In my quest (seriously if this was an RPG, I'd expect mucho xp points) to meet new people, I've ended up adding 'kinky' to my ad titles and have found that that has other than bdsm connotations in the so called 'real world'. I"m curious if other people have had this experience. For myself, I define kinky as being bondage/discipline, Domination/submission and sadism/masochism overall and a general openness to the leather world. But in many cases, people are understanding kinky to mean things like swinging, polyamory or other open type relationships; one night stands and casual sex and/or even sexual adventurousness like threesomes and orgies.

Insane is anybody who lives into one's world, or who is different than others...
Forgive the above connotation, no connections whatsoever. But, truly, "normal" people have felt the urge to apply labels those who have different sexual views; they started to call them "perverts" and ended by name them "kinksters". However, why bother? Live and let others live as well.
"Kinky" is whoever believes that sex can be conceived (and perceived for that matter) otherwise than as a mean of procreation - definition that applies largely to 98% (or thereabouts) to living humans (potentially the other 2% live in caves and really don't give a damn). If so, give a warm welcome to the wonderful world of hypocrisy...

"Its only kinky the first time...."

But really...'kinky' to me just means 'not what you'd write home to Mom about'. Its painting with a very broad brush and is applies to any one of a thousand things.

I've never really thought about it, but it is an interesting question. We all live in our own heads, so we kind of just assume that people think along the lines that we do in some form or fashion.

I would imagine that if the avg person describes 'kinky' things to me, they'd fall at about 1-3 on a scale ten in my mind, whereas if I'd describe what's in the 8-10 range that I still consider kink, they would describe most of it as 'sick,' their head would explode and they'd never speak to me again.

For me kinky is fetish, sadism/masochism, power exchange and bondage.  I think there are levels to kinkiness.   There's that nice soft side that one reads about in Playboy...light spanking and some bondage tips, etc.  I think this kind of kinky is fairly widespread and shows up often in vanilla relationships.  You're not gonna find advice on drinking piss in Playboy.  There's much more intense levels...like cutting and breath play.  For me...all levels have their time and place.  I've enjoyed laughing and fun bondage just as much as I have a hand around my throat controlling my breathing.

Here is a list of 8 clinical & 106 paraphilias (click for list), pick your flavor.  These include many of the things you describe.  The definition of kinky is, “marked by unconventional sexual preferences or behavior, as fetishism, sadomasochism, or the like”.  Sexual fetishism is associated with paraphilias.

I consider anything i do to be the norm, conventional so for me kinky would have to be the activities i don't participate in. I really do not see myself as kinky, just normal.

Does that mean something kinky for you would involve displeasure or fear in doing something radical from your perspective?  If this fear and/or displeasure involves tears and streaking mascara down your cheeks, I would like to participate!

"Kinky" is what ever you think (or what you assume others will think) is not normal sexually.

My own parameter of kinky would be, if I am utterly confounded, stupefied or shocked then that to me is "kinky"..If I yawn, or accept without a brow raised, then it is "normal" (so to speak)....Tempting

I think what is kinky depends on the persons perspective and not what others consider kinky.I do not think swinging, polyamory, open relationships and promiscuity are kinky but all to common so would not fit my parameters.

I think of the word 'Kinky' as something used for beyond the average sex play. I wouldn't explain to my vanilla friends about what I'm into because I understand it would be too kinky for them. Could I do normal sex? No. Does that make me kinky? probably
