Burris' appointment has little to do about him, Governor Blagojevich, Senator Reid, or PE Obama. Their focus strictly politics as usual; ALL of them, including the PE. The seat is up in 2 years. Unless the Republican's run Richard Nixon, (maybe then it could be close) this is a Senate seat loss for Democrats. That is their ONLY concern. Simliar to the 'Paris Hilton' persona with a Kenndy name in New York.

Of course it is Illinois. There are enough dead people who vote that could still effect that outcome. Then of course there is the 'race card'. Is it just my perspective, or when someone says; "I'm NOT playing the 'race card'!"; isn't that in reality PLAYING the 'race card'?

Burris is a life long insider, currently a registered lobbyist. He'll maintain the 'status quo' for the next two years. He's always wanted to be Governor, but couldn't get his party's support. Governor Blagojevich is having fun with the time he has until he's imprisoned. It's Illinois, perhaps his endorsement of Burris will help.

Meanwhile, this is just the first of many of these situations to come. Unfortunately PE Obama's coalition of left wing special interests have never had this much power and payback due them. They don't know how to use that power in the traditional 'back room'. More than likely, they'll be very vocal and disclosing if things don't go their way. It's one thing to promise a favor and get a piece of property in Chicago as a pay back as an Illinois Senator, State or Federal. That's "business as usual" and nobody seems to mind. It's another thing when these paybacks get disclosed and your President. Stay tuned...

CL, what do you expect, Harry Reid's an Asshole!

He's far too inept to merit the term "asshole", frankly.  "Asswipe" is a far better description, given the ineptitude of his tenure as Majority Leader.

As for my expectation, my first expectation would be that Reid, et al, actually pause long enough to familiarize themselves with the full extent of applicable law--the saddest irony of all in the Blagojevich scandal is the bevy of legislators lacking even a passing familiarity with applicable statutes.

My second expectation, an evolution of the first, is that any effort to impeach and remove Blagojevich (or any politician) proceed from a rigorous examination of the particulars of the law, rather than bowing to shifting political winds.

Blagojevich's appointment of Burris, in addition to being a shrewd legal gambit, may also prove to be the most apolitical move in this entire drama.

Good research on this CL. But it isn't my issue. We can only be passionate, informed and involved in a limited amount of issues and this isn't one of mine.

I wanted to comment though on H. Reid. Not my issue either really, but I do recall during the 06 off year elections he, et alia, making the promise not to impeach GWB if either elected, or re-elected.

Lets avoid debating whether GWB needed to be impeached or not, and also whether there was ample evidence to support a conviction of such.

What rang out for me was the idea that Reid and others fully expected to be "hired" to do a job when one of their loudest comments in support of their qualifications to do the job was that they weren't going to do that job.

And people voted for them.

Another example, in a seemingly endless stream, of the utter lack of accountability in our society.

If Dear Leader can't bullshit, why the hell is he in politics?

A President SHOULD play poker.  A President SHOULD gamble.  If he hasn't got the balls to do either he doesn't have the balls to sit in the Oval Office.

Oh well....America wanted a gutless spineless coward in the Oval Office, and that's exactly what it got starting twelve days from today.

That's why I don't think there is a snow balls chance in hell for Burris.

I'm told Harry Reid's recipe for humble pie is quite amazing

To be honest, I did not expect a turnaround this quick myself. If I had prognosticated to the final outcome, I would have figured Burris to wage a lengthy court fight that would keep the matter up in the air for months to come.

The thought of this being in the news well past his 100-day honeymoon is probably why Dear Leader blinked.

Thats your opinion. But you make no sense. Either way you will criticize. So if he plays your way he'll be a liar and a bullshitter and if he doesnt you'll call him a coward.

I expect him to be a bullshitter. That's what politicians are. If he's an effective bullshitter then he's doing his job.

Effective Bullshitter == bullshits appropriately to advance things I like.

If he hasn't the guts to be one, he has no business being in public office. Which has been patently obvious about His Gutlessness since day one.

When a third-stringer like Burris hands Dear Leader a slice of humble pie and says "eat!", it's pretty sad that Dear Leader has to jump and say "Yes Sir!"

Thats your tainted view.

Its a good thing that your opinion about what people have any business being in office and who doesnt, isnt the law of the land. He will be our leader and has shown leadership. Most others that voted for office are giving him respect of the office and a chance before they bad mouth him.

Perhaps as you said before the govenor knows the law and our Leader being a lawyer sees it as being legal also. I dont have a problem with Burris being a senator either.

Dear Leader, being a Constitutional lawyer, was originally so ignorant of what both the Constitution (including the 17th Amendment) and Powell v McCormack had to say on the topic that he was staunchly opposed to Burris. When Reid put out his blatantly illegal refusal to seat Burris, Dear Leader, brilliant Constitutional scholar that he is, backed him to the hilt.

Burris got his JD from Howard University, Dear Leader got his from Harvard. Guess we know which law school does a better job teaching its students.

What is your point?
To disrespect everyone who doesnt do things according to what you deem "the way"? Wheres your law degree from? You do seem to be quite the little expert on everything.
