ORIGINAL: moonvine 5. Requires "teaching to the test" rather than age appropriate knowledge, which is my biggest problem with it. There will always be crappy school districts and/or individual schools that don't do what they should. All I was saying is, don't blame the Act on the inability of adults to read. Even if every single child could "pass the test", they would still be able to read. I live in a fabulous school district, great teachers and principals, zero tolerance for bullying, expanded after school sports, expanded music program, very little violence... and the next town over for which we are pretty much a suburb has one of the worst school districts in the state, and the administration put it there. NCLB has had little to no impact on our school district. Oh yes, and my 8th grader reads higher than college level, carries a 4.0 gpa taking advanced math, advanced science, honors orchestra, and playing afterschool sports. Cali
