We have just started experimenting with caning using a couple of dowel rods. For me, they are punishment/fear toys - definately a whole different level of pain for me - not nesscarily BAD, but the kind of pain that isn't so much about pleasure for me. Anytime he brings those out and taps me with them, the response is immediate, terrified, and incredibly hot. I would suggest not buying the skinny ones, he accidently broke one over my ass the first time we played with them. (Although the sharp point later made for an interesting poking sensation play thing....) I have also heard that binding them together is a good idea to prevent snapping.

We're looking at buying a plastic one, and I have heard others say that mini-blind rods are a good thing to start with.

There is just nothing like the sound they make when I wave them in the air.  They cut the air with that lovely 'swishing' noise.  My boys tremble in anticipation when they hear that.  It leaves such beautiful welts on their backs and buttocks that send me into ecstasy when I run my fingers across them.  Just like an old fashioned rub board.  So divine.

Status: offline 		You can buy wonderful, reasonably priced rattan canes on eBay. I bought mine from an English guy who sells there, and seems to do quite a good business in them. Co-sign the recommendation for dragon/kooboo.

Status: offline 		rattan and large diameter for the first ones, if you get blind rods get the round ones as the edges of some can cut if not careful. getting several small diameter ones and bundling one end for a handle is good as well it can be used like that or have rubber bands to hold it in a bundle, and as a bundle they can be used to hold nipples tongue or other things in it.

Status: offline 		i have not felt a cane ever but a couple of years back my former Mistress and i went to a demo at the monthy discussion group before the monthly munch. i wasn't as terrified of the cane afterwards, in fact i took it off my hard limit list immediately, She was going to purchase a cane in the future but was looking for an ideal one and well W/we never got around to it. i do hope to someday experience this, i have had sensual play with a flogger and hard play so as long as i was brought up to my tolerance on a slow basis i think i may enjoy this on the ass, not sure of across the thighs though,, that looks like it could sting,.

* The historical "Victorian Terror Weapon" with counted strokes is the sadistic end.
* Senuous caning is another whole universe.
(Run a web search on the name "Conrad Hodson" for an excellent article about how to select a cane, use a cane, warm up a sub with a cane, etc.)

I prefer the latter. Any technique that draws blood is more extreme than I use. That doesn't stop me from having a sjambok as the heavy end of my own cane collection!

But I do agree with those who recommend rattan. www.bossbondage.com has canes both rattan and Lexan.
I can also recommend the eBay store called "A Gentleman's Retreat" as a supplier of hippo-hide sjamboks in various length. Good prices, ecologically sound source (only culled hippos, no poaching), and inexpensive shipping.

Status: offline 		I purchased my sjambok from that store also, I was very impressed on first use. Very whippetty, yet intense full on impact, nice heavy stroke

It leaves some wonderful long stripes too, without wrapping, which I never do.
