Status: offline 		Hi to all. Will try to be brief. Can a novice sub take a caning? my possible future owner has this listed as a favorite. Would sure like to impress her, but........

Status: offline 		I have had total newbies take an awful lot right out of the gate--it has a lot to do with how you process pain, and of course how good your top is.   I am going to go out on a limb here and say that a good top is not going to push a newbie past his or her limits in an intial scene---that's the best way to scare someone off for good.

Caning is a very unique sensation, and while I enjoy it from both sides, there are those that never like it at all.  Don't be afraid to try it, but do be honest about what your experience level is.

Status: offline 		My Sir really likes canes - he says they give maximum pain for minimum effort . Being a brand-newby when i met my Sir, i received a "from the frying pan into the fire" introduction - but my Sir never gave me more than i could handle - and now canes - thick ones - are my favourite play toy. 
Something about the thick canes take me to subspace, and only thick canes.  Therefore - go with it     - and don't worry about impressing your Dom/me - they aren't looking to be impressed - they are looking to have fun, and maybe make a connection.

Status: offline 		Thick canes would seem less,um whippy. i dont know at this point if she has multiple. i will ask, i guess. So maybe i'll ask for the thicker? Exactly the help i was hoping for. She didn't ask for this, just said it's her fav........

Status: offline 		Easy, no. Hence the dilema. Know short cats, doubled -up belts. Nothing at all of what i've heard/read of a cane.

Yes. But I feel canes are to be treated with respect on both sides. The key to accepting a caning successfully is your inner discipline and how you internally process the pain.

I'm just more than a little sceptical about the 'full force caning' comment, to be honest. Why? I just feel that it isn't the force used to wield the cane which delivers the pain, but the speed of the cane and how quickly it completes it's 'arc'. Canes are unlike other implements, in that they give a greater degree of control to the person delivering the caning. A stroke delivered with the full force of the arm may not be as painful as a skilful movement from one held by a supple wrist.

Canes create thumping or stinging pain, usually.  The intensity varies from not at all painful or harmful to serious (life-threatening) injuries.  -Basically, as with ANYTHING solid you can hit someone with the intensity and safety varies greatly.

"Can a novice sub take a caning?"  Yes, absolutely, unless they've some previously-held fear of canes. 

Whether or not a bottom can take a particular caning from a particular top on a particular day with a particular cane.... see where I'm going?... could be any answer.

Even if your were an old hand at being caned, it wouldn't mean anything for how well you may or may not be able to take *her* caning.  Again, same as with any play, really.

Just do what you should do whether it's time 1 or 1,000:  have clear communication and listen to your body.

I have both given and recieved a caning when I was a novice. (did not like getting it) but the novice I gave the caning to took it quite well. I started slow and gradualy built up the intensity. The caning its self lasted about 15 minutes but was extremely enjoyable for both of us. He was not a big fan of pain but I find as long as the intensity is built up, so is the toleance level.

A good hard whack is not a good start. Light tapping and flicking might be better to start.

But if your new to her... Start out with something a little lighter. spanking or paddling, particuarly since your new to her.
