slaveluci -> Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 4:13:12 PM)

According to Terry Condon of NYC's "Gallagher's Steakhouse," here are the top 5 recommended hangover cures:

*homemade chicken soup
*mint tea
*fruit (he specifically mentioned bananas)
*exercise
*a Bloody Mary (with or without vodka)

Don't know about you but none of these sound too good to me, especially the exercise.  I can see projectile vomiting while doing jumping jacks[:'(].

What are some that work for you?

#1  don't drink too much
#2  drink lots of water before going to sleep
#3  my personal favorite: don't drink alcohol at all

It's been said that fresh menudo helps.

Yep, #1 and #3 are the most logical indeed.  We plan to have a couple drinks to ring in the New Year and that's it.  To quote Hank Williams, Jr. : "Hangovers hurt more than they used to"[&o]...................luci

I've never had a hangover and yes I do drink. I just found out not that long ago that my two fisted drinking pays off. Water in one hand, alchoholic beverage in the other. And know when to stop.....before it revolts and comes back up.

I would never have thought that water would help.  Thanks for the tip[:)].............luci

i have found that dill pickle juice works wonders for me, not sure why, but it does.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 4:50:11 PM)

Water water water.  But before you go to bed. it helps keep you hydrated which is why you get hung over in the first place.  if you drink it when you get up, it usually gives you the spins. (at least it does me)   My uncle always swore by "tomato juice noodles"  elbow maccaroni or shells, cooked, drained, and V8 juice poured over them.  Add in a little margerine, and salt and pepper.  It's yummy any time, but it's REALLY good when you're hungover.  Must be the tomato juice. like the bloody marys

Lynnxz -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 4:50:52 PM)

Bloody Mary's and either Taco Bell, or Wafflehouse. Apparently horrible greasy food will get rid of hangovers fairly quickly

marie2 -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 4:51:03 PM)

Coffee, tylenol, and something carby to eat, like a bagel.  It's not a cure, but it helps take the edge off.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 4:54:11 PM)

carbs "soak up" the alcohol so you can digest it better.  Helps get it out of your system faster.  I have heard that greasey food helps too lynnxz

thornhappy -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 4:54:32 PM)

oh yeah, churros and bitter hot chocolate.  french fries and coke.

(i've never been hungover)

My dad was a "beer man" for almost 30 years. He worked for a distributer.  He knows ALL the remedies.  I just learned a lot just from watching Him!!  lmao

I'm most curious as to how you ever figured that one out.  Whatever motivated you to drink pickle juice as a hangover cure?  LOL.  I mean, I love a drink of it now and then but after drinking?  I'd have never thought to try that particular drink[;)]..............luci

Exactly.  That's been my own experience which is why I was surprised when LaT says it works for her.  So the trick is BEFORE drinking not after.  Got it.

Yeah, must be.  But, as with the pickle juice, I'm wondering how he ever figured this particular one out[8D]................luci

*between drinks, drink some water, keep your self from becoming dehydrated by the alcohol intake.
*before going out drinking, I found that a couple of peanut butter and honey sandwiches do the trick, since the honey saturates my system with sugar and peanut butter does a good job of being a binder for that nasty whiskey after effect, bread makes for a good sponge.

if you already have hangover,
*rest, avoid bright light and greasy food
*honey water (not too sweet or you will just make your self sick)

khalya -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 5:37:44 PM)

I always drink lots of water, and avoid drinks that are high in sugar.

Aszhrae -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 6:46:22 PM)

mead is just nasty, the morning after your stomach feels like its full of lead
I love mead but its best avoided because of how my stomach feels the next day (they have lots of mead available at SCA events)

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 10:41:47 PM)

Water and Gatorade to replace fluids and electrolytes.  Rehydrating your body is the only thing that's really going to work.  Eating carbs or other foods will help you metabolize the alcohol faster but won't prevent or cure a hangover.

MadAxeman -> RE: Best hangover remedies............ (12/31/2008 10:57:18 PM)

I just want to say that Marksfantasygirl, despite her years of experience and good advice posted here, is currently suffering from what she calls 'flu' type symptoms after NYE festivities.
