DavanKael -> RE: Define kinky (1/6/2009 9:59:15 AM)

Haven't read all of the replies here. Kinky used to mean bdsm stuff but has somehow broadened. Something similar has happened with the phrase 'the Lifestyle'; it used to reference the swing lifestyle but now every alt lifestyle seems to be dubbed 'The' Lifestyle. The advent of the internet has brought on some odd liberties with terminology (Best for me not to even get started on the term <psychological diagnosis> of fetish; that's been completely popularized and inaccurately used). I dislike the fluidity of word definitions. Yes, terms are just a starting point of a greater conversation but if there is too much fluidity, the phenomenon obfuscates rather than illuminates the opportunity for communication. As far as a personal perception of kinky as related to me or others goes, I don't really have one. I will sometimes use the old-style definition when self-describing: ie: I am kinky because I am interested in aspects of bdsm. Davan
