To Online and Other Dommes, do you think its a breach of discipline if a servant capitalises his name, do you insist on your servant writing his name in small letters and addressing You in large letters or is it a load of rubbish

I think the whole concept of lower case and upper case letters is juvenile and internet fantasy based. Granted, that is just my feeling on the matter. I don't really care what others do. I would always prefer a sentence written the way the teachers taught it in grade school. (even if I don't always manage to follow all the proper rules myself)

In my world, it would be a load of rubbish.. in other worlds, .. hey, whatever floats someone's boat and if they can bring other people into their world, it's all good for the parties involved.

The only question that really matters is, did you agree to do it? It doesn't matter how stupid it is (and yes, this one is quite a load of rubbish) but if you - or any submissive - agreed to follow that dom's rules to do the CraZy CApS thing, then yes, it's a disciplinary issue when you break that rule.

Frankly, I do not care, but, I know that others do. It just depends upon the Dominant.

That's more of a chatroom thing isn't it.

The real question is: how fucked are you if you're a submissive and the capslock gets stuck. You have to go out and buy a new keyboard.

I agree with LaTigresse. I find it quite annoying when a submissive uses "i" and "You", etc.

Completely depends on the Dominant and their preferences and dynamic. Personally old boy, I detest the W/we U/us style it just  gets to be a right royal pain in the anal sphincter.

Ever done this, apply for something with your name in smaller case? Only to have return to you with your name in capital case.
If someone here knows anything about business, to use upper case letters is the common practice of incorporating someone's name. There is a legality to it and I am quite sure there is someone here that has studied law.
My point is, if the D or M wants their sub/slave to use upper case and incorporate their name. To use upper case in someone's name is to make them accountable for their actions, which is why, corporations and government use upper case.
If a D or M, insists that a sub/slave only uses lower case, then the D or M is lessening the sub/slave accountability.
This is to my understanding in the use of upper and lower case specifics with in a name.

Corporations and government use upper case because it is proper English.  When someone is entering your information into a database, they aren't paying attention to your incorrect use of capitalization, they are doing it the way it is supposed to be done.

MY slave knows he is expected to use proper english and capitalization... or he can type like me and be lazy and use none. What others expect of him doesnt really matter since he is answerable only to me.

I have had some in the past, mainly long distance or online, who were required to use the capitalizations to reinforce their positions and mine early in their training and before we were face to face. For them, yes, repeated incorrect capitalization was a disciplinary matter if it were obviously on purpose and not just sloppy typing.

However, in general and from just your everyday sub I talk to... i expect nothing.

I think the whole capitalisation fetish is a load of rubbish; and whether one should be offended by the lower orders ommitting to ommit the capital letter from their names depends on how uptight and anal one is.

Like anything else, it depends on the people involved.

Personally I couldn't care less about typing on any given day, but if I was annoyed and gave an instruction for every 5th letter to be capital then I expect every 5th letter to be capital.

In my case it has less to do with any sort of formal respect, and just becuase I like to be annoying to my subs.

To each their own, if it is important to you and he doesn't do it then punish him, if it isn't then don't.  That's the beauty of being in charge....

Capitals were invented to make a difference between D and s in the online world...mostly for chatrooms. Similar to wearing tags when you were owned. It is handy to recoqnize people.
Some chatrooms (even on CM) have that still.
It is up to you and the yours if you use it...or not.
For me respect is not in the D or d.

I've said it a million times, I HATE made up BDSM online "protocol." The slashes, the un-needed upper and lower casing, the third person speak; all of it! It makes me cringe when I see a sub or slave lower casing their name. Hell, I have been known to reply back to such people (when they e-mail me) and purposely reply with their name with the proper capitalization, even once said "Proper names have the first letter captilaized." It just irritates me.

I personally believe this is an overrated concept - ultimately, subs and Doms are equal.
Oops, why have I capitalised "Doms"?...
